  • This is a more in depth look at the mount position and the way that I do the Cross Collar Choke. You will find that this submission is working at the highest levels of competition and if you're not using it while training and competing it might be worth revisiting it.
I do this submission a little different than some black belts. Points to look for are the way that I drive the elbow into the chest (not lift with the bicep) and the emphasis on which part of my wrist that I use.

Great video! Very detailed description of different mount positions and solid execution. It's also nice to see sensei's uke wearing a contrasting colored gi. It makes the technique much easier to see.

That is a proper defense for the Cross Collar Choke. That is one of the reasons that we grape vine our legs or really exaggerate our base to the side that you have the hand on the floor. It will take some experience and mat perception in order for you to Cross Collar Choke someone that has training.

I just started BJJ a month ago and this video has been extremely helpful to me. I'm moving to the Fort Mill area to go to school in Charlotte and I really hope to come train at your school when I get there.

Very clear explanation of the nuances, especially weight distribution on the hip mount and switching to grapevine for the offense. Thanks!
I wish the audio was a little better though.

serious question, when going ahead and posting only one hand on the mat with the other hand in the guy's collar while you're grape vining, is it possible for the guy on bottom to hip bump and sweep you off on the side in which you don't have a hand to base off on?

how exactly do your wrists turn or upper arms pushing into their neck? what is the motion that is made would be helpful, like a scissor?

@mrtyson2u I'm not sure how I would apply this no gi and have the same type of effect. I guess if I controlled palms down I could get some good crushing pressure but I'm not sure I would be able to do it with any level of effectiveness against a good opponent. I would be interested in seeing how Cassio did it as he has a very legit game.
