Grammy win #1 out of 3. Avi (pronounced Ah-vee) and Kevin were such a dynamic rhythm section. This was filmed in Avi and Kevin's apartment. Avi also helps Kevin with whistle type sounds (electronic sounds) on this one. Really enjoy your reactions to PTX. Looking forward to the next one.
"They earned it" - So true, it always takes me by surprise when people say their singing is "effortless". NOT! These folks practice and study, and learn to stretch their skills to the limit, yet stay connected to one another. That precise timing couldn't happen otherwise. Love your reactive face!
The sign of a true professional is to make it look easy. Also, if a person is struggling to get the sound out, it's heard. So yeah, of course they practice, study and stretch. But by this stage it doesn't require visible effort to get it out. That doesn't mean that the range and technique was there to begin with. It also doesn't mean tons of work wasn't put into it.
I recognize that little smile as you bop your ahead along with the beat - it’s the smile of a proud brother, dad, uncle or grandfather, depending on one’s age. I feel like I want to be their Aunt Pam so I can see them once a year and give each one a big hug and a sincere “Well done, kids. Keep it up.” Peace from Ohio …
yeah a little reverb helps vocals a lot. you don't want it too dry. I imagine the "studio" version uses a few effects to enhance the mix (chorus,eq etc ....nothing like auto tune or any pitch correction stuff but something to help add back to anything bad acoustics, could take away from.
Thanks for the double reaction. I understand why you wanted to see them live, but that private performance seems suddenly performed without preparation and recorded by a smartphone. It is not one I seek out to see again, but the official video is truly great. For a professionally-recorded live performance, I suggest _Hallelujah_ from their Christmas TV special on the American network NBC.
RCA eventually picked PTX up...but...guess who owns RCA? Sony. Sony was the one who dropped them initially. What goes around comes around? I enjoyed your reaction and comparison. I can't imagine doing this "on the fly" like they did in the second performance. I look forward to more of your PTX reactions. Thank you!
Yes this was filmed in Avi & Kevins apartment they shared.... They were always working on honing their craft...and became absolute magicians...I feel they were not always given the same attention as say the trio were....who by the way are brilliant too. Loved that you gave them recognition of their skills...
The live performance is I believe in a hospital room as a Make A Wish Foundation request. Avi was an integral part of the beatboxing as half of the rythmn section. Here is a demonstration Avi and Kevin gave very early on in their career. Sing Strong Festival th-cam.com/video/xnbwR9sIOPI/w-d-xo.html
In the live impromptu performance, i was in awe of just how tight the vocals were (like the timing of that staccato scott/mitch part that simulated a synth sound) but i could still pick up the bass and perc -- mindblowing -- and yeah that cam with one mic wasn't gonna do it justice like a live with proper mic balance. Still, it showcases all of their talent and hard work they put into this medley. Great reaction.
I think the live was done for the VIP performance at one of their shows or a Make a Wish performance, I can't remember which. Recorded with a potato that didn't pick up Avi's bass or Kevin's beatboxing very well. Great reaction! Thanks for the double! To hear what Avi's been doing recently, check out All is Well, or On My way, or First Place I Go. There's a ton of solo stuff from all the members and no one will be mad if you go down those rabbit holes either! lol Thanks again! 💚💚
I agree about the bass and beatboxing being the highlight of the song. What's funny is in the private performance, the bass and beatboxing didn't have microphones of some sort. It would have had more of an effect on the performance, in my opinion. The voices carry so much more than the low frequency of Avi and all of Kevin's special sounds. The voices were outstanding, I just wish those two would have had some sort of help getting their amazing sounds to show up better. Still love the performance! It really shows what they can do! Thank you so much for reacting to both of these together! Thank you to Lexy Mitch for her suggestions to you!
Totally agree. Of course, the audio recording doesn't really deliver the real live experience. That's what the art of mixing is about. Capturing a live Sound in a recording. But still loved to see it and hear them nailing this one
BEEN waiting for this reaction!! Soon as I saw you drop the video 10 minutes ago, I grabbed my headphones!! Kevin and Avi are amazing in this cover! BTW…please don’t hesitate to back up and listen again, we love it! ❤️🔥❤️🔥🥰🥰🥳😃 Much 💜 from Louisiana 🇺🇸 Edit- I’ve come back to watch this reaction over 8 times now in the last 12 hours 😜
Kevin and Avi killed it, of course they were all awesome. Your reaction was spot on, thanks ❤ i think if Kevins microphone was turned up where you could hear him during the live version it would be 🥰
Fun Fact l have seen in another reactions to this video; the video company hired to to make this video pulled out at last minute so 2 of them (Avi & Kevin (?)) made this video, they filmed it in a closet and edited it in the kitchen and did it for only US$400. This group has some insane skills.
Great reaction and I agree with you. The private performance Is good but the mix is really off since Avi and Kevin aren’t mic’d. That’s why their live evolutions are so good. Still 1-take live performances but beatbox and bass are sitting right in front of the mics. Makes a big difference I think. Vocals killed in this performance, as always. 👍🏻
You should definitely check out bohemian Rhapsody next, I think you would really love it. Another of my personal favorites is Wizard of Ahhhs, really amazing
I've always thought the beatboxing was just outstanding on this one, but also on a number of others...Kevin would be my favorite if I were to choose favorites.
Pssst! Hello. My name is GiGi and I’m a card carrying PENTAHOLIC ❤️. Have you heard/seen Bohemian Rhapsody? Awesome! Amazing Grace🙏🏽 The Prayer🙏🏽 All worthy. See ya.
I've heard some mixing, and a couple times some autotune on their official video's, that they wouldn't have in this situation. But with this specific performance, I really don't think mixing has anything to do with it. You've got it in your head that everybody has to have mixing so to you that's automatically the problem, even if it's not. The only problem with the beatboxing and bass is they both needed a microphone to get loud enough to be heard over the other singers. I'm talking a microphone that goes to the controller, then the speaker nothing else.. That's really all this needed. They have the talent to not need all that fancy stuff. That stuff is nice, and can help even the best performance, and as said I know there are times they will use some. But, unlike you I am able to accept that when they say they don't typically put out anything they copy exactly when live, that is what they mean. Just because you can't hear the beatboxing doesn't mean he's not doing just as good as the official video, just that without a microphone, and being recorded on a cellphone which has a terrible microphone to start with, your just not going to be able to hear it as well, he can only get so loud with that stuff. I've seen a lot of react-ors that believe like you do. I will just continue to do what I've always done, downvote, and move on, and never waste my time again.
You obviously have absolutely no clue, what mixing means. Mixing does not automatically include autotune or any Manipulation of the voices. Mixing is about balancing the volumes and capturing the Sound of a live performance into a recording. So, what you said about the amplification is right and 100% the same thing, that I mean by mixing. If you want to critic me, then at least critic me for something I really said and not for the things in your head. I even said in the video, that I can see that they are absolutely able to do it live. If you still hear, I think they are using autotune, then you got no idea about the terminoligy or Sound engeneering/music recording. Farewell ✌
Can you please react to 👉the lady of heaven trailer? The movie was shown in AMC Theaters in the US and it had a very long and successful run there. The next move is for it to be shown in Fiji, which is located in the South Pacific Ocean on April 21st and in Canada on April 29th and in Ireland and Northern Ireland on the same day as Canada’s and in Australia at a later date. After the theater deals are finished it will have a worldwide release via movie streaming platforms ❤️❤️

They did it in concert, too, with mics its more balanced but still live. It's just amazing how good they can sound just standing there!

Imagine them singing this live at NPR Tiny Desk with the high-level live mixing engineers at that location. It would sound incredible.
