I always thought that the "if we come from monkeys/apes..." argument was illogical. We come from a common ancestor of those creatures, but not from the modern primates themselves. I always thought that question was as ridiculous as asking, "If I come from my brother, why is my brother still here?" These adaptations can throughout a long period, combined with a lot of mutations eventually cause a species to gain different physical characteristics and a huge difference in genetic sequences between itself and a species with a common ancestor that evolved to fill a different niche or one that evolved to survive in a different habitat. Of course some species are incapable of adapting to changes (like a change in the climate for example) and are thus more likely to die out, because they are incapable of adapting to the changes around them. This is kinda the most basic way of explaining it, considering there are also a lot of other factors involved.
