    I think Bernardo deserves a lot of credit. Specifically, he shows genuine excitement from learning yet also asks questions that the audience should know to understand and to focus when trying to learn the techniques. Helping both the instructor and the audience.

    Takeaways:
    1. Stay high enough to shutdown elbow escape and worry only about bridging
    2. Get the first grip: get you whole arm in as deep as possible. Feel your wrist on the neck.
    3. Protect yourself from bridging escape by adjusting your balance
    4. Get thumb in first for your second grip and strip opponents fingers with rotating wrist motion
    5. Post your head for balance if needed
    6. Feet 🦶 alway stay attached for control

    • @poleag
      @poleag ปีที่แล้ว +2

      7. Attack with Ezekiel when opponents hands go low.
      8. Push opponent's arms together as you climb higher.
      9. Attack with armbar if opponent defends against second grip with opposite hand.
      10. Specifically train mount. If you just spar normally, you will spend almost zero time attacking or defending in mount.

    • @myPhDinAwesomeness
      @myPhDinAwesomeness ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@poleag so basically.. your first option is to x-choke, if hands low ezekiel, if elbow goes up you try an armbar. How to avoid someone exploding by shrimping violently as you get mount?---you just make sure to catch them turn and armbar??

      roger's teaching method is as follows: "here's the 101 details essential to doing this one thing right" o.0 [EDIT] if he takes a collar grip on you, he can talk to you about 10-20 elements of a proper collar grip.

    • @biscobisco1882

  • @aristolochene
    @aristolochene 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The start stop drill that Roger was discussing towards the end of this video is very similar to something I would do in basketball. It's a very programmed version of deliberate practice. There is a shooting drill in which the objective to make 5 shots in a row from various spots on the floor. If you miss a shot you start over. Seems simple but it was actually quite challenging. As your accuracy and consistency develop you increase the number of shots you need to make in a row to advance to the next spot.
    This also sort of reminds of how Rickson would describe going in on certain days and work on some specific part of his development. For instance, he would, no matter what happened, even if it meant he got submitted, he would only try and arm bar a person on a particular training day.

    Small request for Bernardo’s video editing team: the sound in the video is one level, very low sound, and the outro sequence is super loud when compared to it. Not just in this video, but in all the videos under BJJFanatics. Can you please look into it?

    Just the details in the beginning of getting your knees up further to a high mount to prevent the elbow escape and leaning to the opposite side from where your arm is exposed, and lowering your yourself further and posting using your head, it’s a complete game changer towards maintaining the mount position. This has helped me immensely in the past.
