Thank you both for the video. I have a question if you don't mind. What time are you allowed to disembark? Can you leave on your own or does it have to be a group event Lol. Big thank you to the star of the video Hans.

This is super helpful! We live in Germany and plan to move back to Canada in the next three years and our two dogs will be seniors by then, and are generally worried about their safety on a flight. While this doesn’t sound ideal, it sounds a little better than flying (a flight would be to western Canada). Thanks!!

Thanks for sharing. We’re glad it was helpful! Considering pet transport can be stressful. Wish there were better options. But at least you can give them medicine and hug them on the cruise. Safe travels!

It is disappointing that the conditions were not so good on the Ship. I feel that if Cunard management knew of your valuable feedback they would endeavor to rectify the poor conditions. There is no excuse for what your dog experienced. The loneliness, however, during the night on the ship for your dog is a more difficult issue to resolve. I can only feel for the unfortunate little animals.

Hi, thank you for your Video!! I have a few questions and maybe you are willing to answer them 😊 1. Why was Hans not able to fly "downstairs" in the regular plane? I totally understand why you would never send him to the States all by himself but wat was the reason for you decision to ditch the normal flight? 2. Who fed the dogs? 3. Where you allowed to stay there 4h straight or was there a timelimit.
After a year of travelling with Cunard... would you still do it again?
Thank you so much for sharing this experience with us ❤🐾🐕

Hi Katharin, thanks for being here! Good questions. At the time we were traveling back to the US, Hans wasn't allowed to fly due to covid-19 era policies. We definitely tried but it wasn't an option with the airlines that fly direct to Chicago. We didn't want to put Hans through a connecting flight.
The dog handlers fed the dogs but all dog owners elected to be present at feeding time. We all gave the dog handlers our dog's food when we got on the boat, some who had booked the cruise earlier were provided the dog food because they ordered ahead. It wasn't totally clear to us if Hans' food had made it in time to be ordered so we brought his food just in case (good thing!)
Visiting hours were from 9a.m.- 11:30am. Then 2p.m.-8p.m. (Can't remember exactly) We ate dinner consistently around 8 p.m. when visiting hours ended. Honestly all owners were there during all visiting hours (except one couple who brought their dog walker on the cruise) Otherwise the poor dogs stay in the crate ALL DAY! I am sure the handlers would likely take them out once or twice for potty if no one visited them but not for any longer than 5-10 min.
Also the poor pups went from 8 p.m.-9 a.m. without a potty break! (no visiting hours or handler potty break.) We all definitely came to visiting hours in the morning to find "accidents/diarrhea". Some owners got the idea to use the special medication exception at 11 p.m. to give their pups one last potty break.
It was our only/best option to get us all home and we got lucky to get last minute reservations with a dog! So all things considered we would most likely do it again. But otherwise, we and most of the other medium/big dog owners we spoke with, would not put their pup through it again.
That being said, there was an older couple with a mini schnauzer who had traveled on the Cunard 9+ times and enjoyed it.
We didn't have time to enjoy it. Our priority was to keep Hans exercised and healthy as possible. I don't know an active medium sized dog that can go seven days without consistent exercise and not have health or behavior issues. But if that's not a problem, I'd say go for it! At least you get to hug and kiss your pup every day!

Hi! Our best advice would be to research the laws from the county you are visiting. The official travel advisory website should list the specific requirements you need to show for your pets. We also found a veterinarian who was familiar with travel for pets which helped us double check our research! For the cruise, we ended up calling the cruise line to make the booking with our dog. It’s time consuming and very stressful but it will be worth it in the end. Stay organized and have positive thoughts! Our tip is to bring more paperwork on your pet’s vaccinations than you think you need!
