I support the thin blue line, but some supervisor heads need to roll for this. Whatever the pursuit policy, many lives were unnecessarily put at risk. At the very least, when the guy tried to steal the black pick up, and took something from the vehicle (yes, a gun), it should have been over. What would the Arkansas troopers have done.....no doubt this guy would have been stopped very early (if he was lucky). When officers are afraid to lose their jobs stopping a lunatic, we are all in trouble. God help us.

That man, Hunter Berry, 22, is now in the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
Law enforcement officials said Berry is behind bars following a chase spanning several cities. News 9 looked at his record, and it shows this is not his first run in with officers.

Another example of bad pursuit policies at work. Some agencies have a "no pursuit"policy. .Others have ridiculous policies like, the officer "will not use their agency assigned vehicle as a blocking device.;" our agency had that exact policy. Often the officers actions are governed by a supervisor that's not even on scene. I've personally heard supervisors terminate pursuits like this chase, prior to the gun shots, with the hope of catching the person later. We were even told not to join ongoing pursuits that came through our county. Law enforcement officers are being criminally charged for their actions during a pursuit. Our agency made it clear that if violated General Orders during a pursuit, and civil or criminal complaints were filed, you were on your own. The agency would not support you with legal representation.
But they AREN'T.
My God, what's it going to take for our law enforcers to be able to ENFORCE THE LAW?!?

Btw, Oklahoma City PD are not allowed to do TVI or PIT maneuvering. Only county or troopers can do that. But in order to do the maneuver it’s got to be executed in a safe manner..no traffic or bridges or in towns, unless special permission comes from the supervisor on duty.

When they realized he was outside, they could cut him off with other vehicles, creating a wall. they could cross the road with their vehicles or by requesting a truck via CB. they could put obstacles in the way. They could throw a paint balloon or a magnetic curtain onto the windshield or use a candlestick when out in the woods. they could have passed the car immediately when the guest got out!

All these Oklahoma Police departments need to get some training from Arkansas State Police because they all look like fools in this video. They all carry "less than lethal" weapons and had a perfect opportunity to use them, but just let the guy get back in the vehicle and drive on.

These departments need to get some pursuit policies or make up their minds to chase or not, kinda dumb to run up on the person with your lights on and then when they run just turn them off and don't chase, especially multiple times you know the person is going to run why waste your time if your going to be told to shut it down lol.
