Search adjustable iris aperture in the diameter of your choice, preferably with threads to accept a similar diameter of protective lens cover as the aperture blades are delicate Edit: saw reviews for m30-m37 sizes being used for PVS-14s
Got a camera iris with the same thread from Amazon for $80 for a pair... the price people charge for shit just because it has anything to do with night vision is criminal
@@TeslabotjamesDon’t care about hard stops. I’d pay a bit more for US made but the price of these is still laughable. Tell yourself whatever you have to to cope.
So it basically adds an "f" stop to the Nods. My understanding in a traditional camera with the f stop fully closed it would allow the user to see a person in front of them and the mountain in the background with similar clarity on the two objects. And with the f stop fully open you would still see the person in front of you (more clearly) but the mountain in the background would be blurred.
I think the smaller form factor and dedicated purpose is worth it, but if the lens protector introduces flare or artifacts then that is a problem. Will it accept other sacrificial lenses that have better light transmission?
Why don't they AR coat their lenses instead of UV coating? I'm not using nods during the day and AR coating removes reflective artifacts like the small distracting dot on the right in 3:21.
They do not work on any Theon sensor housings. The objective and ocular lenses on the 31D are proprietary and don’t work with PVS-14 style demist shields or irises.
A question from a newbie to the subject of scopes, for the iris to work as in the video do you have to set the front lens to infinity? or more "further" than infinity?
TBF: I think the Tarsier has its purpose: I got a set of itt 6010's for a crazy deal over the last year, and I got 2 of the rare pvs 18 forward objectives: I can pair the eclipses with the sacrificial lenses below them, and have really stunning FOV, and while the 6010's themselves individiualy weigh the same as a dtnv, My Bino set up has been very good so far with using the matocks: But since I also have the pvs 14 style lenses for the 6010's, This might be another good option
You have the version that needs the whole crown to be replaced. The replaceable lens version is yet to be release to the public. Did you order it from Falconclaw?
@@makhnobuxI mean it's possible. Cameras use similar designed shutters to automatically adjust for different distances so this could absolutely be done with night vision as well
The adjustable Iris is a must have for up close stuff. Helps a lot for admin stuff. I made my own with parts on Amazon that costs about 30 bucks.
Parts list?

The issue is that it makes everything way darker
It also allows you to adjust brightness as well. Not terrible option if your housing doesn't support manual gain
as a camera person I find it kinda funny that this is a new idea to the nightvision world

You focus to infinity, so you max out the focus distance on your nightvision and the you can utilize the iris.
Got the same thing on Amazon got $75
