- I broke a bone in my foot and had to stop marathon training. Here's my story and journey of making a comeback faster than doctors said I could. If you're someone who is suffering from shin splints, stress fracture, broken foot, etc maybe you can relate to my story a little bit.

I had two patients with the exact same radial head fracture at the wrist. Same surgery, casting, splinting, and rehab once healed. One of the patients didn’t do anything with the hand when it was in the cast/splint. The other played a lot of video games, which used both hands of course to hold and manipulate the controller. Obviously this was not an experiment, just n=1 cases, however the one who played video games came out of his splint and his initial evaluation of strength and movement was by far the greatest initial evaluation after that specific injury I’ve ever seen. Full range on motion, and strength about half of what would be expected for this individual. Didn’t have much therapy to do, a little bit of strengthening and then good to go. The other had very limited range of motion, scar tissue, swelling and nearly imperceptible measured strength. Needless to say, lots of therapy to break up the scar tissue, improve mobility and strength. Took a super long time. Only significant variable between the two was the one who used the affected hand for a lot of mobility within the surgeons precautions while healing. Found it interesting to say the least
Wow that's amazing! ty for sharing
Pretty amazing Shervin. I broke my ankle and tore a bunch of stuff in there about 7 years ago. I was non-weight bearing for 12 weeks. Learning how to walk again was wild. Got into running about 6 months ago. Racing my first half-marathon next month.
im recovering from a gnarley ankle injury around 1 year ago. This advice is really true of any orthopedic/sports injuries. Blood flow, blood flow, blood flow and mobility! Great Video!
yes blood flow!
Thanks for sharing! I broke my femur in a bicycle crash near Carpinteria in October and finally escaped crutches last week, thank goodness
Back at it! Glad you’re healthy and running again.
Really cool to see the journey coming back from the broken foot. Great job on doing the work to heal it.
Such a great video. Well told and congrats for coming all the way back
It sucks that we have to say "talk to your doctor" because most doctors will treat you like the first ortho. Thanks for sharing and being your own advocate.
Wow congrats man, I was still on crutches 6 weeks after breaking MY TOE. Super impressive man, thanks for explaining how you did it.
Great content as always I just worked my way back from a hernia surgery it stinks being down for the count but so cool to see you get recovered so quickly.
Well done not giving up
LFG 🤘🏼 Stoked for you to throw down in London!
Its insane how much muscle you lose from immobility. I broke my elbow, got surgery, but was in a cast for only 2 weeks. I needed 3 months of PT to just get full range of motion back in my arm. All from 2 weeks of immobility!
I remember 8 years ago, after breaking my foot during my first marathon, I was cleared to start running 7 weeks afterward. I was so scared and the first run felt extremely awkward. Excited to see how much faster and stronger you become!
BROOO!!! You crushed it and this documentation of your healing process is EPIC!
Thanks bro!!
The Shervin timeline is all over the place with this one. Great video tho x
Hey! Video like that, make your channel grow up. Good job 👍
Discipline. Motivation. Mindset! 🔥
Let’s go!!
You already know!
I recently found your channel (today) because I follow Attia, Rhonda Patrick, Humerman, David Maus, etc I watched your Zone 2 training video and then saw you broke your foot. I recently serverly sprained both ankles, broke my left fibula, and a minor rice size fracture in my right foot. I'm only 5 weeks into my injury but I've found things you recommend from your research are also what I'm doing. Movement, flexibility, compression, hot/cold therapy (Been doing icebaths and hottub). I see you have edge labs in your video, I'm currently considering their setup actually! Keep up the great videos and I think I'm going to learn alot of additional ideas to try from you. thanks!
Awesome recovery Shervin! I broke my ankle 6 months ago and really worked hard to rehab it I was doing great but then 5 months after the surgery I got Achilles tendonosis and this has actually been more frustrating for me! Currently still trying to recover from that it’s been about 8 weeks. Do you have any suggestions for Achilles tendon rehabbing? Thanks!
Brother I had surgery last week on my left ankle; torn 7 ligaments on a trail run a few months ago😔. Right now going true the recovery process hopefully I can get back in running 😢
Can i please get a happy birthday from my favorite tech TH-camr
happy birthday!
@@ShervinShares thanks for replying
I’m out for 8 weeks apparently with 12 screws:( I’m on step one reducing swelling, hoping to get into a marathon asap
You should start to do running drills before your runs which will help you with running technique and running economy as well. ;-)
how much did you spend all up on the treatments and consultations?
Also self employed and have shit insurance in nyc haha, great video

How u broke your foot? I see no link on video , no clear description how its happened?
right here: th-cam.com/video/21yETzcRi7A/w-d-xo.html
@@ShervinShares ok , watched it but still not clear...i guess the reason was not the fall itself, but overuse/stress trauma?
@@slavasss2189 i fell off my onewheel and the impact from the fall broke my cuboid bone in my foot
A big heavy guy & in still shots seeming to heel strike hard with lead foot in front of centre line on landing.
cadence too low, stride too long ? 🤔
Are you sure running isn't actually trying to kill you?
Using the word anniversary to mean anything but yearly sounds really dumb
