The Poco X6 Pro has a decent stock camera that ships with the device, but what about taking the Google Camera app (GCam) from Google's Pixel phones, and installing it on your X6 Pro? Well, you CAN get better results in many situations! In this Xiaomi Poco X6 Pro camera test you'll find out whether GCam is worth using for selfies, night shots, landscapes, and more.
Please keep in mind that Poco X6 Pro users and Google camera developers have not had much time with this new series of phones for GCam development (at the time of recording), so even after testing out a handful of GCam ports, the BSG port I used for this GCam camera comparison was still pretty buggy.

Any plans to review Fair Phone (open source) ? If so, what I haven't seen many tests of it is how one might use it plus SOME of google apps (such as GoogleMaps + Gmail) and apps like Whatsapp (the latter of which someone online indicated they can only use w/t most recent DUAL SIM Fair Phone). If using a FairPhone on dual sim, can one also have 2 different phone numbers and thus be linked to Google / Whatsapp on one sim, but PRIVATE on another sim? Ugh...

Hello Angel! Yes! Go into settings, advanced, and switch on Raw / JPEG control. Then back in the normal photo interface, you can swipe up and choose pro options at the top of the quick settings menu

It has a lot of features .. now you can shoot log videos with it. its a lot easy on storage and you still get a good quality video.

Thanks Anonadude! The Gcamator app is fine, I prefer just downloading directly for some reason. Yes, GCam can definitely enhance the camera quality in the X6 Pro--especially when some well tuned configs come out.

Thanks FreeThinker! Hmmm. In this price range, I would honestly go with a used flagship. Specifically from Samsung. They have the best native video features and performance. Maybe something from the S22 series. Or even the A54. OnePlus has delivered pretty solid video performance as well for the last few years. Maybe a OnePlus 10? Just not the "T" series from OnePlus.

Hello, no I did not take any RAW shots for comparison. RAW quality is going to be superior for sure, as long as you want to make some serious adjustments in post.

Yes, it's pretty simple. If a certain feature doesn't work, all you have to do is download an extra configuration file or try another GCam port.

Hello Blessilda! I don't have the X6 Pro around for testing anymore, but usually there is a way to turn it off. You can definitely turn it off in GCam. I'm sorry I can't be of more help!

Thanks for video. I have question about resolution and using lenses. Is there some hack or way to force gcam (or other 3d app) to use all lenses and resolutions? I found, that gcam don´t use ultrawide (16mm) and macro cam and the main (64MP / 25mm) cam is limited to 16MP. Also front cam is limited to 4MP instead of 16 MP. I tried another app, and result is the same, even though it found ultrawide lens.
Thanks Zelko! The short answer is yes . . . but unless you can find a good config file for a GCam port tuned for the Poco, it's going to take some fiddling in the GCam advanced settings. Honestly, I've only ever successfully dove in and solved that problem for myself once and that was a while back with the Poco F4.

Thanks Pradeep! I did try 4 other ports and liked the BSG version best. It might not be the best port though, especially as config files are created for other ports. Generally, I only have to test more than 3 or 4 ports if the app is constantly crashing or a majority of the cameras aren't supported. I tested more than 20 for my S24 Ultra video, and still couldn't find a completely functional port.

Thanks Soufiane! Unfortunately, I haven't used any of those phones besides the Poco. I did like the GT Neo 3, and I've heard great things about Realme cameras lately. For camera performance I'd look at the Pixel 8 or 7a. They won't be the best in terms of battery life though. The Galaxy A55 should be launching soon too, it might have better battery performance and generally that series has had better than average cameras for the price. I'm using the OnePlus 12 right now and I really like its cameras too (plus great battery life). Sorry. I know this isn't much help.

Hello! Generally I have better luck with GCam on Snapdragon powered devices, but in the last year I've been able to use more ports with Mediatek powered phones and they are also performing pretty well.

Hello Sayoojk! Generally yes, it's safe--as long as you download from trusted sites. I avoid downloading from shared drives or anything like that. Celsoazevedo and XDA are great places to start that I trust.
The version you show does not work on poco x6 pro. After taking a photo, when you enter the gallery, the photo becomes terribly dark.
Hello Unitra! Hmmm, I'm not sure what could be causing that. Unfortunately I don't have the Poco around for testing anymore, but I would try a different gallery app, and if that doesn't work then a Poco update might have broken this port.

I'm not sure, but I think it's a good port to test first. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I haven't tested the 13 pro plus.

Hello Pommer! It can! It will be dependent on device support though. For instance, the S24 Ultra can, but I'm guessing the Samsung A05 can't.
I use bigkaka 9.2 V4 gcam and i like it. Better shots with low light, and selfies (4 megapixels binned) especially with ultrawide 8 megapixels sensor. But stock camera isn't so bad with primary 64 megapixel sensor, and it is useful for heic saving images

@@malikali-ss2fe Hello Malikali! For the port in the video description, there is not a watermark on by default. For other ports, it is either a setting within the settings menu (possibly advanced settings) or it's in the main photo user interface at the top.

Hello Nomad! Understand, and yes, but you'll have to look for a different GCam port. Or go with McPro24fps, Filmic Pro, MotionCam, or even Open Camera (I think Open Camera allows 25fps filming).

The decision to upgrade in 2024 is tough, older phones are supported longer, and batteries are big enough to last a few years without having to charge every 4 hours. I'm excited to see what the F6 looks like this year too! I'm using the OnePlus 12 right now and I absolutely love it--easy to recommend if you find one on sale.

Hello Paul! I did test the Nothing Phone 2 for about a month, and I liked it a lot, but decided it wasn't really worth making any videos about. At the time I wasn't getting significantly better/consistent performance from GCam.

I use Gcam on my Poco X6 Pro and 60fps video mod is not work(Not even in 1080p). I switch 30 fps to 60 fps but nothing happen. The video looks like in 60 fps mod as in 30fps mod.

poco f5 or Poco X6 Pro??
Hmmm. I think I prefer the X6 Pro. The F5 has better camera performance, but from what I can remember, that's about it. Plus, the in-display fingerprint sensor is a great improvement over side mounted for me. Besides that, the X6 Pro is overall a stronger performing phone.
I tried it the cameras are decent but sometimes it's hard to focus in darker shots I ended up getting the redmi note 13 pro 5g instead

Hmmm. I'm not sure about that. GCam is the usual recommendation for improving camera performance over stock camera apps.

Ha! It's just the Google Camera app that ships with Pixel phones. GCams are adapted versions that can work on other devices.
This gcam app is always looks like scam. Just adding a bit more contrast and saturation and makes pictures a bit darker. Nothing more.
Hello EternalArrow! It really depends on the device. GCam can be transformative for budget phones, for flagships it's often a style choice (but not always).
Minimal difference. I think the X6 Pro default is better. 😆 That redish face that GCAM made was a no-no.
Definitely a no-no. There should certainly be some better GCam ports with configs that are tuned for the X6 Pro by now. That's the problem with testing early, it gives an idea of performance, but I can only make educated guesses about future performance after GCam development and OS updates. But yeah, stock is pretty safe on the X6 Pro.

Hello Lethalhands! I had a lot more trouble with Mediatek and Exynos phones two years ago, but now things seem to be improving. Still, GCam is most likely to run smoothly on Snapdragon powered devices for sure.
