I've never gotten anything close to 276 miles of range at 70 mph in my 2020 Model Y Long Range (dual motor). 3.85 mi/kWh? I get more like 2.4. Not complaining. What I have done when I wanted to drive routes where there are no Superchargers, is I slow down to about 50, pull out of everyone else's way, and turn off the AC (this was in the Navajo/Hopi Nation on a 100°F(38C) day.) Instead of arriving (or not) at Holbrook, AZ with -15 miles of range, I got there with +15 mile of range. I charged up, then unplugged and crawled in the back for a very comfortable night. Better than any hotel or motel, unless you want a shower. No one gives a Tesla parked near a Supercharger a second look. The other thing to consider is ideally you only charge up to 80% and don't go below 20%, but I regularly go to 15%. So right there you're only using 60% of the potential battery charge. For my desert run I did charge in Blandings, Utah to 99 or 100%. What's really neat is that by the second year the battery will have lost about 2% of it's capacity. This will be the biggest drop over the lifetime of your Tesla. I didn't and you won't even notice. After that it's pretty consistent. There are 2012 Model Ss with 300,000 miles on them, original battery. And Supercharger stops are a chance to relax. I'll sometimes go for a 150kW charging location instead of the faster 250kW so I can take a nap, or go to a store. For my 2020 Model Y LR that I paid $70k for I paid this year for registration $650. (I guess I'm paying more because of my orginal purchase price.) These fees should be included in range cost calculations because gas prices including road taxes include them. It wouldn't matter to me if they came out close or my Tesla cost me more, it's such an amazing car that it'd be worth it.

I live in a condo and it will be a couple of years before they can install EV charging. Since March I supercharge. I live in Phoenix and now that it is cooler I’m able to charge once a week and in summer I need to twice a week still cheaper than my Corolla. I supercharge in the early morning where it is only .23 / kWh. In winter I charge from 30 - 85 percent costs about 9.30 and in summer usually between 10 & 20 percent to 85. No big deal for me. I’m used to it now.
Fuel cost per mile ...... Of course EV is cheaper than you Corolla .... typically EV is 60 to 70 miles per gallon , Corolla is 36 to 42 miles per gallon.
@@ganeshdore Even on a per kWh basis it's cheaper. We pay A$0.69/kWh (US$0.40/kWh) for Supercharging and we pay A$1.55/L (so about US$4/Gal) on a cheap day (our fuel prices fluctuate weekly in cycles) so, even on the cheapest of fuel days the most expensive supercharging smashes the cost of petrol. It's a no-brainer.
Tesla cars are not made to order. They keep the costs down by only having a few options on the cars. Once you order you are then allocated a car matching your required specs, which has already been manufactured. If you order a spec and there is no more cars to be allocated you then join the que for that spec, so as they roll of the production line they are allocated in order of the que.
Yeah, mine was on the boat from Shanghai when i got allocated a VIN, there were several black interior, quicksilver SRs on that boat by the looks of it because a couple of others on the TMC forums who also ordered the same spec also got theirs allocated whilst on the ship.
@ See I was thinking about the cybertruck as well! My garage is just too small for it haha. I love the model x!!!! Prices right now to me are just unbeatable
Good recap Ryan. For a simplified comparison to gas, for an efficient EV like a Model 3, I take the all in $/kW (total electric bill $ with taxes, fuel and transmission surcharges, etc.) and take that x10 to compare to local gas $. For example we are around 11 cents/kWh all in rn in KS (allot of wind power). That compares roughly to $1.10/gal gas.
@@chrisbrzon3917 3 miles per KWH is correct. In Calif , Home charging is 25c a KWH off peak . ( some places 36c a KWH at home ) Thus energy cost of EV is 8.3 Cents a mile...to 12c a mile. Calif gas is $3.75 a gallon. 30 mpg Corolla equals 12.5 cents a mile.... Downtown SanFrancisco ..15 cents a mile at $4.50 a gallon. This is how you do the math. And this is why Hybrids are still popular,
FSD should be part of user profile upgrade and access to it on any Tesla vehicle like if I borrow my friends Tesla then when I log in into my user profile, I get to use my FSD
@@ColtonBlumhagen Maybe have a "temporary login" duration, like 24 hours or until they log out of the profile kind of thing and have a two-verification kind of thing going on 🤷🏾♂️ could be interesting to do. The cost of both electricity and gas in your area makes moving make sense. Less than $3 per gallon here, and regular electricity is .12 cents kwh. Off peak EV charging rate for home is .03 cents kwh. Also the 80% suoercharging rule is plenty in California. California has 3 times the land area as Georgia, but about 15 times the supercharger stations. We have large swaths of land with no superchargers, especially in the southern portion of the state. It's all getting there though.
I really like my 2023 Moel Y LR dual motor because it still has the Stalks behind the steering wheel for gear shifting, turn signals, etc. The newer Tesla's do not have these Stalks anymore. I guess it is what ever we get used to. Thanks for the video. Take care.
Taking delivery of a model y this week. Looked into Tesla insurance vs my current provider and Tesla was $299 for the first month. Not sure how much it changes month to month but that first month was too high
In New Jersey NJM is the cheapest with mine, im paying $140/month. I used to be with Progressive n the rate was ridiculous to $400+/ month n that beingwith progressive for around 20 yrs.
Every time I thought the deals can’t get better, prices and offers continue to drop. Because of this I’ve never pulled the trigger. With the ev credit most likely going away I’m definitely keeping a close eye this December on model 3.
WOW Your gas is over $5 a gallon ? here where I live in Eastern Tennessee USA Its only $2.55 a gallon .My minimum state required insurance here where I live is only $180 a year ,that also covers my E Bike 🙂
If you live in a state where Tesla can't have dealerships like Texas remember you will have to pay tax when you register the car. That was about $3,500 for me so plan ahead so you have the money available. When I got my loan that amount was not included like it would have been at a dealership. However, Tesla did send me all the paperwork mostly already filled out so the process was quick and easy and I walked out of the county tax office with my license plates in hand. Took about 15 minutes with an appointment in Denton county.
I think this is now included on Tesla's website as 'non-Tesla fees'. Registration, operating permit fee, state safety inspection and sales tax. Total is around 3200 for a LR RWD.
Thank you for the information, video, and the effort you put into your channel! What do I do with my current car if I buy a Tesla? Does Tesla take trade-ins at the time of sale / delivery?
Not quite ready to pull the plug on getting a new car yet. Hopefully if/when the tax credit goes away, they adjust the price down to match, so it's actually competitive with regular gas car prices.
17:25 - Well, obviously a really big factor is what insurance coverage you choose (liability especially). Their rates also seem to vary with how many miles you drive per month.
Many homes have both natural gas and electric outlets for a clothes dryer. Switching to a natural gas dryer could be the cheapest way to convert to electric car charging.
Or you could get a load-splitng double-adaptor for a NEMA14-50 plug, they can sense how much power is being drawn through each leg of the splitter and prioritise one leg over the other.
FSD has to be babysat too often in my area to be useful. long highway runs , it's pretty good other than freaking out when someone is on the on ramp slightly in front of you but you have much more speed. mine slams on brakes for a car when it should have just maintained is course and speed . and lack of ability to single tap for normal cruise when using FSD , is stupid. not sure why this is a thing. single tap should always be available for standard cruise.....double tap for AP/FSD.
The problem with that math is that your are charging beyond 80% and draining the battery below 20%. This is expressly against the owners manual instructions. If you read your OM, you can only use 60% of the battery for driving. Charging over 80% shortens the battery life. Draining the battery beyond 20% shortens the battery life. So in reality you can only drive about 180 miles of average driving before you need to recharge. I see video after video of folks overcharging and over discharging the battery. Claiming long ranges without a clue that they are wearing the battery out. Considering the cost of a battery replacement, you'd think common sense would apply but sadly most are clueless or don't care.
Before i bought my Tesla model Y 18 months ago i wish i knew Tesla was going to devalue it by 50%! I paid just shy of $60,000 for my model Y in April 2022. Today, even though it is in like new condition with 27,000 miles, i remind you only 18 months old, the resale value is now half the purchase price!!! Only $28,000!!! I was going to buy a Cybertruck to replace my diesel truck BUT NOT NOW! I'll wait 18 months to buy A USED Cybertruck at HALF PRICE!!!
If you're going to keep the car to drive for around 5 years, it doesn't matter if it devalues or not, it doesn't change the quality of the vehicle you got. I can buy a piece of bread for $5 today and next week it's gonna be $2. But it's still bread the value doesn't change what it is. If you do plan on selling the car after 5 years it's not going to make that much of a difference between an undervalued tesla vs regular used value anyways, difference is just a few thousand dollars off
@@Jake-dh9qk Sorry, my 2019 RAM 3500 cost $65k and I can sell it today for, wait, $65K!!! Fact is Tesla's depreciate faster than any other car on the market today. Why? Because Tesla does not want competition for new car sales? Or? Lets focus on the facts, not conjecture. Why did my car lose half its value in 18 months? Like new condition on any gas vehicle in today' market simply does not lose that much value in such a short period of time. Why? Logical answers only please.
I’m still waiting on non foundation in Canada any guess for when that will happen based of the USA timeline? Fingers crossed on some upgrades between now and then
Very impressed with FSD just test on curvy mountain roads in NORCAL. Slowed for sharp curves, even drove down my private dirt road about a mile to house.
I'm not a fan of the 2025 having a major difference in early vs late models. In the very near future you'll have to be able to distinguish between a non juniper and juniper car. Would have been better to do a clean break between years.
"Fees" are just taxes, politicians use this manipulative term to hide the outrageous taxes they've saddled us with at every turn. California of all places should make buying an EV as smooth as possible, raking in up to $600 in registration taxes is nuts.
I mean, the guys who are stamping your paperwork, entering the car into the registration database, pressing/stamping your license plates, moving the plates to the DMV, building the roads, etc, all need to get paid, hence why it costs so much.
The supercharger says 250kwh but I've only ever gotten 70max. Does this cost more the slower it charges since the price is per min and is slower you'd need more time and cost more money?
@@Shmack_ What state of charge was your pack in at the time? If you're only getting 70kW it's most likely because you're likely at a high state of charge (i'm guessing at around 50-70% or so by the looks of things) 250kW is the maximum discharge rate for Long Range cars. Standard Range cars top out at 175kW. Both will generally hold that for about the first 7-10% of the charge. They'll gradually ramp down when the pack gets fuller. 70kW at say, 50-70% is about right for the charging curve. The other cause could be because you arrived at a supercharger without navigating to it. I know, sounds weird, but navigating to a supercharger on the MCU (the screen in front of you) causes the car to enter a pre-conditioning mode, where it gets the battery to the temperature it likes to be in to charge. If you forget to do this, especially on a cold day, the car will siphon off some the power from the charger to heat the pack up to the right temperature. The battery usually likes to sit at between 40-45Deg C (about 80-100 Deg F or so) when DC fast charging, so if the pack is too cold, it'll heat it up at the charger. If you're going to a Supercharger, even if you know where the charger is, it's always a good idea to navigate to it to get the battery ready to go.
@@thepokerpilotapp the price cap is 80k for pickup trucks. The reason is due to the submission from Tesla to the IRS. I would appear Tesla did not anticipate the production to move so rapidly to Non Foundation Serices.

THIS PERSON KEEPS SAYING THAT THE SELF DRIVE SYSTEM " IS NOT PERFECT " THAT IS EXTREMELY WORRYING!!! THATS DEFINITELY NOT A ANSWER I NEEDED TO HEAR !!! I WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE BUYING ANY TESLA VEHICLE!!! 🤨👎👎👎.
Alan, nothing like this is never perfect. One can have a so-called ideal definition of a “perfect” system, but more often than not that exists in one’s mind but not in reality. Every mechanical and electrical device will eventually fail, and one modeled after human behaviors can eventually encounter some random variation or circumstance that is not well modeled or never been seen,(like being hit by a meteorite.) So, the real question to ask is what is the probability of FSD crashing and you dying or being injured or just damaging the car compared to the average person. If it is better, (fewer of those outcomes) then you’re better off with FSD. Then you might factor in the convenience or value of being driven by someone or something, which is a separate personal choice.😢
What I wanted to know before? If I was going to stuff the pockets of a freeloading idiot who’s main goal is to make employees’ lives miserable. Seriously, don’t go work there, you’ll give the best of your talents, time and energy, to be discarded as junk on a random day. Not.a.single.penny
“Every single Tesla model has basic autopilot.” Wrong. Current Non Foundation series Cybertruck does NOT have basic Autopilot. After 1 month free FSD trial, these NFS Cybertruck owners will only have cruise control.
I promise you if I ever buy a Tesla the very first question I'm going to ask is does it have FSD, if they say yes, my next response will be rip it out I don't care if I got to pay to get it gone, if they say no, congratulations you've lost the sale.
I'll take it even further, can I get a cyber truck without drive by wire and some normal door handles on it please, in case you're wondering I do in fact like analog features better than all this technological add-ons, well we're at it, can I get some manual crank Windows please, and i am not 70 or 80 years old... I turn 40 tomorrow, yes i would love to get an EV but no one make's one that I'd like to have or can afford }:/
Most people with a home can survive charging an EV with a standard 120v outlet, especially if driving only 40 or 50 miles, or less per day. Using a 240 volt dryer outlet in the garage can work. Find a competent handyman to install a 240v outlet or power supply next to the electric panel if it's located in the garage.
@@dvader3263 I don't have a charger at my home and honestly i do just fine. I use a 240V 10A EVSE to do topups from 90-100% and supercharge most of the time.

Then on receiving the model Y I had a number of things that need to be corrected.

Thank you for this information. I am going to purchase a Model 3 or Y for my daughter in the near future.
The math is ~335 Wh/mi , so 1 kWh lasts ~ 3 miles. A comparable gas car runs 30 mpg. 30/3 ~ 10 x factor electricity $/kWh to $/gal. equivalent.
@@chrisbrzon3917 3 miles per KWH is correct.
In Calif , Home charging is 25c a KWH off peak . ( some places 36c a KWH at home )
Thus energy cost of EV is 8.3 Cents a mile...to 12c a mile.
That is a slippery slope IMO.
@@ColtonBlumhagen Maybe have a "temporary login" duration, like 24 hours or until they log out of the profile kind of thing and have a two-verification kind of thing going on 🤷🏾♂️ could be interesting to do. But I can see how that could be slippery, somebody knows the password but then then again with that two-verification. Guess it depends how the profile was set up
The cost of both electricity and gas in your area makes moving make sense.

Take care.
tesla insurance was $140 vs geico cheapest that was $220-$240
I pay $90 a month for full coverage on my model Y.
Taking delivery of a model y this week. Looked into Tesla insurance vs my current provider and Tesla was $299 for the first month. Not sure how much it changes month to month but that first month was too high
In Nova Scotia, my revivifier just got a quote of $82/month CAD for a 2025 Model 3… vs $200/month for a new Honda Civic that costs $20,000 less!❤
In New Jersey NJM is the cheapest with mine, im paying $140/month. I used to be with Progressive n the rate was ridiculous to $400+/ month n that beingwith progressive for around 20 yrs.

Thank you for all the insights Mr. Ryan!
Every time I thought the deals can’t get better, prices and offers continue to drop. Because of this I’ve never pulled the trigger. With the ev credit most likely going away I’m definitely keeping a close eye this December on model 3.
Same. I keep refreshing the inventory page lol
Tax for registration? Is this like an additional EV registration tax in Texas?
I think this is now included on Tesla's website as 'non-Tesla fees'. Registration, operating permit fee, state safety inspection and sales tax. Total is around 3200 for a LR RWD.
It was like that last year, now sales tax is paid before delivery so there’s no surprises later
@ No that’s one time sales tax. They also give you your plates when it’s a new car or out of state. The yearly registration is $275 for an EV.
That’s exactly why I created an LLC in Montana. I registered in Montana and drive in Texas.
That's a good idea, if the dryer is in the garage.
Newer homes usually have their dryers inside the living space.
Or you could get a load-splitng double-adaptor for a NEMA14-50 plug, they can sense how much power is being drawn through each leg of the splitter and prioritise one leg over the other.
Thanks for this great info!
Very well done. Recommend for anyone interested in a Tesla.
Is it still $1000 off for referrals? Thought they reduced to $509
3 & Y are $500. S & X are $1000 I believe.
Do you think a used Tesla's price may drop in Dec/Jan time frame or are prices as good as they are going to get?
December yes but not January
Varies by vehicle. My Unrefreshed Ys will stay a bargain
@ no it’s not a bargain
I get +5% range compared to rated on my 2020 Tesla model Y
Polestar is also offering 0% finance on their entire range (3 EVs) here in the UK.
Do u think used Tesla would go up in value if and when the 7500 rebate goes away?
Definitely not
Before i bought my Tesla model Y 18 months ago i wish i knew Tesla was going to devalue it by 50%!
Unless you’re going to trade every year, it doesn’t really matter this thing’s gonna last close to half 1,000,000 miles
If you're going to keep the car to drive for around 5 years, it doesn't matter if it devalues or not, it doesn't change the quality of the vehicle you got. I can buy a piece of bread for $5 today and next week it's gonna be $2. But it's still bread the value doesn't change what it is. If you do plan on selling the car after 5 years it's not going to make that much of a difference between an undervalued tesla vs regular used value anyways, difference is just a few thousand dollars off
April ‘25, Model Y price will double…
@@Jake-dh9qk Sorry, my 2019 RAM 3500 cost $65k and I can sell it today for, wait, $65K!!! Fact is Tesla's depreciate faster than any other car on the market today. Why? Tesla should add SOFT Closing Doors
No thank you. Everyone hates soft closing doors.
Doc fees for ice cars range from 500 to 900 in most states, total rip off !

Apparently, you don’t know what you’re talking about
Be nice. I think he honestly doesn’t know.
It should be apparent since I was asking a question. Enlighten me
@@Shmack_ no it doesn’t cost more when it charges slower and you need more time
@@Shmack_ What state of charge was your pack in at the time? If you're only getting 70kW it's most likely because you're likely at a high state of charge (i'm guessing at around 50-70% or so by the looks of things)
250kW is the maximum discharge rate for Long Range cars.
Why Cyber truck doesn't get full $7500 tax credit
I think it applies to vehicles under a certain price, like 50k.
Are you that broke to take taxpayers money??
@@thepokerpilotapp the price cap is 80k for pickup trucks. The reason is due to the submission from Tesla to the IRS. I would appear Tesla did not anticipate the production to move so rapidly to Non Foundation Serices.
@@edmondovIt's your own money. People who pay Federal income taxes, get some of their hard earned money back in the form of a $7,500 tax credit.
People making $150,000 per year might pay $30,000 or more in income taxes.
A $299,000 wage earning couple might pay $75,000 per year in income taxes.
Is it better that the Government decides how to spend that $7,500 of your hard earned income?
FSD will always be risky given Tesla only uses cameras. LiDAR should be included when the vehicle's cameras can't "see" everything.

Tesla will not scale as well as people think because too many people cannot charge at home
Most people with a home can survive charging an EV with a standard 120v outlet, especially if driving only 40 or 50 miles, or less per day.
