    Great video for actual pilots (or very dedicated simmers) looking for a quick overview of G1000. I see a few comments about it being too fast- I imagine that’s true if you don’t know what the acronyms mean. But if you know what things mean but just aren’t familiar how to do it on G1000 then this was perfect!

    So, let's say we create a flight plan together with GPS navigation and we choose a LNAV approach. There is an altitude indication marked in purple to the right of the altimeter bar. How do I make sure that the autopilot follows that instruction as per the GPS navigation flight plan? Currently it just appears to the right of the bar, but I cannot force the AP to pick it up as the desired altitude. I have seen it happen before, so anyone that could give a tip would be much appreciated.

    • @keithwalter1241
      @keithwalter1241 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Press the NRST soft key on the PFD. This brings up the nearest page. It will initially show the nearest airports. I think you then turn the Large knob to move between pages. Once on the correct page, press the toggle select button to start the cursor. Once it is blinking, you can use the small or large knob to move between the items on the displayed page ( I don't remember which one). Once the cursor is on the item you wish to select, you can press the DIRECT TO button and it will ask you to activate? Simply press the ENT (Enter) button, and what you selected will now be active.

    The latest Sim update causes me a problem with the G1000 where I cannot PRESS the toggle select button once inside any of the menus for FPL, etc. The newest version allows me to TURN both the inner and outer knobs, but now uses the mouse wheel to turn these CW or CCW. I can PRESS the button, and it DOES turn yellow showing it is acting on my command, but it has no effect. It won't turn on the cursor so I can then enter a waypoint in FPL as an example. Any ideas?

    • @keithwalter1241
      @keithwalter1241 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to tune NAV 1 radio to the ILS frequency, and then press the CDI button on the PFD to bring up the ;green course pointer. The G1000 can display 3 separate courses. Simply press the CDI button to display the one you want. You then need to adjust your course pointer to the correct ILS heading. You can use a website called AIRNAV where all US airport info is available. You can then view airport diagrams, download SIDs, STARs, and ILS or RNAV approaches. Both the Airport diagrams and, RNAVS, and ILS diagrams will show you the correct runway course heading for the approach. Also, if you load and activate an approach in the G1000, eveything will be set for you. (I think)

    Thanks for good tutorial for entering the G1000 data with MSFS. I've been looking for some good info YT vids on the G1000 with MSFS. Kind of disappointed with MSFS and G1000 integration. But what are ya gonna do for 120 bucks? The Garmin Cessna NAVIII trainer on DVD/CD (35.00) is much more accurate. However, it is just a representation of the MFD/PFD but VERY accurate. Just put it in autopilot, set 100 Kts, and you have a poor mans G1000 sim. I have a real T182T with G1000, and before that had a 172 with one of the first G1000's, but have gotten rusty with my age, hence the MSFS for times I don't want to go up but want to review. Some day I'll post a flight with parallel views of A) real thing vs B) MSFS with G1000 and pluses and minuses. The apparent plus with MSFS is great for fun, practice and practice with no huge costs. : )

    Why are you flying through, no pun intended, what is supposed to be a tutorial on learning the G1000? I'm sorry and I don't mean to be negative, but you talk so fast and jump around so quickly that someone who is trying to learn how to operate the G1000 simply cannot follow you. It then becomes just a recital of everything you know, at break neck speed, and not a lesson for those of us wanting to learn the functions and how to implement them. It's a shame because you really do know your subject, but you're lacking on how to communicate it in a way that someone will learn and retain it.
    One of the basic concepts in effective teaching is "Tell them what you'll teach them, teach them, tell them what you taught them". This is how you absorb and retain....by repetition. Don't get me wrong here I appreciate the video, it's great, but learn something about communication and your next one will be fantastic! Try "How to Speak by Patrick Winston" an MIT professor teaching communication here on TH-cam for some ideas.

    • @Kevin-ib4gv
      @Kevin-ib4gv 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you understand communication 101, there are techniques to communicate effectively and things to avoid when attempting to impart knowledge verbally. What you try to avoid is speaking so fast the listener, hearing things for the first time, does not have time to assimilate the information given. Think newscasters. Professionals who speak at the right speed and don't speak so fast you go "what did he say?". I could slow it down, yes, but he could slow it down in the first place so all could follow IF he knew how to communicate effectively. Effective communication is a skill that needs to be learned that many here don't possess. @@marcofeature

    Your narration really really annoys me you talk to fast and the tone is not suitable for radio. and the talk about the Garmin is just ok. You also may want to lose your cynicism.
