GCam vs Open Camera (Best Camera App?) POCO F3 Test

- What is the best free camera app? GCam or Open Camera. Find out in this Open Camera review! Check out the picture and video comparison (with waveforms!), I go over a range of features and tips for how to use the Open Camera app, look at a very long list of Open Camera settings, test a great Google Camera port, and finish with a three way comparison-GCam vs stock cam vs Open Camera.
The best Android camera app is . . . actually a combination of both of these free apps. Google camera is strong for photos, but it can't match the wide range of features from Open Camera which make it an excellent video app. At least this is what I found on the Xiaomi Poco F3.
Some video Open Camera settings that are an excellent addition are the histogram, focus peaking, manual white balance control, external mic support, bit rate adjustments, and lots of frame rates.
The Xiaomi Poco F3 was used for testing. The Poco F3 camera is surprisingly reliable for a lower midrange device, and with this Poco F3 GCam port from Nikita and XML from Manish:

Thanks for watching! Let me know if you use Open Camera and if you have a different experience with it!
You are right! I discovered the same: GCam for photos, Open camera for videos!
Sorry for the delay because I was very busy at work, but I would like to thank you for the Poco X3 Pro phone. It is a really good phone. I bought it a week ago. I did not believe that the Xiaomi phones are good. Thank you very much for the advice, my dear brother. I wish you success and success in this Blessed year
I'm so glad you like it Houssam! Thank you very much and I hope your year is off to a great start.
@@phonecomp thanks a lot
thank you for the comparison, but can you suggest an app camera that i should use, if i don't have an OIS/EIS feature on my phone?
Hello Masndon! I would still use a Gcam port regardless of what hardware you have. You should still be able to find compatible ports. I've used both of these apps on non ois/eis devices. Just make sure to compare with your regular camera app. It might still be better than an alternative
Great video and some much effort put into this.
Thank you Kiriyama!
Great as always.
Thank you so much Daniel!
Bro I'm in shock how is it possible that your channel has a thousand subscribers, it's so weird, bc that content video and quality is lit. Thank you so much for doing this video, I'm searching about the F3 camera and I have concluded this: I'll buy this phone and install GCam, so, the camera will get better a lot, what do you think about that? Because I'm doubt about camera. Thank you so much again and peace!
Thank you so much Scarecrow! Yes, GCam can improve the cameras on the F3 and subscribers have suggested even more ports recently--so there are tons of options! Plus, I still don't think the stock Poco camera app is terrible all the time--in fact, I often prefer it for video.
Where to download
*I have Oneplus 9 Pro. Which Camera App should I use? Which one is the best for Oneplus 9 Pro (12/256)?*
Hello Ushanikam! I have not tested the 9 Pro unfortunately, but the developers I usually test with are Arnova, BSG, and Nikita. They have pretty reliable ports.
Welcome back😁
Thanks Chennai! My wife and kids were sick and then I got sick, so it's been hard to film and edit, but I'm back on track now.
@@phonecomp oh no bro🙄
Same here last week my total family fever
I hope your family now alright 🤠
And my x3pro bootloader unlocked now I'm testing ROMs
@@phonecomp now in india 1:36AM bro so good night 🌃😅
I hope your family is feeling better too! Glad you got the bootloader unlocked, have you found a favorite rom yet?
Did you try PQ 4.4 xml I suggested with BSG 8.1? It has good skin tones
Not yet Rogue! But it is on my list for sure. I'm only testing with suggested ports so I can make sure I get to them all. And thank you!
@@phonecomp thnx for your videos they r great
Thank you, and thank you for watching another one! I'm thinking about expanding into other apps instead of just camera apps. Are there any other types of apps that you would want to see covered?
Hi, where can i get PQ 4.4 xml ?
Hello . How do I activate XML? When I take 3 pictures next to the shutter button. gives an error
Hello Mahdi! Usually you press near the shutter button and if you have XML's saved in the correct folder on your phone you will be able to load one. Some GCam's also allow you to load XML's (configs) at the bottom of your GCam settings.
which one is better anti-vibration?
Hello Gam! Stabilization is still largely dependent on your device, but I'd say GCam. You might need to use "active" stabilization instead of the default "standard"
can I change my settings n gcam? because I try changing it then I can't open it anymore.:(
Hello tt ni Therese! You certainly can adjust lots of settings in GCam, but (as you are seeing) it might crash the app. I would suggest trying a different GCam port for your phone, it might be more stable. Can I ask what device your using?
@@phonecomp I'm using POCO F3
@@Summerly0621 Ok great! Any of the GCam's I have linked to in my F3 videos will be stable. My new favorite is the port from this video from Nikita, but I also like my previous favorite from BSG. Both have had few issues with crashing and refusing to open. You can also try clearing the apps data from your phones "app info" in the settings.
Bro can u tell me about the 120 fps 4k video feature in open camera is it working on f3. And also about video bitrate meaning i would appreciate that ❤️
Hello Ibrahim! 4k yes, but only up to 30fps on the F3. It would be great to have 4k slow motion from open camera on the F3, but I don't know if that will happen. Bit rate defines the quality of your recording apart from resolution. The higher the bit rate, the more information that can be recorded per frame of video. In terms of editing video, a higher bit rate will allow you to adjust your footage a lot without it looking terrible (more room for color correction and color grading). Unfortunately, a higher bit rate means larger file sizes so just keep that in mind as far as storage space.
Hey! I was decided to buy this phone after watching your all precious review about poko f3 😌. Now im satisfied 🔥
thanks man for your great work
Hello Johirul! I'm so glad you are enjoying the F3, and it's always good to hear that a video helped someone--so thank you very much. I hope the F3 serves you well for years to come!
Plzzzzz help
What's best gcam for videos stabilization ?
Hello Goku! BSG, Nikita, and Tiger are all good ports with working stabilization. Just keep in mind that your device plays a big role in how stable your footage will be. You may need to use the "active" setting instead of "standard." You'll be limited to 1080 instead of 4k
@@phonecomp what configs i should use?
I am using poco f3 with custom rom so i don't have stock miui camera
@@gokuaeelol3318 hmmmm. I'm trying to remember what I was running on the F3. I think it was a Greatness port, but I can't remember what config I used. I suggest checking Telegram, there were a few groups with great F3 GCam files.
My gcam constantly crashes when I go to slow-mo section
Hello Dhann! That is a pretty common problem for a lot of GCam ports from many developers. I'm not sure why! You should be able to find a port that can record slow-mo, but it might take some testing. If you are using a recent GCam 8.x version, maybe try a 7.x port? I'm sorry, I know that's not super helpful.
Which Gcam & xml version is the best for Poco F3? I've tried many versions. most of them have bugs & some features didn't work Which latest version do you have NOW on your phone?
Hello Soroush! I'm still running the same GCam version from this video, but I'm not using the F3 as my primary phone anymore. I basically have given up on finding the perfect GCam and instead just use GCam to fill in holes where the stock camera performs poorly. Sorry, I'm sure that's not the answer you were looking for.
8.1 is the best
U got miui13 update?
I have not, but I can't wait to see if it's a significant improvement! Have you gotten it?
@@phonecomp no bro I don't need miui I'm now testing derpfest and OnePlus 8t port ROM for pubg 90fps
Oh right! The 8t rom sounds interesting.
Good compare but g cam cant voice recorder external mike
Hello Harshal! You're right, I need to add that to my next GCam comparison. Thank you for pointing that out! GCam really lacks in the video features department.
4:50 as far as I know, those "48mp" pics from Poco cam are just upscaled. The sensor uses pixel binning, so it is only capable of processing 12mp pictures (correct me if I'm wrong)
Hello Heisenberg! I'm not sure, I assumed the binning was happening on the software side as the default to give a more broadly appealing look to the main camera and keep file sizes down. If the actual sensor is only outputting a binned image then you'd be right for sure-it would have to be upscaled in software. I think you're probably right, I just can't find any information online to confirm. Can you think of a way I could test that?
imx582 is 48mp from the hardware, not upscaled
@@liiou4445 inform yourself about pixel binning
@@phonecomp oh, just saw your message right now. I can't really think of a way to definitely test that :/ But when using gcam ports and selecting highest resolution, I always get 12mp
@@Heisenberg355 no need, normally a phone pixel bin DOWN from the native resolution by combining pixels together in order to produce a brighter photo. Upscaling such as on some Huawei devices where it has a 50mp sensor but uses a.i processing to achieve a "100mp" mode. In this case, Poco f3's native resolution of 48mp, or 8000*6000 pixels was binned down to 12mp, or 4000*3000 pixels by default for better lighting and smaller file size. For the 48mp mode it is just shooting at its native resolution of 48mp, there is no upscaling since no new pixels are being generated. In conclusion, the 48mp mode actually is achieved by removing the pixel binning process.
Open camera has become full of annoying ads that you can't shut off easily. They have video ads that you can't turn off.
Give me the link
Hello Rabby! Link for the GCam port is in the video description and thank you for watching!
I'm using two gcam ports
Niketa (and the xml I'm using gives me good stabilization in video)
And Bsg 8.1 version
Thanks for letting me know Mahmoud! BSG has been my usual port, but I think I prefer Nikita now. I still have both installed as well. I might need to make a comparison video using both.

For video 4k camera is way better then both its the only app that does 100mp 4k which open maxes at 50
Hello Cmoneytheman! I'll have to give that app a look! Thank you for suggesting. I've mainly been sticking with Filmic Pro and MotionCam recently. As far as pure video quality goes--MotionCam is at the top of my list right now since it lets you shoot in RAW.
@@phonecomp filmic is good to i used that before until I found 4k I never seen motion but if raw is what you say it shoots in I would say that would the best just the sizes is bigger
Open shows that it can go to 250mb but my phone only lets it record at 50max I gotta s9 and even on my old a20 maxes at the same so I'm thinking its a app limitation
@@cmoneytheman That is strange. I would think Open Camera would be able to film at more than 50 Mbps on the S9. The non-pro version of MotionCam is free from the play store, so I would definitely say give it a try and see what you think! 4K might still suit you better depending on the mix of features. I'm just glad there are more third party camera apps that are actually usable, much better than a few years ago.
I have investigated the major developers of GCam mods, and four of them are Russians! Could anybody please tell me about a definitely non-Russian one?
Want gcam for nokia g20
Hello Akash! I've never tested a Nokia device for the channel, but my favorite developers right now are Nikita, BSG, and Arnova. I would start testing some ports from them. You can find plenty them at www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
Nice
Thank you Rere!

Hello Bruno! I haven't had the chance to test out the S20 FE, but I do remember hearing that it had a very capable camera setup. With all of the software improvements Samsung has delivered, I'm sure it's even better now!
