    This is the most comprehensive and clear review of the G1000 I have seen. I have been flying with the G1000 for some time, but didn't even know some of the features until I watched this video. Thank you!!

    You should publish a book based on your videos. It will sell like crazy because it will be easier to digest.
    Also it would be very helpful to non pilots who want to fly an airline simulating an actual commercial flight to show a video, or better something in print, to start with an airline flight from takeoff to ILS landing in GREAT detail. Include everything to show what all those buttons and knobs are for.

      Some lessons would be great. When I flew FSX I used; Microsoft Flight Sim for pilots by Jeff Van West. And Flight Sim Navigation by Charles Wood - this is still available on the net, I think there are two versions, the blue margin one is the latest.

      Maybe I listed this elsewhere but I’ll repeat it to ensure it gets to you.
      You seem to be an expert pilot but also an expert in using MSFS. I note you access different views of an airline cockpit rather quickly and it would be helpful to see how you set this up using a keyboard and yoke switch controls. There are many clumsy controls. If you have found a better way, let us know. 14:23

    Slightly daft question. My vision isn’t brilliant and I’m finding it really hard to read the display when I’m flying. I’ve taken to putting it in a separate window so I can read it… but then the controls are very hard to use.
    Is there an easy way to increase the font size on the display, or pop the display and the controls our to a separate display or window?

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @jamieknight326, not a daft question - I'm sure plenty of others have the same question as well.
      I do not know of a way in the GPS settings to change the font size. I also checked the accessibility options in the MSFS menu - but alas, that only affects the font size in the menu and not on the avionics. Unfortunately, I think the font size is hard-coded into each piece of avionics equipment - so I don't think it is adjustable on any unit.
      Probably what you are doing is the best solution without upgrading your monitor. (I will say that I upgraded from a 22" to a 31" monitor about a year ago, and was very impressed at the difference it made in being able to see the screen. So if it's financially feasible, consider that.)

      There is a lot of information to process when learning an avionics system this complex. If it helps, you can probably skip over part 3 and go straight to the NXI vids after part 2. The GPS system is quite a bit different in the NXI, so watching part 3 doesn't do you a lot of good.

      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad you've found the content helpful.
      That green circle is what's called a flight path indicator or flight path vector. It shows the current flight path of the aircraft (vs. the attitude, which can be different.) I discuss it here: th-cam.com/video/bfcIzxmW5ug/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pn2zYFRWR_aai-eQ&t=1334

      @Hyestar, glad you enjoyed the content, and thanks for wathcing.
      Currently, there is not a way to display flap and trim information on the MFD. I believe this is an accurate emulation of how the real life units typically work - which is what working title is going for. With most of the aircraft equipped with the G1000, there is usually a mechanical indication of flap/trim position near the displays (and there may not be a position sensor on those systems) so it is not displayed on the G1000.

    They are almost certainly called soft keys because the function is software (menu) driven. The autopilot keys are also "soft" to the touch but they are a fixed function.

      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  ปีที่แล้ว

      OldRighty1 - Yes, I looked this up a few months after I made the video. Turns out the line select keys on the side of most FMS units are also considered softkeys - and they are usually made of a hard plastic.

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  ปีที่แล้ว

      @JohnVanderbeck ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AlphaHotelFlightSimulation Yeah my comment seems stupid in hindsight lol. I actually did figure that out in the sim, how I could look at the 90 degree left or right mark before my turn and that would show me what the next leg was at. I was not able to adjust the CRS button to change the VOR heading. I realized that I had startup a flight with a departure and arrival, and this automatically populated a flight plan. I had to press soft key 6 (CDI) to toggle they heading display so I could see the CRS heading.

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  ปีที่แล้ว

      @ex5tube - yes, when the CDI is set to GPS course display, it will automatically set the course, and you can't change it. You have to hit the CDI key to change over to VOR mode before you can change the course. It's also worth noting that in MSFS, it will also set the course anytime you are in VOR/LOC mode, and tune in an active Localizer or Localizer type navaid.

    Please forgive me, as I have not browsed all seven videos, I've just watched the first few minutes. Does this tutorial series cover the NXi versions of the G1000?
    Is it best to first learn the basic G1000 functionality, then learn the NXi features?

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ex5tube, with the videos that are out on the NXI, you can skip over the one about the G1000 GPS (video #3 on the old G100) - most of that information has been updated with the NXI series. You can also skip the video on the OBS function, if you're not that interested in that mode.
      Other than that, they were created with the idea of folks watching them in order. The are listed in correct order in this playlist:th-cam.com/play/PL1AlvGUwm14Ao4YOG1MhL2ETj_8U3hpb0.html

Example: I enter EHAM at departure and then press the ENTER key on my keyboard. NOW THE PLANE'S ENGINE STOPS IMMEDIATELY. Is that normal, or is this a bug? Michael from The Netherlands.

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's correct Dustin, the arc mode went away when the NXI came on the scene. You can set up an inset map in the HSI that presents in an arc mode - but the arc is much larger (almost a full compass rose,) and I find it more difficult to read with the map in there.

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation

      @garywiley7886, make sure your CDI displaying GPS data. Use the CDI softkey at the bottom of the PFD. If you have an "empty" vor or Localizer down there, there won't be anything for the system to track.
      If you have GPS data displayed, and it still won't engage, try re-entering the direct, or go direct to the next fix on your flight plan. (You can also just stay on the GPS path using heading mode until the unit sequences to the next fix.)

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Brianh-pr9eg, I'm currently using the Turtle beach Velocity One Flightstick. I got that one primarily because it has two throttle levers - the second of which can be used for prop control or spoiler control, depending on what you're flying. It also has a detent for reverse thrust on jets and tubroprops that makes utilizing reverse very simple.
      I used to use a Thrustmaster T. Flight Hotas, and had that for many years. The only complaints I had with that one was that throttle axix was a little loose, and with the big head, tended to fall to the full forward or aft stops. There was also not an easy way to go into reverse with that one.

      Sounds like the screens may have gotten in the backup mode somehow. Try clicking on the red button at the bottom on the audio panel labled "display backup" and see if that reverts you to normal ops. I was wondering if you could offer advice on how to setup and fly a visual approach to a specific runway in the GTN750?. How to setup the descend and etc. Thank you in advance!

    Could you try a little harder to word your tutorials for NEWCOMERS rather than people who are already semi-technical and know all the purposes of the jargon. The presentation is far too slick and busijnesslike for beginners. Slow down and be a lot more friendly..

      Will do my best, but if I talk much slower, my videos will be 3 hours long! 😄

      @@AlphaHotelFlightSimulation I'm a newcomer, I have little to no issue with this video (by this, I mean it's an absolutely excellent video). I think if you've never been in an airplane it may not be the place to start, but any terms I don't know I can google.

      Imo non-pilots should take the private pilot ground course before getting too much into MSFS, and then all this will make a lot more sense. Teaching the G1000 in addition to basic piloting knowledge/concepts/vocab is unrealistic. Thanks for these videos...

      Hi: I agree with this critical comment. I lke what you are trying to do, but your pointer moves so quickly from poi to point that it is downright impossible to follow. I'm a very senior fellow, and a teacher for about forty years, and think that it would be better if you tried to cover less per session , but more thoroughly. Buttons are all mashed up in my brain! I note that many pilots and ex-pilots have enjoyed the videos, for to them all of these terms are everyday banter. I guess it all boils down to a question of knowing which audience you are trying to help learn this instrument

    "autopilot". Will never understand the purpose of such a thing in a video game. Whole point of paying is to "play". To "fly". Why would anyone want to hit a button to "not play the game"?

      It's a flight simulator

      That's the beauty of both flight and flight simulators. Some people want the joy of flying aircraft with minimal instrumentation visually, and some like the challenge of learning advanced avionics, automation, and aircraft systems. There's room for all of it (both in real life, and in MSFS!)
