This is the most helpful thing I've seen all day! As a new startup with only a few hard earned clients so far, it's amazing to see how you do it. I really feel for the extra 15% for effort and/or communication. I usually pick that up during the quick consultation, which permits me to charge for this without them realising it! It frustrates me when I get my time wasted waiting.
I like your analysis of web costing, the drop downs are a great idea when working out how much client input you have to do for them, difficult to calculate especially for new clients. Would work well for additional work, thanks 👍
Great to see this topic covered, good work. I'm presuming that you are not including the hosting setup? I think I can remember you saying in a podcast with Paul C that you prefer to leave that to the client to organise. Is that still your position on providing hosting to the client?
That would get added as one-off, including Email set up, Domain Transfer or Site Migration. I give the option for the client to do it themselves for Free, or they can pay me to do it for them, thus you give them the option rather than forcing it upon them as they may see it as an unnecessary cost. We've all been guilty of spending hours on these 'small' tasks without getting paid for it. Think of it like this; we often have to pay a 'Connection' Fee when we have new Broadband connected and all they do is 'activate' or switch the plug 'on'.
This is awesome! I love the the asshole tax (communication) add-on. One question - do you include image editing as part of additional effort? My experience is the client almost never sends sized images, if fact I've been lucky to get high res to work with. My point is, editing images is time consuming so I'm thinking it might be better to add it as it's own line item rather than a hike to the base price. Thanks!
If all I need to do is convert to WebP, then no cost. But if I need to resize, crop, alter, then I would charge £30 per image. Sounds like a lot but it's the norm for Graphical Designers to charge similar rates just for resizing images.
Increíble! Thanks for sharing. This can be a valuable asset for creating initial estimates. What I’d love to see is adding a line item for home page revisions!
That's where the Effort % kicks in :) So you may want to up it from 15% to 25% and then increase by a further 10% each time based on the number of Revisions. So a Home Page that requires effort = 15%. And if you know there will be 2 x Revisions over the standard 1 revision - then increase the 15% for Effort to 35%.
Hi Imran, I am just staring on my web design journey. This is going to be a helpful aid for me to calculate a pricing structure. Thank you. I have read that the average website has a life expectancy of 2 years and 7 months. Would you agree with that assessment and how do you approach the pricing of sites that need redesigning, for new clients and existing clients?
I would say that the life expectancy can be much shorter or longer depending on the content and the growth of the business. When redesigning, I would charge whatever my rates are as of now. So i may have built a 5 page site for £500 3 years ago, but now I would charge £920 for just the home page redesign, and at least £380 for every other page. Though the content matters and I may charge £2000 for just the home page. Think of it like this. You had a haircut 2 years ago and it cost £10. You go back 2 years later for the same haircut by the same hairdresser, and they charge £15 because their costs have changed, regardless if you are new or an existing client.
Hello Imran, Thank you for the pricing calculator. I have a question about WooCommerce. How much do you charge if you have to create product categories as well as product attributes for a client? Is it in the 1000 base price or additional cost?
@@websquadron a macbook pro and chrome browser. I tried again today and it is working now. Weird... yesterday it was like the cells were to small for what was in it. ah well , thanks it is working!
Irman, I have said it before, but I said it again. This channel is pure gold. 👍
Thanks again!
Seems like a very approachable and genuine person. Spoke with him about a small issue and he gave great advice.
Comments were off on ur community post so writing it here. Damn imran, your son is amazing when it comes to teaching, just like you ❤.
Cheers. Yup, YT removed commenting due to his age, although I had enabled it. Thanks, I'll let him know.

Hello Imran,

I would class it as a separate page if it is very bespoke, or just as a 50% of the cost of doing the Shop Page.
I don’t see the link for the calculator…
It’s in the video description
