    Great advice Matt!
    I now have hundreds of pictures of low tide beaches. Some taken from the beach and many taken from the cliff top on big tides. So many features - pools, gullies, sand patches and rock features. This year I will take more. Beaches are constantly changing. One beach I know the shingle has GONE😦. Another ( miles away ) it's built up. I have devised a rig to fish the rocks using shingle for weights. Which release if snagged. Can't wait to see if it works..

    Really interesting video thanks Matt. Lots of things that most of us knew already, but always good for anyone new to sea angling. Quite impressed with the Colmic rod. I've been looking for a mate for my Vertix Jack but very few about since Grauvell went bust. I've also just about settled on a medium/heavy lure rod for metals - I think I'm going for an Abu tormentor if the piggy bank stays healthy! Stay safe & well! 👍👍

    How does the tapered line work? Does it continually increase and decrease in diameter at given lengths of the spool?

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Starts off the same diameter as the mainline and gradually increases to be 60lb so you can cast a weight . They are usually about 15 m long so you can cut a few times without effecting either end too much. It’s worth getting a micrometer to check sometimes Lidl do one for about £8

    Are you at stamco Hastings good spot that I've fished it many times the most fish I've caught there is 46 fish in one tide side of that groin wall on your right either side of the pier is good also further down at the harbour arm is a great spot my personal favourite is down at cooden beach side of the beach huts

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just back from last minute session in the Bristol Channel. Mentioned on another one of your videos that this summer I was gonna try out for bass with a float around local rocks. Went a couple of times, not a sniff but did lose a float by using too much depth and getting snagged up. This time, shortened on the depth but just while I was thinking of calling it a day, I realised I had a decent bass on. Not really usually into weights so don't own any fishing scales but reckon about 5.5 lbs. Great to have the plan work - for a change!

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s great news, I remember oh and consider the length to weight tape measure for bass that are sold by b.a.s.s really good if you can’t weigh a fish and good catch !

    Thanks for another great video! I have a question that may also help some people. If you’re fishing in rough sea conditions from a pier and the rod tip is bouncing and you’re using max lead weight e.g 7 ounce, is there anything you can do to stop the grip lead bouncing?

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using a running ledger might help. When we used to fish the strong tides on river breakwater we made sure the lead could move up and down the line easing that tension directly through to the rod tip.

      Thanks Matt, do you have any advice regarding bait selection?
      I would like to go for some mackerel at the start, so I'm assuming a set of daylight lures should be fine, and then bottom fishing overnight for anything else that may come along!

    Excellent Vlog if you watch the tightening of that leader knot those first turns you put in the knot were cancelled out by the last four turns you put in this would in my very modest opinion not only add extra unnecessary twist to your line but it could weaken the knot too 🤔

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a good spot and your right they are cancelled out BUT the reason for that initial turns is that the hold the loop neatly so when you come back in your self it’s easier to tie, if you tie that knot without the initial turns it’s harder. Thanks Stephen.

    Some videos on u tube are awesome but some are cringingly awful. It's much better to learn from a club or an experienced angler or you could be dragged down the wrong road. Angling is a sport of personal choices and preferences, it's not hard and fast rights and wrongs so you need to work very hard to find your own successful ways of doing things. I've been doing it for 45 years and I'm still learning as well as teaching.
