He's got big following in Ireland, whenever we have a family get together he's always one of the go to's toward the end of the night and our inhibitions are well gone
You need the infamous 3rd verse he sings in concert! 🤣 Garth is THE BEST! "Well I guess I was wrong I just don't belong But then, I've been there before And everything is alright I'll just say goodnight And I'll show myself to the door Hey I didn't mean to cause a big scene Just wait 'til I've finished this glass Then sweet little lady I'll head back to the bar And you can KISS MY ASS!"
That era of country is a turning point. They still had the classic sound had fiddle, banjo, steel guitar and the twang. I’m not a big country fan but some of those songs from that era and before are damn good. I’m a metal head all day but I’ll go on a country binge from time to time.
same; I'm more of a metalhead myself. Grew up in the 80's listening to metal... like Mötley Crüe, Poison, Ratt, Van Halen, Dokken, Ozzy, Def Leppard, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, etc. My old man played bass and/or guitar (pronounced: GIT-tar) in a country band or two, so I got exposed (whether I liked it or not) from time to time. He liked to rock, too, but the money was in the country gigs. As a teenager I started learning guitar mostly to play metal and never really learned to play country much. Maybe one of these days I'll buy myself a Telecaster and learn some licks. As I got older, I found that I could get down with some classic country artists, and Garth is probably the big one for me. I sang this one a time or two at a fraternity keg party back in the day! Hank Williams, Jr. is another one, as is Charlie Daniels Band. Willie Nelson. Maybe even Alabama. When GTA San Andreas came out, I even found myself tuning the radio station to K-ROSE intentionally from time to time, so most of those 15 tracks have wormed their way into my brain and set up house. And as you know, in a country house lives a gun, so they ain't coming out without a fight!
Yeah I completely agree. This was at the end of country music in my book. Country now is like weird pop/rap fake garbage. I personally like the oldies. Johnny Cash, Waylon, Hank Jr, stuff like that. Other than that I'm listening to classic rock, metal, or gangsta rap
Garth is one of the GOATS. I remember when he hit it big and EVERYONE was into his music, even if they weren't normally fans of country. His concerts would sell out so fast--and we're talking about the biggest venues--he would add additional concerts in each city and they would STILL sell out in a hot minute! And they weren't "typical" country affairs. Garth would get hooked up to wires and fly out over the crowd on his most rousing songs, like this one. He really dominated and changed the country music industry because he brought in so many new fans.
It’s called a yodel. Most people have heard the Swiss yodel but just about every culture has used the yodel. It was an effective sound for long distance communication in rural areas and even in the city!
It's essentially a yodel, but I think most country vocalists would call it a 'cry break' when it's just a single flip between registers rather than the rapid succession of flips we usually think of when we think of yodeling.
My friend won tickets and backstage passes to meet him from a radio station in the mid 90's and chose me as his guest. What an unbelievable experience. It all happened so fast but I remember him telling my friend and I to have a beer (before the show so he was drinking water) and we were nervous we both said no ty, but then my friend said Gary, when is the next time we will have a beer with Garth Brooks? We both decided we should have a Molson Canadian or 2....what an amazing man. Just an hour before showtime and he's backstage showing us photo albums full of his family and home he had renovated. I'll never forget the feeling as he rose up onto the stage with his iconic white piano and I looked around to the 20 thousand and thought oh man, 20 mins ago you would all have loved to have been me!
Metal head here..... Freaking Garth man.... next level stuff. He had us all quietly saying, hes the man! Please do more Garth. This is the guy for both of you!
As an old school 70s punk, I wasn't big on country when I first started hearing about Garth Brooks, and then I saw him hosting SNL and he was so into it and so funny, I had a whole new respect for him. So I did some research, discovered this song, and completely changed my opinion of him. I know some old school country music fans kind of sniff at his brand of music, but personally, I've come to like it all - old country, new country, alternative country, it's all good. And this is a damn good song, I don't care what anyone says. And he plays to HUGE crowds that sell out pretty much every time, when he tours.
One of the most awesome things I've ever seen at a party was an entire group of punks, and I'm talking 90's punks, go absolutely ape shit for a best of Bob Seger album someone put on. We sang just about every word of that album. Good music is good music.

@Charlie Vanlandingham well people that were around when Garth was topping the charts know about it. And stations like CMT banned the music video even though they didn't have the 3rd verse in their versions

Listen close in the group chorus. You'll hear "Push Marie!" One of his band members was at the hospital with his wife giving birth while they recorded this. The kids life is immortalized in song.
It doesn't matter what song you watch from live version. You HAVE to watch one live. He is a performer and will put a lot of rock stars to shame. He is amazing
I remember being in sixth grade and singing this at the lunch table. I can't remember what started it. Oooh but since you're wondering about country concerts, you should def do Garth Brooks live 'Aint going down till the sun comes up" 1992
This came out my freshman year of college...and to this day is a staple at any our barbecues...you just can't resist the urge to sing it! Garth Brooks, with this song, pretty much started the country/pop cross-over
Lex, I had the pleasure of seeing Garth in concert in Lubbock, TX a few years back and he puts on the best, most energetic, and entertaining concert you will ever see, regardless of genre. And the man can still sing! In fact he sang for nearly 3 hours that night and that was his 2nd show of the day! For the record, the concert was in the basketball arena where TTU plays which hold ~12,000 people and it was sold out for both shows that day.
First saw Garth on Austin City limits when he showcased his first album. I must say I was impressed, completely. You can't beat him, he has a rock and roll background too. React to The Dance next awesome song. Thanks keep rocking brothers and sisters ✌️🤘 Brother Gary 👓
The high voice inflection you were talking about the first break is a kin to, and has its roots In yodeling, and a popular technique in country music singing. Great reaction!!
One of the first country artists to breakthrough into the popular music scene. My father listened to old school country growing up, but my best buddy in 7th grade was a cow farmer's son and introduced me to this when we'd shoot pool in his basement on the weekends. My list of favorite country artists is short, but Garth has always been at the top.
Nah, there was a LOT of that happening in the early 80s with artists like Eddie Rabbit, Juice Newton, Alabama, and the Oak Ridge Boys, while the 70s had #1 hits from Glen Campbell, Kenny Rogers, and Dolly Parton. It just seems that way because country went super-twangy and really was painful for rock and pop fans to listen to until Garth and Shania showed up.
Love your reactions, you should try "The Dance" by Garth, it's a song that will bring a reaction to both of you, as it has to millions for many, many years, take care .
There are so many great Garth Brooks songs for you to listen to. The Dance, The Thunder Rolls, Rodeo, Callin' Baton Rouge, Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old), Ain't Goin' Down Til the Sun Comes Up, Papa Loved Mama, The River, and the list goes on and on and on.
This song was HUGE when it came out, and still is among country fans. I was never a big fan of country music, but like you, I can appreciate these "anthems" when they come around. Country songs with a similar vibe include Toby Keith's "Red Solo Cup" and Alan Jackson's "Chattahoochee." My dad was a country music fan, so I grew up hearing the more classic country songs of the 1960s when I would go places with him; there was always a country station playing on his car radio. I didn't really care for country, but there are some classic country artists from that era who had crossover hits into the pop charts. You'll want to listen, also, to Patsy Cline singing "Crazy", "I Fall to Pieces", "Back in Baby's Arms" and "Walkin' After Midnight" - she had a sublime voice, and even with their country twang, those songs are classics.
I wanna see them listen to that one. Was my favorite till me and my ex wife made it our song. Ruined it for me after the divorce. So I switched to Charlie Daniels Uneasy Rider. Lol
Every concert I’ve been to, rock, country or pop, they always cover this song and everyone knows every word. I’m not a huge fan of Garth Brooks, I think he’s over hyped in country compared to some other amazing artists, but he’s got some greats songs. This is definitely one of them.
Love watching these two do reactions. Brad is laid back cool and she has a super personality and never fails to make me smile. Doesn't hurt that she's absolutely gorgeous! Said with all due respect Brad.
Garth has a lot of huge hits. He has sold more albums than anyone. If you want to hear a different side of him, listen to “the dance”. My wife died last year and I still cry when I hear it. You two are great!!
His first album is in my top 10 list of most important albums; every song is gold but there 3 that outshine the rest. "If tomorrow never comes" "Much too young" "The dance"
I have seen him twice. Bar nun one of the best entertainers of all time. Stage presence is insane. He had a great writer in Chris. One concert not to miss.
17+ years ago my buddies and I would hang out at our favorite bar in Galveston and every time this song played the entire bar would sing along. Fun times and tons of memories.
The best live version of this song was Garth's (free) live concert in Central Park. At that time Garth Brooks was the biggest selling male artist in the world, but he admits he was apprehensive about doing the concert in Central Park when he was first approached about it by his management team and NYC officials, because he didn't know if anyone would even bother to show-up to see a country artist in NYC, but he was convinced to do it, take a chance, and to his amazement they came into his dressing room about an hour before the concert and told him the helicopters are measuring the size of the audience at about a million or some crazy number like that. Garth said he was absolutely stunned, then he was reminded there's still another hour until the concert starts, so they can't even estimate or guess how many people will be at Central Park by the time the show starts. I believe he closed the show with this song and the audience, IN NYC, sang along to the point where they knew EVERY WORD. He even let them sing the verse this video (like the radio) removed, where he essentially says his ex and her elitist friends can "KISS MY A--"
This song is a religion in northern Minnesota! Everyone MUST sing when it comes on the jukebox and you MUST have a beer in hand!!! Great reaction CouchGang!!
Great reaction!!! Lex, you're adorable. When Garth came onto the scene, he took country to a whole new level called "out of this world"!!! His most beautiful song (a slow tempo) is The Dance. It's a MUST MUST MUST listen to!!!! I'd love to hear your reaction to it. I'm gonna subscribe too. If you want to be blown away by a totally different genre, Pentatonix brand new cover of The Prayer is also a MUST MUST MUST!!!! Merry Christmas!!
That "thar" thing Garth does with his voice is applying a clipped yodel; a common vocalization done during the OG Country-Western era. Hank Williams was particularly talented in the clipped yodel.
They play this during the 4th quarter a lot at Neyland stadium (home of the university of Tennessee.) It's real special when that whole place is singing along.
I remember when this song came out. It took me months to allow myself to like it, just thought he wasn't traditional but then realized he was leading a new trend
You nailed it in the one word, Lex. Kinship. In Australia we'd say mateship. But it's the same thing. All about appreciating your people, and shared experiences.
I love it. I got everyone at work hooked on it. We all stopped work and would sing the whole song. Our boss at first was mad but eventually he joined us everytime. He was a musician. We worked at a printing company. We turned off the presses and the printers.
It was wild as you can imagine!! Texas stadium 1993 Garth was swinging around from ropes and there was fire everywhere!!! I was 9, but it was out of this world!! He was probably the biggest artist of any genre at the time!! Epic shows, epic sales, epic singer!! But as always, life happened and things changed. For better or worse is not for me to decide, I just really enjoy the memories I have of him and that show.
While living in Nashville for several years in the late 90's, one time I went to Tootsie's (famous Nashville honky-tonk) and the band's vocalist announced that Dewayne Blackwell was in the audience. She invited him up to the stage and he proceeded, along with the band, to perform this song that he wrote for Garth Brooks (Friends In Low Places) except he changed the lyrics to Pain In Low Places that referred to lower gastric distress. lol It was an absolutely hilarious rendition that is unforgettable.
They played this song at Denny's in my town when i worked there n everyone including my coworkers all started singing in harmony to this!! It was soo much fun!! My town is very big on country!!
I'm from Oklahoma where this guy is a fucking legend. We used to put this song on the jukebox at our local dive and the entire bar would break into song. It was awesome.
We were in a Texas Roadhouse in Alabama... this song comes on and everybody in the restaurant starts singing... so I joined them... cause it's that feel good in the soul song.
I once drove 200 miles to see Garth on his only Scottish concert date. He put on a fantastic show - and offered to make all our tickets good for the next night just so our friends could go!
If you like this you might like "Red Solo Cups" unfortunately I am blanking on who sings it ... but I still think you should listen to The Decemberists "The Crane Wife 1,2,&3", "The Infanta", "Yankee Bayonet", or "The Mariner's Revenge Song"
You can imagine a bar full of people singing this …because that’s exactly what happens, lol! Great song!
When he did this at a concert even if it was an arena the whole place becomes one giant bar and one big sing along
He's got big following in Ireland, whenever we have a family get together he's always one of the go to's toward the end of the night and our inhibitions are well gone

We have a bar called the Oasis and this song comes on the WHOLE BAR sings it , so fun
This song came on the bar I was at tonight, and you are 100% correct

sings in concert! 🤣 Garth is THE BEST!
"Well I guess I was wrong
I just don't belong
But then, I've been there before
And everything is alright
I'll just say goodnight
And I'll show myself to the door
Hey I didn't mean to cause a big scene
Just wait 'til I've finished this glass
Then sweet little lady
I'll head back to the bar
And you can KISS MY ASS!"

My head is like a FOOTBALL,,,,🤪🤪🤪👍
@@LordEagle I think I'm gonna die! Lol.
mighta bin the gin
As it’s Christmas let’s add Gramma got run over by a reindeer.
The cat is talking back 🤣
It doesn't matter what song you watch from live version. You HAVE to watch one live. He is a performer and will put a lot of rock stars to shame. He is amazing
You guys NEED to get into old school Outlaw Country. Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Jerry Reed, etc etc.
👍May I suggest adding Merle Haggard?
Look at Lex`s hair ? To much. I love it.
Garth Brooks, with this song, pretty much started the country/pop cross-over
Big fan of Garth's. Find this with him in concert. He adds a third verse to the song. Love you guys ❤
Yes! Have 2 hear that 3rd verse!
Also, in concert he's a totally different person. They call his onstage personality GB.
"I LOVE THIS BAR"TOBY KEITH,,this is a song that everybody sing together in a bar, very popular
Lexi: What do you call it when your voice slips up and down the scale like that?
Brad: Country.
I love it.
Yes!!! Lol!
Thanks keep rocking brothers and sisters ✌️🤘
Brother Gary 👓
Im from Texas. So of course I like this. lol. Old country song. This is like sing a long song at the bars down here in Texas .
Love your reactions, you should try "The Dance" by Garth, it's a song that will bring a reaction to both of you, as it has to millions for many, many years, take care .
I love the contrast between these two. One of the best reaction channels.
The live version with the final verse is pretty great. Also, I’ve always thought Thunder Rolls is his best song, has a more serious tone to it.
I am not a big country fan, but he is incredibly talented. You should listen to "The Thunder Rolled."
Glisondo is the word you were looking for.
LOL How about Papa loved Mama? That's a fun (and very short) song.
This song was HUGE when it came out, and still is among country fans. I was never a big fan of country music, but like you, I can appreciate these "anthems" when they come around. Country songs with a similar vibe include Toby Keith's "Red Solo Cup" and Alan Jackson's "Chattahoochee."
My dad was a country music fan, so I grew up hearing the more classic country songs of the 1960s when I would go places with him; there was always a country station playing on his car radio.
Always reminds me of being stuffed in a 5 ton with 30-40 US and Japanese soldiers
beyond drunk signing this
Or jam packed clubs in Seoul.
Garth Brooks music really knows how to touch folk through the fence.
If you want another one that everybody in the bar sings along with, try "You Never Even Call Me By My Name" by David Allan Coe.
He's always a good time
Worked in a bar in the late 80's and eveytime it came on every person always sang the whole song.
Heck yeah!!!
I wanna see them listen to that one. Was my favorite till me and my ex wife made it our song. Ruined it for me after the divorce. So I switched to Charlie Daniels Uneasy Rider. Lol
What a joy watching Lex get into the song... what a classic
Every concert I’ve been to, rock, country or pop, they always cover this song and everyone knows every word. I’m not a huge fan of Garth Brooks, I think he’s over hyped in country compared to some other amazing artists, but he’s got some greats songs. This is definitely one of them.
I think he was big in bringing country main stream/popular. I absolutely dislike country but i know 2 songs by Garth Brooks by heart.
I saw him in concert in 98…I wasn’t a country fan but it was one of the best concerts I’ve been to…
Love Garth!
Where are the bodies Garth???
The families need closure.
My fucking mommies coming through
Keep following proto, touch my camera through the fence
Ayeayeayeeeeee!
@@KrstoSimicevicMIB you know what’s a banana split?
Love watching these two do reactions. Brad is laid back cool and she has a super personality and never fails to make me smile. Doesn't hurt that she's absolutely gorgeous! Said with all due respect Brad.
Garth has a lot of huge hits. He has sold more albums than anyone. If you want to hear a different side of him, listen to “the dance”. My wife died last year and I still cry when I hear it. You two are great!!
When this song came out you absolutely couldn’t get away from it. It was everywhere.
David Allan Coe - You Never Even Call Me By My Name. The greatest country and western song.
...Steve Goodman's [the writer] version is better though.
Concerts are a blast. And now you have dipped your toe. Good luck with this rabbit hole. Keep em comin guys.
I grew up in the 90s Bars of the South! This was a peak and valley of Saturday nights.
You guys need more Garth Brooks! HUGE catalog of massive hits. He had hugeeee concerts and was a great showman.
As someone who grew up in south Louisiana and doesn't mess with county music I will sing this if drunk and this song plays 😂
I'm not a big country fan but I love old Garth Brooks, omg the dance makes me cry every time!!!!
Garth is the #1 selling artist of all times in North America! And his concerts are strait 🔥🔥🔥
I'm from Garth Brooks' hometown and this was a favorite at the skating rink when I was in high school.
I love Lex’s explanation about “shared suffering”. Spot on!
Papa Loved Mama! Great tune... Garth has sooo many great ones! Love your reactions! Keep up the great work!
That shared suffering that we all just have to laugh at ourselves for it... ahahaha! I love that!
Love Garth Brooks! His voice is great! This song is so :Awesome"!
If you like this you might like "Red Solo Cups" unfortunately I am blanking on who sings it ... but I still think you should listen to The Decemberists "The Crane Wife 1,2,&3", "The Infanta", "Yankee Bayonet", or "The Mariner's Revenge Song"
No one ever put on a more lively country concert than Garth Brooks! Check out one of his 80's concerts, you will not be able to stop watching.
Ain't goin down till the sun comes up, another great song by him
