I’d have to agree with your assessment. We’re in our 60’s. My wife isn’t climbing that ladder, I’m not climbing down 3 times a night or hoping I don’t spill a Gatorade bottle where I’m sleeping. We got away from motor homes years ago for the same reason, packing up your camp to run to town for food, beer and ice or to go explore gets old. You can leave some chairs to mark your spot, but they might disappear. For some reason they won’t disappear if there’s a tent or camper set up nearly as often. We use a Hiker Trailer, or a Gazelle T-4. I really like how quickly the Gazelle sets up, but you have to be cognizant you don’t set it up inside out or break a pole or you can suddenly have no shelter.

Definitely seems like you’ve put lots of thought, and experience into this! I think the biggest thing to consider is whatever works best for your personal situation.

I either use a ground tent or a hammock when camping. When I attend the two day paintball events I enjoy I use a tent that is big enough for a one person cot. I am there all weekend and it gives me a place to change and leave my gear out of sight. When going to the Manistee National Forest I prefer the hammock because it gets me off the ground and it is some of the best sleep I get when camping. Future plans are one of the camper shells from either Snap Outfitters, Go Fast Campers or Super Pacific. One of those will give me a shelter that stays on the truck, but also allows me to use my truck as a truck when I am not camping. For a last minute solo overnight or weekend camping trip I can just toss a bag in the truck and head out. For my paintball events the truck can act as a mobile staging area that will keep my gear out of sight.

I love hammock camping! I did that for years prior to the RTT. I still keep a hammock in my truck just in case I want to do some backpacking

@@Upnorth_overland backpacking is the main use of my hammock. I enjoy doing to occasional overnight hike along the NTC in the Manistee National Forest.

Another great video. I currently use a gazelle tent. Looking to get a new rig next year and then will get a rooftop tent. Thanks for sharing always great to see your videos.
