This was the moment when DA: O become one of the best written game I ever played. So many games have you playing against some evil or another, RPGs especially where you're the 'good guy' looking to save as many as possible, but so many force you to face the ultimate foe, But DA: O allowing you to not only spare the villain but making him a full companion? As Bobby B would put: "Gods the writing was strong!"
If you read the first Dragon Age book (can't recall the name right now unfortunately) it's even more so. Also, consider that the writer of the book is the same as the lead writer for the game, so it's not like the book is an adaptation of what was in the game, it was like that from the beginning in the writer's mind
He's always been my favorite DA companion, and it makes me so angry that so many players refuse to even give him a chance. I actually see sparing him as the morally good choice since in the end he's not actually evil, his power and paranoia drove him to make villainous decisions. I'm not a full on hater of the new games but you just don't see this kind of writing anymore...
I think it's interesting when you hear Threnn talking about Loghain making the smart choice it sounds a little convincing... unless you played human noble in DAO. Then you realize that he was betraying the king before the darkspawn showed up and they were just a convenient tool.
Executor: IT'S ME WARDEN! IT'S ME WARDEN! IT WAS ME ALL ALONG WARDEN!!! You all bought it! You all bought it, hook, line, and sinker! YOU ALL BOUGHT IT!
Not even the Elven Gods became more inconic than him. Solas was a good contender to be one of the best antagonists, but then he was sidelined in Veilguard. 🙄
I don't consider him an Antagonist, a smart individual taking a tough choice yes. If he entered the fray, it wouldn't make a difference, they'd all be dead and he knew that.
Antagonist doesn't mean villain, just really an opponent of the protagonist, which Loghain is for a decent portion of the game. But you're right. David Gaider said as much years ago: That Loghain charging wouldn't have done a damned thing.
Yeah, his actions at Ostagar could be up for debate. But everything he did just after, including framing the Grey Wardens for Cailan's death? There is no justification.
The one thing I can thank of the vile game that calls itself "dragon age" is that people have actually gone out to play the original and it's in my top 5 of RPGs. I'm glad Dragon Age is getting its time. Before it was called "Origins" it was literally just called Dragon Age. Ring ring.. ring ring Hello Hi? 2009 is calling, I heard you wanted a great game? Yeah? TAKE IT YOU LAZY BASTARD!!!! Well you didn't need to be so rude Lol yes we do

I always spare him because i think Morrigan's plan is stupid and because his voice actor did a hell of a job.

Absolute bro
And then Vileguard appears and rectons him, that some shadow council manipulated him. lol 2deep
Veilguard? What's that? It doesn't exist.

@@SeventhheavenDK Can't exactly frame himself so yes, using the Grey Wardens as scapegoat is the only logical approach.
