    Tornado Of Souls is NOT the hardest Megadeth solo, but by god, its arguably the most beautiful solo in metal history, certainly in thrash metal history.

      Symphony of Destruction, A Tout Le Monde, Trust, and Peace Sells are pretty easy...well not necessarily easy, but easy compared to most of their stuff.

      @@halesentertainment2334 Some of the Polands solos from Peace sells are quite hard to replicate. Otherwise you are right. Getting good vibrato and bending are the hardest part with the other solos mostly. Broderick solos are basically just damn fast with some arpeggios and string skipping, hard solos for sure.

      That statement was to differentiate between that and a bunch of bends, skips, vibratos, or something else. That particular section was in contrast to most of the other sections in the amount of focused hammer ons and pull offs. It's a valid statement to illustrate a changing form of attack.

      I’ve learned both and Lucretia is absolutely harder. It moves around the neck faster and has some weird arpeggios.

      its def harder from an ear perspective. the solo after that is mostly arpeggios with distinct shapes. its harder to PLAY but not harder to learn

    hilarious. I'm an intermediate guitarist who made it my goal to learn this solo in a year. After an entire year of scouring the internet for the best tabs/lessons on it, I learned it note for note and played it almost perfectly...at 20bpm slower than the recording. Well done for one day!!!

      @@_r3verie I was able to sweep pick within the first few months. I loved guitar a lot getting into it, so I practiced 8 hours a day while I was between jobs and getting ready for college. I put many hours and time into the guitar even though it’s only been about 4 months now. So really, I’m probably up there with a lot of the year long players by hours put in. Yesterday I was finally able to complete this full song with solo up to speed. You get as much back as you put in.

      @@firemonkey1015 You gotta understand that it sounds hard to believe you got that level of technique within 4 months. No matter the time you put in. Learning usually doesn't work like that. There's diminishing returns after your focus lessens 1 or 2 hours in.
      I mean if that's true, you could totally rake up some views if you put it on here. I'd watch it.

    It feels like he missed some important notes in the solo, especially in the beggining, not criticizing, it just seems a little emptier than megadeth’s version, anyway... I couldn’t do any better than this lol

      I mean yeah....this is clearly not as good as Marty though a very good version for someone learning like that(I'd be curious how long it took him to get to the final version. To be fair every guitarist Megadeth got after Marty still couldn't pull this solo off as good as that album though some are very close. The biggest issue with most versions of this solo is that they sound like a more robotic version and they tend to miss some of the important subtle notes. He even describes the issue with playing this is the melodic rhythm on the notes which is something no other Megadeth guitarist could pull off as well as Marty.

      @@danielsgrunge Kiko does a very good job and does the best version I heard outside of Marty. Broderick version is pretty lackluster being its a robotic rendition which misses why this solo works with the melodic rhythm as explained in this video at 2:40

      If you watch it’s live performance or look at tabs the beginning part is a lot different but he did really good job at other parts.He is playing by ear of course it’s not going to be perfect we shouldn’t care that much because Tyler is legend and yes Kiko’s live performance was very accurate and well played.but any way we should thank megadeth members and marty for rust in peace.

    I don't think Tornado of Souls is the hardest Megadeth solo. I woulden't even say it's the hardest solo on Rust in Peace. It's just one of the most famous/popular.

    Basically every Megadeth Friedman solo ends at a wall of «I don’t understand what he’s doing here» or «that is basically impossible». Very rewarding learning them, though. And there’s a lot of theory-candy for anyone bothering to analyze them.

      yeah man. i remember trying to learn lucretia by ear and i had it all figured out, including some of the arpeggios in the off time section. then all of a sudden it gets so off time with arpeggios that don't make sense unless you're a fucking jazz proffessor, and i just said fuck it, i'm watching Chris Zoupa.

He improvises the entire original solo, then goes back and re-records and double tracks each individual section, sometimes changing some of the notes and phrases, until he's absolutely happy with it. It's super interesting, I'll see if I can find it!

    5:47 sounds like it's actually not an arpeggio but more like the Japanese pentatonic scale Marty always incorporated in this playing. Minor scale, drop the 4th and the 7th notes

    This makes me feel so much better. This is the EXACT same way I learn and when I hear myself while learning, I sound like a pile of crap. There were points in your learning process when the string skip and stuff was super muddy, glad to know that is normal even for someone as versatile as you are.

    I have relatively small hands and, at first, that passage seemed impossible for my hands, at least at that speed. After 1-2 weeks of irregular practice it became relatively easy. If you can stretch your fingers to both keys statically, using a proper posture and tecnique, then there's a good chance you can play that passage.

      seth bishop i started learning the basics on a site called justinguitars.com, found it by accident really. The site got me started on major scales, modes, and basic time signature. After that it’s a matter of googling what i want to know next, at least for me. The most productive way (and arguably easiest) to learn theory is by hiring an experienced tutor, so preferably do it if you have money to spare

Both of them have a very distinct style and you can tell Marty definitely wrote it due to his signature bends/arpeggios. He even said in an interview that after he finished this solo Dave shook his hand due to how great this solo is.

There i somehow met some people and ended up working for Ernie Ball going backstage and meeting pretty much every guitar hero touring my country after that: steve vai, john petrucci, deep purple etc etc. Kiko i met because he wanted to try a fretless guitar and there's a company in my country that does them (Vigier Guitars).

      I love Chris Poland. He is incredibly fast and fluid but the odd phrasing and all over the neck Marty does is a bit more challenging. I can't play nearly as fast as Poland but I can get through his legato style and rips... I can not play Marty solos

      @@evanage I've been playing for 18 years and I'm only just now getting into lead playing. The first solo I just nailed was "The Signal Fire" by Killswitch Engage and it's comparatively simple. This sort of stuff just takes practice and I'm the first to hold up my hand and admit that I've just never had the patience to go through the hard stuff meticulously.

      @@classuscle1605 believe it or not Tornado of Souls was the first solo I've ever learned, after like 3 months of playing guitar, at first I was awful, which is logical, I had no sense of rhythm, no feel in my playing, couldnt play bends and fast licks... and here I am 4 years later playing it almost perfectly by practicing it almost every day at least once or twice, learning hard stuff from the very beginning has been useful to me, though it doesnt work if you have no patience and you dont practice enough as you said

    I've watched this several times now, and I've watched Marty's "replacements" in Megadeth and the only one of them I felt did a good job of it was Kiko Loureiro because he decided to keep all the elements that Marty's brilliance created, but to make it his own with his phrasing and style.. I admire your attempt at recreation but there is only one Marty Friedman, the only way to play this solo fluidly is to practice it enough that it becomes yours. Marty Friedman came up with this masterpiece in his twenties...Young Dave Mustaine at his most arrogant shook his hand and thanked him after he heard it LOL!

      Pranav Dhokre I myself have learnt Fermented along with epitaph. And from my experience I find epitaph to be harder...but will check out stillborn one.
      Plus Suicmez was younger when Onset was released.......so the hardest solos have to be on epitaph........as Necro had more technically capable musicians at that era.

      Ryder Mendelson I'm a big ass Poland fan and I don't know if that's true or not. The thing is Poland's solos in those 2 songs note wise are pretty "standard" so to speak (as in not too many weird notes or timing) but to get his phrasing correctly, then they are damned hard to play properly. His bends in particular and overall cleanliness are insane. And there's his signature lick trying to imitate Jan Hammer that is very tough!

      Steel345 He's just doing the most well known solos. Most guitarists wouldn't call Creeping Death Metallica's hardest (has to be Blackened, Dyers Eve or Shortest Straw) and Tornado Megadeth's hardest (there's so many I couldn't really name them lol)

    I don't understand why someone would give 362 dislikes to this video. I just don't understand. It's maybe one of the hardest solos of metal music and this guy is trying to learn (and teach us through) it. He says it: "Learning". And he is giving pieces of advice from experience (for free!). Appreciate it, fuck. It's admirable. I mean... We are talking about Marty Fucking Friedman...

      actually Buckethead learned a Shawn Lane solo that even Lane couldn't play himself, there's a nice anectode on that by Lane...

      @@martinpaddle Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the thing you're talking about is Buckethead's tapping. Shawn Lane tried to create this sound by only using his fretting hand, I think if Shawn used his other hand as well like Buckethead does he would also be able to play it.

      martinpaddle oh and i would believe that... shawn had serious pain problems in his fingers so def st some point(even as a beast) he could not play his early stuff, and buckethead is a monster on his own so i totally believe it, not that being said, bucket loved and respectd shawn a whole lot, and he could not play those atonal runs without tapping, neither gilbert did...

    Sitting in my room for months learning Marty's solo's From Rust In Peace when I was a kid, was the best guitar training I ever had, his solo's taught me so much on how to be a guitar player. Those solo's still hold up to this day there's nothing out there that even comes close.
