    Call the game Bento! If you have japanese food it can all fit in a Bento Box, and it gives you more options to add mechanics around fitting your characters in a bento box when you choose them for example

      Bento is a great alternative name! And an idea I may have already had on my list ;) There's a story element I am toying with which could include more bento related events (whether or not it makes it into the game, who knows!)

    Really loving how the game is shaping up! I think a good addition would be a health bar icon ✨ Ofc trying to keep the game with as little HUD as possible is a great idea, but if you are going to be investing into death animations for the poor rice ball, a health bar or way to show they are getting weaker is a good idea.
    Both Visually and Graphically, since Obakenori loses rice on hit, maybe a good way to show his weakening health is to actually show the rice being hit off / removed, since it splashes on the ground, removing parts of rice from his model is a great way to do this! Changing his facial animations to more sad or worrisome the lower he gets is a good idea.
    As an example... let's say he's able to take three hits, at full he's his classic onigiri form, but upon being attacked the top part of the rice balls falls off and his facial expression changes subtly. In terms of how he'd be able to regenerate or heal, it could be gradual, potentially if he's around his rice particles when they fall off, they linger for a moment and float back on (would be difficult to implement) or maybe a bag of rice he could hop into from above, and the bag would split open as he flows out fully healed. (Just some ideas)

      Oooo I LOVE the idea of some of the rice chopping away as he's getting hit, definitely going to look into that! That would be a good way to keep the UI fairly clear as well. I could also have it so the player can choose if they want a HUD or not 🤔

    You have made some great additions since the last video.
    I like the rice coming off the hero when hit but I think there is too much coming off.
    When the villains get hit perhaps add a flash of red over them quickly to indicate the hit.
    I'm not sure if it is just me, but when the hero hits the boxes there seems to be a slight delay before their animation starts. I'd shorten that gap.
    I love the pea shooter. Great idea. I don't mind the idea that the ammo isn't always going to be available. Why not have the ability to drop that and store the crab claw on your back?
    I can't remember of the hero shoots snowball like things - like to open doors etc. If not, rice balls would be great to see. Perhaps if they are the heroes primary weapon the strength/impact isn't as strong as the pea shooter.
    Not to go crazy on the weapons but perhaps a bow and arrow made out of celery or something and toothpick arrows. Maybe? Dunno. The toothpicks can be stored on the heroes back. Or it might be easier to use the toothpicks as spears.
    Another fun weapon could be a Salmon. It could be used to slap the enemies around.
    Well done, its coming along.

      I'm thinking of ways to have all items collected somehow on Obakenori, watch this space 👀
      The rice balls are going to be a rare ability, as losing too much rice is a problem for our little Onigiri 🍙

    I like the look of the Edamame shell on the character's back. It reminds me of Splatoon's ink tank which shows the level of ink that the player has, even when they aren't submerged. I definitely like it more as diegetic UI instead of an actual piece of UI.

      Thank you! 🫛🍙 I completely agree, the challenge comes if/when I want the player to have more than 3 pieces of ammo 😅

      I agree, but from the fotage shown I feel is still a bit difficult to see the remaining edemames (maybe making the think slighly more open would already fix the issue.

    Oh and, for the pea shooter thing (sorry if thats not what its called) you should grab ammo from pea bushes or trees or whatever they grow on

      Love that idea! I need to make sure the player has access to collect more at some point in every level, some puzzles will require using them 🫛🍙

    Just came across this channel and I really like the character model for the player. I hope I don't overstep my bounds, but it seems people are giving ideas, & you are cool with receiving them =).
    The edamame shell is great! I love the visual of it. It allows ranged play, but also forces you to use the stick to attack. The issue would be balancing the pick ups to refill your edamame in an area with enemies or boss. Maybe that's a difficulty setting thing though & not as pressing up front. On the other hand, if you need them in a level for puzzle solving then you can have a respawn area near by.
    Idea 1:
    Power-up/ability system: This can be accessible as you progress in the game & allow areas that youve already been in to open up more, & they allow for multi-layered puzzling which is always fun.
    Ex: "power up called sushi-roll". At certain spots, turns into a sushi-roll and rolls fast in a direction, maybe breaking a wall, or going up a very steep curved wall to gain access somewhere, etc.
    *there are a ton you can create & it just helps make the puzzles better & discovery better. Was always cool finding these in games.
    Pro: The feel of your game is nice. I felt a unique style when I watched the first video I found of yours. I love the "black bunny flower pots" enemies & gives me a ghibli studio feel. The first enemy was nice too. Felt like it fit this unique world. And instead of just playing on bento box stuff, you created something wonderful with your creative ideas & it made me want to instantly see more of what is to find in the world.
    Con: Note: Please don't take it harshly, just my take & its more for your growth vs me beating you down. Feel free to point out any issues I say at any time.
    There really is only one con so far. The Chef. While he looks awesome, he doesnt seem to fit the world I've seen in your videos so far. I do not know the story or plot, or ideas you have coming, so maybe he will fit more.
    ( I think its good to give a sense of direction on fixing a con instead of just stating the con) Previous video I saw you make some awesome looking enemies (see the "pro" section) & i think you could do the same for the chef. Now whether thats a rice version of an orc or something else, that is where you take over =)
    Keep going and Ill keep watching. Your world really has me drawn in.

      There will for sure be some more power ups as you progress through the game. Not sure how many yet as I'm trying to keep the scope under control!
      The Chef will come into his own once I start adding in the proper animations and give him a bit of character :D I have some fun things in store for him!

    Let’s gooooo! So sorry for not reacting to this earlier 😢. Got some few things to say 😎
    Never expected the chef to be an ogre! It really fits with the theme of Obakenori, aswell as his personality (brute looking but softie). He looks AWESOME. I also really like the edemame’s ammo mechanic, and how the sushi stick points towards the enemy youre targetting. I think keeping UI off the screen is a good choice, cause having a bunch of UI really annoys me in games! Perhaps at the bottom left of the screeen though, there could be a small UI showing your HP. I’ve noticed it takes 3 hits to be killed, so maybe it could be a number instead of a HP bar? Just like in the game ‘Cuphead’ (you might know it cause it’s an indie game and you like indie games 😂). I saw some sneaks on the melee system from your shorts. It’s awesome! 🎉🎉🎉. The glitches you show are super funny 😂😂😂. Also it’s nice seeing your France trip! I hope you had fun 😎😊!!! Anyways that’s alll i got to say (usually I have a bunch of feedback cause this game is SO COOL 😂 👌) but I’ve seen most of these sneaks. Keep continuing to grow Obakenori!!!

      Thank you! Some more fine tuning will be needed but I'm loving how he turned out so far! Deffo need a health bar, or show chunks of Obakenori missing perhaps :P

    The game looks good. I would like to give an advice. The animation of the chef is very repetitive and annoying. I think you can fix this. But you must have already thought about this
