The last missing person was found this past week in East TN from the plastics factory. As tragic as this is, I am relieved that her family has found some closure.

I think it'll come out later that homesteaders and preppers living in those small areas that they are finding are helping their neighbors while they are cut off, and waiting for help from the outside...

It is pitiful and beyond understanding that the government isn’t helping more! They just leave?? America spends sooo many tax dollars on other countries and war, but they can’t help their own people to be rescued or continue the recovery of dead people for their families and a proper burial. The government needs to provide shelter, heat, supplies and whatever is needed to live, because that is their job to protect and defend all Americans. This was a disaster in this country.
And what about the RED CROSS. They just LEAVE. I would like to know if anyone knows if they really did anything in North Carolina. I saw no news reports or You Tube videos about them. I just saw one table giving out some supplies on one video. Shame on them for leaving. All you see on every news show or other television is constant requests for DONATIONS TO THE RED CROSS! They ask us for donations at our supermarket. Where does the money go? Where is the help? It is described as an organization that helps people that are suffering from floods, and disasters. They call themselves a lifeline. It is a multi billion dollar organization.

Thanks for the updates. I have been combing the thrift shops and finding màny super warm clothes. The big job is washing everything to be sanitary. For those of you sending warm clothes Dollar Tree has the warm knitted caps gray and navy and the kids knit gloves for $1.25 I have kust about wiped out my city of stuff. Local Henderson Co responders made contact with people in a variety of ways. On foot, ATV, mule/horse, by boat, air when possible and on community research pages when communications were restored, Henderson Co is already largely opened back up for business. They have zero customers still in livable homes that are without power. Their water system was “substantially restored” on 10/11/24. Like several other areas they are going to have some roads closed to unnecessary traffic for a while. There are going to be detours that change, and some communities are going to need additional assistance. It’s fairly common for local emergency services to provide water to people that are going to be out for some time. When they can get a larger water tank in, they will and they will have it refilled. Emergency services has access to property records, tax parcels and paper - electronic mapping. Mapping offices work very closely with 911. If someone actually is finding a bunch of people that have not seen anyone in 5 weeks, I’d be wondering who they are and what they are doing because there is a good chance that they don’t want to be found by responders. Henderson County (which Flat Rick is in) has 0 people that are missing at this time. This is the latest tally of unaccounted for people, now officially missing people. WFMY News 2 has asked 911 centers in every county in WNC and they have added their response to the list when they hear back from them. People are dealing with trauma, grief (not just grieving for people but their homes and the mountains( and shock. It’s also important to note that there are people/grifters/con artists out there spreading bad info. There are con artists taking resources from people. Several local fire department members are still being routinely approached and asked about the people that are actively being searched for in debris when that ended several days ago because they have made contact with, or know what happened to, the people in their county. The ones that still have a few unaccounted for may still be doing the searches but it’s sadly a situation where remains have been found several miles away and in different states due to the power and force of the flood water.

From what I've seen in the videos, I think I would move to higher ground and not rebuild so close to the river after living through a trauma like Helene. But even moving to higher ground doesn't ensure safety from an unexpected mud slide. So we are all at the mercy of the LORD in the end for our protection and safety as this earth can be a hostile place sometimes. Yes, it seems good for locals to check on locals. Make a list of families, check on them, record needs, have cbs and or radios so home base can keep tabs on crew, if no cell service, and crews can check with crews. Ham operators can provide updates to cb folks, etc. These inexpensive head lights are great for search rescue. I'd think more outsiders can clear roads, etc., but locals, or close by, are better for hiking into properties, etc. Great work you do.

JUST A THOUGHT: It's going to get real cold soon. It is great that many "Buddy" heaters have been given with 20lb gas bottles. However those bottles will become empty soon. In the powers to be (I'm not one of them at my age) perhaps getting LP gas companies semi tanks to NC and TN for refilling. Also, those tanks get heavy once filled and help would be needed to exchange the empty to full as some of us older folks cant carry 30lbs up a hill. Cold is a bad way to go. Just a thought. I can do no physical labor, however I can house a small family or a couple. That's a clean bed, a warm shower, and something to eat.

@@joanneblowey3001 As far as I know local responders and residents have already done this. They have been focused on laying eyes on everyone in their community since the storm hit.
Local Henderson Co responders made contact with people in a variety of ways. On foot, ATV, mule/horse, by boat, air when possible and on community research pages when communications were restored,
Henderson Co is already largely opened back up for business. They have zero customers still in livable homes that are without power. Their water system was “substantially restored” on 10/11/24.
Like several other areas they are going to have some roads closed to unnecessary traffic for a while. There are going to be detours that change, and some communities are going to need additional assistance.
It’s fairly common for local emergency services to provide water to people that are going to be out for some time. When they can get a larger water tank in, they will and they will have it refilled.
Emergency services has access to property records, tax parcels and paper - electronic mapping.
Mapping offices work very closely with 911.
If someone actually is finding a bunch of people that have not seen anyone in 5 weeks, I’d be wondering who they are and what they are doing because there is a good chance that they don’t want to be found by responders.
Henderson County (which Flat Rick is in) has 0 people that are missing at this time.
This is the latest tally of unaccounted for people, now officially missing people. WFMY News 2 has asked 911 centers in every county in WNC and they have added their response to the list when they hear back from them.

Some people are still talking about things that happened 3-4 weeks ago as if they are happening right now.
It’s important to note the days - weeks following the storm have blurred together for some people. Many are experiencing brain fog that is perfectly natural. It’s a lot to take in. This fog is lifting for many now but for the first few weeks several couldn’t tell you what month or year it was. The time that passed either felt like 3 minutes or 3 years to them.
People are dealing with trauma, grief (not just grieving for people but their homes and the mountains( and shock.
It’s also important to note that there are people/grifters/con artists out there spreading bad info. There are con artists taking resources from people.
Several local fire department members are still being routinely approached and asked about the people that are actively being searched for in debris when that ended several days ago because they have made contact with, or know what happened to, the people in their county.
The ones that still have a few unaccounted for may still be doing the searches but it’s sadly a situation where remains have been found several miles away and in different states due to the power and force of the flood water.
@Ctavano You gotta start somewhere. School enrollment records could be another source of info. Post office records maybe. Or drivers license records which could be searched via addresses, ie , all drivers living on RR#1, Sylva NC. I'm just brainstorming.

Thank you for posting the videos and the good report that people are getting some of their needs met from all your hard work and the generous donations of concerned Americans. I'm also thankful that a private company is helping with recovery so people can have closure of lost loved ones. This tragedy in NC has affected the hearts of so many of us across the nation. From what I've seen in the videos, I think I would move to higher ground and not rebuild so close to the river after living through a trauma like Helene. But even moving to higher ground doesn't ensure safety from an unexpected mud slide. So we are all at the mercy of the LORD in the end for our protection and safety as this earth can be a hostile place sometimes. Yes, it seems good for locals to check on locals. Make a list of families, check on them, record needs, have cbs and or radios so home base can keep tabs on crew, if no cell service, and crews can check with crews. Ham operators can provide updates to cb folks, etc.
These inexpensive head lights are great for search rescue.
I'd think more outsiders can clear roads, etc., but locals, or close by, are better for hiking into properties, etc. Great work you do.

JUST A THOUGHT: It's going to get real cold soon. It is great that many "Buddy" heaters have been given with 20lb gas bottles. However those bottles will become empty soon. In the powers to be (I'm not one of them at my age) perhaps getting LP gas companies semi tanks to NC and TN for refilling. Also, those tanks get heavy once filled and help would be needed to exchange the empty to full as some of us older folks cant carry 30lbs up a hill. Cold is a bad way to go. Just a thought. God help us.
