This solo encompasses so much technicality, being able to play it correctly at full speed like felt like graduating guitar-academy. Arpeggios, sweep picking, string skipping, alternate picking, pinch harmonics, pullons, pullofs, speed, accuracy and I'm probably forgetting stuff. Took me 20 years and I'm still not consistent in nailing it!
Dude you can't beat yourself up for not getting Marty solos to sound right. He has such a weird picking style and is incredibly expressive for metal. Your vibrato sounded sooo close, really impressed. The sweep timing too, I dunno if it's just me, but when I hear Marty do it, it seems like he's kind of behind the beat. It always seems like he hangs on just a split second then releases on bends, sweeps, etc. But yah, your playing doesn't sound like generic Instagram shred. You have a great tone and feel, much respect.
He does infact most of the great solos from these classic metal eras Are not perfectly quantized to a grid like all this modern lifeless shit. You should still strive for perfection but enjoy the human elements that make it sound good.
Been playing since I was 7 and currently 15. Going strong I'd say, definetely haven't been practicing SHREDDING the whole time, but I am 100% self taught. I don't tend to play much of metal anymore I moved more toward the Van Halen stage of my playing. I like to free style doodle a lot for practicing, I also use a metronome when practicing scales and solos. I do aspire to be like you when you were 16, cause you kicked ass and still do. Rock on Bradley!
It’s my favourite Megadeth solo ever, so I’m a little disappointed you changed it and added all those sweeps. That being said, the fact you were doing it at 16 and have mastered it now is most impressive
I was going to say… I’m pretty sure Marty plays like quick arpeggios with some tapping with the middle finger in this section, not this sweep technique. Sounds cleaner the way Marty plays it. But props for making that section his own
It's beautiful to see how far you have come mr Beadley. Keep up and Friedman himself will have to bow to your technique (of course he will no longer be able to play due to advanced age by then). Amazing! Cheers from Brazil, I'm a huge fan!
I have been playing for 12 years. I love how you showcase the realities of being a musician unlike other TH-cam guitarists that only show perfection. From watching your videos, I am more inspired by the progress I've made as a musician. Still have many mistakes, but they are not nearly as bad as they used to be. Thank you.

As far as timing goes, Marty's style has such a loose style of playing, that his runs can start to sound more free from the metronome, but he pulls it off so nicely, it's what makes his style so superior.
Great job, especially the one at 16! This solo is so tough that even Marty would play an easier version of it for most live shows. Though I'd love to see an update without the sweeping; Marty has said he picks the notes and doesn't sweep.
Awesome video. The recent recording is obviously incredibly impressive, but I love the teenager one because you can feel the drama of your younger self trying to nail an incredibly difficult piece, and hear the little mistakes and instances of string noise, compared to the new recording, where you can definitely hear that you’ve been playing this solo for years and have a totally valid interpretation in your own right, the same way Kiko and Chris Broderick do. Sort of a Gary Moore vs Jason Richardson type of thing- both incredibly awesome in their own ways. I’ve been playing a couple years and am approaching your teenage self’s level of abilities, so this was incredibly inspiring to see.
I personally feel like all of us guitarists always feel like we aren't able to play "as" good as we like, I feel like SRV or even Steve Vai always wanted more out of their existing songs and or techniques. Very well done. I think you put my definition of guitar in one segment
People do not truly understand how difficult these sweeps and shapes actually are to get right! Even at sixteen you understood the method ,and were only off on timing causing you to rush! Your present day playing of this solo is as brilliant and magnificent as it gets! It’s very impressive to someone who also can play this solo! In fact ,after watching this I’ve realized my version of this isn’t as perfect,or as on point as i previously thought ,after all! 🔥🔥🖤🖤🔥🔥

Memory's a little hazy, but I'm pretty sure I found out about this solo through you, Bradley. From one of your Tornado of Souls mini-series (Thanks btw!). After that, I decided to search for the song and found Kiko Loureiro's playthrough and after finishing said video, I said to myself "I must learn this song!". That was when I started to get into more technical playing, have put many hours on the solo and still trying to learn that part to this day. And then on February last year, late into the night, I was several hours in on learning and grinding the solo, I suddenly had a chest pain (either it was caused by fatigue or by my medical condition) and I passed out. My dad went to toilet and saw me on the floor in my room, thankfully I didn't close the door or else my family wouldn't have known I collapsed. Even after that event, I'm still as obsessed as ever when it comes to this solo, albeit, being a little more careful, so I don't collapse again. 😅 I guess that's one of the stories of my journey with this solo and guitar playing in general. The ending of this video - “do this, do that” - is my favorite part, but I also enjoyed watching your right hand sweeping technique during the newer part of the video. 👍🏼
You were more technically proficient at 16 than I've ever been (age 30 now). Then again I've never been great at sitting down and disciplined practicing 😅 I still can't precisely nail that fast little pentatonic lick in the Seize the Day solo. I'm much better at everything else in the solo though 🤣
I'm playing guitar for over 30 years now, but I can't even think to attempt learning that solo (and it's one of my favourite solos). But the truth is, I'm not "man enough" like you are in this video, to go on you tube saying I can't play guitar really really well, or that I do mistakes and so on, and many times it takes years to master a craft. You're my hero :)
Excellent playing mate even at 16 you were very good but now you can see with maturity and more experienced your a very polished and Excellent player/performer. Goodluck with the rest of your journey.
I'm happy to see that I'm 17 and my technique isn't much worse than yours at that age. I watch youtubers like you and I get mad about how good the videos are, but this gives me a bit of hope (and motivation to record my own videos xd)
Man, when I was 16 I did nothing but playing guitar. My first wall that I hit was Kirk's solo in Master of Puppets, it took an eternity to get it right. Now with 36 I'm pretty confident and consistent to get it right even with 6 beers in my blood but it was a long way there. Countless hours of practicing, I remember going insane when all I did was spider exercises for 5 hours a day... for weeks. But eventually, I am where I am now and I don't miss any second of it to be honest. Never stop playing
This tracks with my experience. What you have by the age of 16-17 in terms of ability is 80% of all you'll ever have. It's absolutely frightening how much you can learn as a child with seemingly no effort, and how grueling it is to keep climbing the hill after your mid 20s. Kudos to you and thanks for all the videos!
I don’t have an ear for all of the details, nuance of guitar playing but it completely sounded like you’ve grown from 16 to 32 yr old you! Congrats on coming so far… practice does make perfect people!!!
Killer talent at 16 bro!!..I was just chugging at that age...I tend to over complicate my sweep picking..just started to get them down after like the last five years...I've been playing since like 1993..😝
Love this video because of just how true it is. Many times in my playing I get really down, but then I take a look back at a demo from just a year ago, then 2 years, then 3, and I just realize how much my playing has drastically improved. Guitar is one of those things that just subtly gets better with time, and it can be hard to realize it.
Yes bro. True. I want to run… while still walking……. IN EVERYTHING! Call it an addictive personality. Or im a big dreamer. Just get me there already!!! Lot of work patience and years for the good stuff in life, im seeing
Damn dude i'm 17 and at 16 the only solo i could play was blinded by fear by at the gates, now... Umm... It didn't really change, shredding is really hard
Just started learning it, im about a year older than you when you filmed that. I just know im gonna spend ages on this one😂thanks for the inspo Bradley
Your passion speaks volumes. I love this! It has given me the motivation to keep on going. I bitch when it takes me over a year to learn something. Holy shite man 16 years? You are my GUITAR HERO! This guitar slinging woman just adores your passion.
Honestly, the 16 year old version would have passed at a live show for most situations. haha. Great job. If I put on my teacher hat, I'd say the biggest improvement I noticed is your timing. That solo has a lot of syncopation, and a lot of phrases don't start on downbeats so hitting that is just as hard if not harder than the notes themselves IMO.
All things considered, that solo you did back then in the age of 16 was really impressive.

Same here. I've got a solid rhythm but a cringey lead mode, but my rhythm overshadows and people don't find any faults
Tone, technique, vibrato & technique like this truly do take decades to develop
La fluidez en la digitalización y el ataque de la mano derecha y muñeca con la púa. Son características de una madurez y pasión por el instrumento. Mis felicitaciones para ti colega.
Wow... For 16 years you did a pretty good job! In wich age have you started playing guitar?
Age 0
He started at age 12 according to his recent video, this is still very good progress for just 4 years of playing.
@@krenzzie7290 4 years of playing, already sweeping... yeah, I bet we can say it's kinda correct indeed :D
@@krenzzie7290 lol pretty good… it’s damn near unbelievable he’s that good after 4 years.
The day Bradley was born he drove his parents back from the hospital and bought his first guitar in a smelly pawn store while heading home pedal to the metal .
The caption at the end... so inspiring.
I used to be bad at playing Wonderwall...
Now I can play solos
Dude, your 16 year old you, puts my 37 year old me to absolute shame. Kudos to you! 🤘
Yea I was just like... bro I'm 36 and I'm still working out the first like 15 notes lol
i’m currently 14 trying to learn this solo. i can’t wait till i’m like 20 and see the progress
Your 16 year old was already better than present me, and you've only become insanely better, such inspiration
Bro I'm starting to get pretty good at master of puppets! Now I just need the solo and that one breakdown Kirk and James do mid song! You're an amazing guitarist!
Hey man, how's your progress? Have you learned the solos? James' solo is not that hard if you ask me. I have not even attempted kirk's. Give it your best and you'll get there🤘🏻
@@nv_vuqar thx I haven't been mainly focusing on Master of Puppets, I've been doing other songs like Tornado of Souls by Megadeth, and other Megadeth songs. Thx for asking, I'll learn it eventually
It's very hard to replicate another guy's style. Good job.
0:02 Why music in background sounds like a DooM midi
Probably guitarPro that plays in midi with tabs for users to follow.
The ending of this video - “do this, do that” - is my favorite part, but I also enjoyed watching your right hand sweeping technique during the newer part of the video. 👍🏼
You were more technically proficient at 16 than I've ever been (age 30 now). Then again I've never been great at sitting down and disciplined practicing 😅
I still can't precisely nail that fast little pentatonic lick in the Seize the Day solo. I'm much better at everything else in the solo though 🤣
Thats actually fucking awesome for that age.
Back then I wasn’t even ready to think about completely butchering this solo
This is by very far the best guitar solo I’ve ever heard , especially 1:42
Dude, even @ the age of 16 it was astonishing, you nailed it and yeah, I've done this, that and 🌋 greets from Belgium!
Dude has more talent in four fingers than I have in my entire body! 🤯
It's like 240p to 8K!!! The feel, timing, vibrato and command is amazing!! You kill!
Bradley, чувак я так горд за тебя!
Что тут делают фанаты доры и моргенштерна?
I'm playing guitar for over 30 years now, but I can't even think to attempt learning that solo (and it's one of my favourite solos).
But the truth is, I'm not "man enough" like you are in this video, to go on you tube saying I can't play guitar really really well, or that I do mistakes and so on, and many times it takes years to master a craft.
You're my hero :)
By 48, I predict you're going to master this. Great job, my dude.
I started at an age of 20😢
@@methal0-111 Right? I was super casual about learning in my teens and now that I'm older it takes forever to get new techniques down...
th-cam.com/video/8_1EywRL_Ss/w-d-xo.html the video you are looking for (for you metalheads :) )
I don’t have an ear for all of the details, nuance of guitar playing but it completely sounded like you’ve grown from 16 to 32 yr old you! Congrats on coming so far… practice does make perfect people!!!
Sounds amazing👌🤘I been playing for 1-2 years now
Those RG's are just sooo comfy to shred on. Extremely glad that was my first electric
Killer talent at 16 bro!!..I was just chugging at that age...I tend to over complicate my sweep picking..just started to get them down after like the last five years...I've been playing since like 1993..😝
Smashed the like button just because of that Ghost shirt. Rock on man!
At age 16 you actually nailed the ending section and that's honestly the weirdest part of the solo.
Amazing talent at 16, and treated to a crossover with my favorite band with your ghost shirt, 10/10 video man
Your 16 year old self is still better than 99.9% of guitar players.
Lot of work patience and years for the good stuff in life, im seeing
sweeping like that at 16... you were always destined for greatness.
Damn dude i'm 17 and at 16 the only solo i could play was blinded by fear by at the gates, now... Umm... It didn't really change, shredding is really hard
What is the song! I am gonna cry! Such an accomplishment imo at 16 and you are better now….❤
Its fine bradley hall, that guitar solo looks good.
Looks and Sounds Great to me,Practice makes Perfect...16 years..Wow,You did it😂👍Thanks for Sharing..Keep Rockin🤘🖤🎸🎶
Legendary video
That sentence at the end inspiring me so much. Thank you ❤️
I appreciate the bit of knowledge you shared at the end.. “step back”.. needed to hear that today
congrats !!! everything is possible when you work on it !!!
16 years? I mean, wow, it's a great encouragement for someone who's just starting to learn how to play guitar. Thanks Bradley :(
Pretty effin cool dude. This channel is awesome.
having 16 years old and you had those sweeps, man that's amazing!!!
Took you more than half of your life to almost master that David Mustard's solo. That's how good the Mustang Gang is!!! Legend!
It's Marty Friedman. Dave's rhythm guitarist mostly.
Having the right shorts with the proper aerodynamic fluency really does give the freedom to shred at full capacity. Great stuff 🤘🏻
Just started learning it, im about a year older than you when you filmed that. I just know im gonna spend ages on this one😂thanks for the inspo Bradley
Absolutely killed it now (not bad back then too). One of my favourite solos, btw.
Your passion speaks volumes. I love this! It has given me the motivation to keep on going. I bitch when it takes me over a year to learn something. Holy shite man 16 years? You are my GUITAR HERO! This guitar slinging woman just adores your passion.
LOVE the GP5 backing track, really brings me back!
Bradley, when I was 16 I can't even fucking sweep. You are a hell of a shredder!
Your sweep picking technique is on point.
The fact that you could sweep pick at 16 in general is an incredible feat on it's own
Jesus YT wouldn't stop recommending this video so I finally clicked. Nice playing. GORGEOUS guitar for your 32 year old self, you have great taste
