Not true - lots of people continue to assist with the recovery effort in both South Carolina and North Carolina. My staff take volunteer leave to help out in that area and report there is plenty of help, although there is still an immense amount of work to do.
I see the attention L.A. wildfires are getting and then see my people in Western NC left alone and it angers me. We have been forgotten. But celebrities who have a burned mansion are on tv crying. I thank you for coming to help. People of faith have come from all over the country to help. We will be okay because we know God is here for us.
The destruction in California proves that mother nature is an equal opportunity destroyer. It doesn't seem right to compare the two disasters. Those people are in just as bad a situation as North Carolina. I believe the issue is a government that does not care enough about the people! Stop electing politicians who only want power and money for themselves. How much money do you think wealthy people spend trying to force their ideology on the rest of the country. Billions of dollars given to lobbyists that buy our politicians to pass laws that benefit them, while they lie to us to get us to go along with it. My main concern is making sure I get my social security check in a few years when I become eligible and being able to pay my freaking property taxes... And still have enough money to survive comfortably in my old age.
N. Carolina had full coverage just like California. Its been two weeks for Cali right now, and soon the media will be leaving. However, new fires break out every single day threatening other areas of the state is why they are still getting attention. Again, its only been two weeks. N. Carolina got that much I know of for sure. Then they scared FEMA away and cried for Trump to appear. Where is he? I donated to the cause, but after all this politics, I couldn' take it anymore. So MANY videos appearing claiming no one was getting help from the Government. FEMA was not giving them more, but then threatened FEMA reps. YOU cannot do that. Accept what you can. FEMA is not homeowners insurance.

Billions have been given. The problem is people want to stay at these falling apart communities. You cannot blame that. This area was already the poorest of the poor. They have to leave. Some lived in shacks falling apart or single trailers to begin with.
@@jeangill302 I suggest that you come up here and tell these folks they don't deserve to stay on their property ... Get your affairs in order before you try ... These mountain folks will explain life to ya ...
@@jeangill302 and you're clueless ! Yeah, a few "shacks" were destroyed but most homes that are gone were not shacks. And disparaging some folks for living in manufactured homes, showed what type of character you possess !
If the government can afford to pay a foster family to house the children because the temporary shelter in the hurricane area is not sufficient, then they can absolutely afford to give the entire family enough to stay in a hotel room for a while. They've already lost their homes and now they are suffering from a combination of victim-blaming and having to worry about whether or not their kids are OK with strangers.
Where are your Senators and State Representatives?? They were front and center when the cameras were there. If FEMA isn’t doing their job your state needs to be fighting for you!!
They all show up for the photos but when the cameras are gone - so are the elected. FEMA did nothing for the tornado victims in NY this summer either and who knows how the people on Maui are doing. FEMA is a waste and needs to be defunded.
NC may have a democrat governor but the state government is run by republicans. They believe in small government and no handouts. They are prioritizing taking complete control over state politics. That is their priority, not providing for citizens.
I've been wondering that too. I live in a blue state and I think it would have been a better response than the Carolina government has done. Shame on them for not taking care of their constituents. Hopefully they remember that the next election cycles they go through for local elections.
They are getting the suffering that most of them voted for. They just thought they were voting for other people to suffer, not themselves. They don't need government help -- they can pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, just like they want the "others" to do.
And the wealthy, Cali elites wonder why no one cares about their LA mansions burning down. It's because of WNC and the other hurricane victims that've been left out to die in the cold in tents.

First off, i live in McDowell County in North Carolina. Black Mountain, North Carolina is not in McDowell County. A lot of people in McDowell County have given aid to people in Swananoa, Burnsville and Chimney Rock. I have tried to point out these people have been forgotten. The county governments have stood in the way of many measures. The power companies could put in temporary power poles to provide power to campers but refuse to do so. The folks I'm with spent about $100,000 of their inheritance expecting it to be reimbursed and he took that too and wants the trucks, trailers and other equipment they bought with their money.
We, the American people, have donated trailers, food, construction companies have come on and on and we have done our best to give all that we can. This week we donated to Hope for Crisis to help with the winterizations of trailers that were donated by the America people. Hope for Crisis had to BUY trailers that Fema had ordered and then failed to pick up. These peoples stories are on Face Book. Hope for Crisis shows there work there. This is not the federal government's job. This is the local government's and the state government's responsibility. Local governments should be organizing and state governments should be supporting local efforts. The ENTIRE population should be demanding their federal representatives legislate M4A and stop taking campaign funds from health insurance companies.

This is how it is whenever natural disasters happen on small scales to little communities, and those are never covered, no one that loses a home in smaller floods, or to house fires gets this kind of assistance, or any media coverage. Just saying people forget that thousands of others go through this every year, but on a smaller scale, and there's no relief, no one blinks an eye. Also, a lot of the renters are basically saying they are doing better now than before because they were given RVs, clothes, food, even people donating to give them their own wells............ That's more than a lot of other hard working folks are getting, including those that had a mortgage, etc. I'm not understanding donating puppies to displaced, folks without jobs, seems like backwards priorities to me.

OMG, they are taking children away from people who lost their homes in the hurricane because they don't have a home? WITAF!
Sick, what are they doing with those children?
Child trafficking is a thing.
That's insane
If the government can afford to pay a foster family to house the children because the temporary shelter in the hurricane area is not sufficient, then they can absolutely afford to give the entire family enough to stay in a hotel room for a while. They've already lost their homes and now they are suffering from a combination of victim-blaming and having to worry about whether or not their kids are OK with strangers.

Couldn't agree more!!! 💯 Local and state government are as absent as federal.

First off, i live in McDowell County in North Carolina. Black Mountain, North Carolina is not in McDowell County. A lot of people in McDowell County have given aid to people in Swananoa, Burnsville and Chimney Rock. I have tried to point out these people have been forgotten. Palm Harbor? Is that near Safety Harbor? I have been to the area many times. Had an uncle in Dunedin for years. It was where I planned on retiring but the cost was too much for me. So very sorry. Unfortunately I am disappointed hearing that these poor folks here think Trump is going to ride in on his white horse and solve everything.
It's because the media lies, I reckon that since none of this is remotely reliable that folks were fearful and quit thinking critically and vote for felons.
What do you KNOW, FOR A FACT to be the death toll to be in your county? Why weren’t those names added to a missing persons list?

"It behooves us to remember that men can never escape being governed. Either they must govern themselves or they must submit to being governed by others. If from lawlessness or fickleness, from folly or self-indulgence, they refuse to govern themselves, then most assuredly in the end they will have to be governed from the outside. They can prevent the need of government from without only by showing that they possess the power of government from within. A sovereign cannot make excuses for his failures; a sovereign must accept the responsibility for the exercise of the power that inheres in him; and where, as is true in our Republic, the people are sovereign, then the people must show a sober understanding and a sane and steadfast purpose if they are to preserve that orderly liberty upon which as a foundation every republic must rest." -- "Teddy" Roosevelt (At Jamestown Exposition, April 26, 1907.) This is how it is whenever natural disasters happen on small scales to little communities, and those are never covered, no one that loses a home in smaller floods, or to house fires gets this kind of assistance, or any media coverage. Just saying people forget that thousands of others go through this every year, but on a smaller scale, and there's no relief, no one blinks an eye. Also, a lot of the renters are basically saying they are doing better now than before because they were given RVs, clothes, food, even people donating to give them their own wells............
