  • These are just my opinions, if you have different opinions that is great. Please remember to keep conversation and comments civil.
TL:DR Forbidden West Thoughts: I did not enjoy The Forbidden West, it felt like fan fiction, it was broken, it did many characters dirty from the previous one. Horizon merged with Marvel cheese/logic and Ubisoft worldbloat/dialogueaboutothing that is The Forbidden West compared to Zero Dawn.
TL:DR Future Plans: New PC, renewed motivation to make content for Zero Dawn and Sea of Thieves with a CP:2077 playthrough as sooooon as I am done building setting up and downloading wooooooo.

bro, I started watching you yesterday and could you please make the last video about how to deal such a big damage please? I'm playing for about 100 hours and i still don't know how to do it. I saw that you are soo amazing and you also have strats how to kill maschines. And can you tell me something about the game difficulty, what does it change with dealing a damage? Thanks in advence!

I am like, 40 literal man hours of work away from finishing that one... It's got a lot to it.
But the simplified explanation. Handling is actually your best friend, stacking multipliers is good, like Freeze multiplier, weakpoint multiplier and triple knocking arrow multiplier. The key, is to hit the right spot on the various machines. Which, if you have seen my videos, you have seen me do.

The fact that for two and a half games, Aloy has been so focused on solving whatever world ending threat looms over humanity that she didn't have time to learn how to properly socialize/really get to know her companions - let alone start a relationship with any one of them - is why the love connection with Seyka in the Burning Shores DLC feels so forced/unnecessary.

Haven’t played Burning Shores, probably won’t. I’m just glad Aloy shipping went way down post Burning Shores.

@@Psykko_ I have it (it came as a bundle with Forbidden West); but I won't be playing it myself. The plot for it sounds like an unimaginative rehash of Forbidden West's third act/final boss battle. Throwing in a love interest for Aloy (via Seyka - who is stunning when compared to any other female in the any of the games) just reminds me of so many shameless self insert fanfics I read back in my younger days, which just makes me want to play it even less.

A lot of fair takes. NG+ mitigates some of these criticisms, like restrictive exploration & weapons, but that obviously doesn't fix any of the plot/writing. I'm enjoying the game more now in NG+ than I ever did on my initial HFW playthrough, but maybe part of that is that I'm skipping all the cutscenes!

I’m possibly going to give this game a shot again once it’s released on PC. But I seriously doubt I will enjoy this game and really don’t want to waste the time or effort on it.

Oh man coming back to your channel to see what's up and wow didn't know you disliked HFW so much now. I think you loved Zero Dawn so much so that no proper sequel can ever match the experience you had. I agree the combat is vastly different in FW and could be frustrating at first. It really takes time and patience to develop a new playstyle that's totally different from ZD. I spent 160 hours to 100% ZD and now I'm 300 hours into FW and still finding new way to fight. I just love both game's fight mechanics equally. Something I wanted to point out about certain characters. Aloy was in shock when she first met Beta and never really truly recovered from that shock until she bonded with Beta before Gemini. I agree she could come off as bossy and hard to take (as per Varl) at times but it's implied by multiples characters in game that seeing a clone(twin) of yourself would be borderline traumatizing. Kotallo even told her a story that the twins he knew only met when they're all grown up almost killed each other in single combat. And Erend is not just a drunk because he lost his sister. He's insecure and thinks of himself as a failure all the times. He likes to talk down to himself every chance he gets since Zero Dawn. If you do the Sons of Prometheus quest he's gradually gaining some confidence and Aloy also encouraged him along the way. All that being said, I truly value your tutorials (which helped me a lot when I first started ZD) and opinions. It's okay if you didn't find FW enjoyable. Hope you find some other games you like and make more new contents soon!

Due to recent news everything bad about the story is probably because of sweet baby inc's involvement

I doubt that, HZD had “woke” themes and representation already, which I enjoyed.
My issues with HFW don’t stem from ideological disagreements. My issues stem from GG/Sony creating a sequel to HZD that feels more like fan fiction than a professionally made sequel.

I feel like you fell victim to your own anticipation a little bit. Most people see a sequel of a game they like and expect it to improve on its weaknesses while keeping the strengths. Im not saying this should not be what devs should aim for but it tends to go very slowly and with a lot of setbacks. You pointed a lot of these out in your video like the poor implementation of the tools and certain characters ( I agree a lot on the Erend part and less on the Beta part). Maybe the DLC will make things a bit better - we will see... I personally really enjoy the game but that is just some random persons opinion. Also I actually waited until August to play it, just to make sure there will be some patches, so the first playthrough doesnt suffer from easily from fixable issues. The more important thing I wanted to say is, that you shouldnt feel bad for changing your mind. TH-cam these days seems to be way too much about the grind with content rather than about people making videos about stuff they like. All the community can ask for is for you to tell them why you change your plans with them and thats exactly what you did. Most content creators who talk about this, seem like they could use comments to remind them to only do what they enjoy. So best wishes to you - I hope you are doing well in general.

I appreciate your kind words and do agree that I fell a bit victim to my anticipation among some other behind the scenes issues I was having.
I admittedly misread Guerrilla to be an outlier rather than the status quo in terms of game development because of how impactful Horizon: Zero Dawn was to my personal life and growth as a person and due to how positive and deep I saw the overall messages of the game. I don’t feel the majority of the player base truly understood Zero Dawns warnings and messages and I believe this was part of the reason Guerrilla made Forbidden West much more generic.
A large contributor to my negative taste of Forbidden West was due to fallouts I had within the Horizon community.
I was banned from the Horizon Discord for pissing off the abusive admin “2th” who also controls the Subreddit. I was an active entity within the Discord and subreddit until this point in time. I wrote many breakdowns and high upvoted posts on the Horizon Subreddit as “Wildk4rd” and was one of the most vocal entities that disliked how negative “fuck Ted faro” cult mentality was to the community. My inability to interact and mechanically teach the community in a meaningful way following my Discord ban took an emotional toll on me for sure.
Shortly thereafter, I was demoted from being a mod from a Horizon Speedrunner named “Elkjaer” for telling one of his subs to stop being so toxic and killing the vibe in chat. Elkjaer was a bit of a control freak and didn’t like me acting without consulting him. The other active mod agreed with me, didn’t want me to demoted, but I questioned Elkjaers power and thus was demoted regardless. As I grew in confidence and as a person many “leaders” in the community started to dislike me.
I don’t think these community issues were the entire reason I didn’t like Forbidden West. But, they certainly made the heartbreak of disliking the game more impactful as Horizon was a major part of my life for many years. I objectively disagreed with Guerrillas decisions regarding dev team shuffles and making Forbidden West more like an Ubisoft open world. But capitalism is a thing and if you can appease the masses, you can make more money.
I once again want to thank you for your empathetic post and kind words. They mean a lot to me, take care.

@@Psykko_I know my comment is super late, but you're not alone in saying 2th is an a*shole. A friend of mine got demoted on the discord cause he called 2th out for being a hypocrite. The horizon community can be quite toxic (especially after the dlc came out with it's ----spoiler! queer romance plot), but know that there still are a lot of nice and quiet players out there, like me lol
Anyway, I can wholeheartedly understand why it tainted your experience of hfw, but maybe you find your way back to the horizon world again sometime.
      Cheers!

@@AgainstAllOdds101 regarding the 2th issue, it will take many people formally complaining and showing evidence of his abuse to get the Horizon community a discord/subReddit run by someone who inherently cares about people and not their own power/prestige.
I’m probably done with Horizon in general at this point. I was disappointed with HFW to a great degree and just don’t see myself going back. I will likely play HFW on PC, but many of my issues with the game are story/pace/gameplay related.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion of course but i just don't feel your points resonating with me. In fact it's just the opposite for me FW is FW not a reference fest of ZD. Hope you start to see it in a different light down the road though, maybe when the dlc hits or something.

    • @Psykko_

Saying I'm entitled to my own opinion, followed by "hopefully I change my mind and agree with your opinion" is a fairly contradictory statement.
I didn't enjoy Horizon Forbidden West, if you did that's awesome for you. I hope you continue to enjoy the game. My opinion of HFW won't be swayed no matter how many times these types of posts pop up and get deleted on my channel.
I have been spending my free time with my Girlfriend, my dog and other video games.
I will eventually finish my HZD tutorials I have planned but I'm never touching HFW again.

If it breaks your heart, push through! Finish the game and make some more quality content for your audience. Maybe you might enjoy the game more if you just let go of Zero Dawn and any unmet expectations for Forbidden West and just accept it for what it is...
I mostly agree with your criticisms by the way (hit box inconsistencies and shieldwing should be a combat shield, too grindy etc.), but I disagree that those negatives are enough to make Forbidden West a bad game. It's not perfect, but neither was Zero Dawn! That game was a glitch fest for MONTHS after launch and the story is just as far fetched as what we see here in FW. Both stories are as unrealistic as each other and needed reigning in.
But that's what happens when you start with an idea (bow and arrow vs. robot dinosaurs) and work backwards from that concept to make it somehow make sense - it doesn't!

I already forced myself to play the majority of H:FW. I have no plan, intention or interest to play H:FW again. I am certainly not investing the time and effort required for theorycrafting and mechanical testing for a game I don't enjoy.
