Asheville has always held a very special place in my heart, and the three times I've been in/through there in the last month since the flooding has been both depressing and yet at the same time uplifting - depressing seeing the devastation, yet uplifting witnessing the local, regional, and national response to the tragedy. I've committed to doing all of my Christmas shopping from vendors and/or craftsmen/producers from Buncombe county and the surrounding counties (Henderson, Madison, Yancy, Transylvania), and I would encourage others to do the same.
I've visited Asheville twice the most recent February 2024. It was very beautiful but before my last visit I did research. Asheville had an unusually high crime rate for a city that size. I made sure to stay away from more populated areas because of that. Im not sure what changed from my first visit to my second visit?????? SOMETHING HAS!
I live in Asheville. I shower every other day and wash my laundry in Asheville city water. As the water department recommends, I Do Not drink or brush my teeth with city water. Thank you so much for your updates Elena! We have reserved, back in June, an AirBnB in downtown Asheville for the week after Christmas. We wanted to see the Biltmore with the Christmas decorations and other sites around Asheville. We’re still planning to go in December. We know it won’t be the same but we want to come and maybe play a small part in helping the community to get back on its feet. I’ve contacted the AirBnB owner once after the hurricane and will contact her again in the next few weeks to get updates on the area. God bless all the folks affected by this disaster. We went through the massive flood in Baton Rouge back in 2016. It was the worst thing we’ve been through in our lives. But we didn’t have near the destruction that North Carolina and other areas had during Helene. Our hearts are broken for y’all. We hope to see some of you soon! ❤️
