Modern Macedonians were invented by the Comintern in 1934 The language was invented in 1944-5 . There is no evidence for any Macedonian language before Tito,. People would have said they either spoke Serbian or Bulgarian.

I left a comment on your other video, but again, I'm a Bulgarian trying to see the other side in good faith. I was able to fully understand you speaking Macedonian, except for the bitola dialect part :D
And the main separation between our two languages is, as you said, the fact that modern Bulgarian is based on the eastern dialects. I'm from Varna and I have never had problems writing and reading correctly, while some people from Sofia struggle to this day with their dialect. So in that sense, if the Bulgarian language was codified with Macedonian in mind, I think they could have evolved into a single language very easily, although it would probably be harder to read and write. A recent linguistics video I watched about the English language and why it is so convoluted to read and write said basically that it's because of the vast amount of dialects that make it impossible to make an inclusive language reform.
As for the debate if Macedonian is a language or a dialect, there is no codification as to what separates the two so I always defend Macedonian as a language.

    • @marioshistorytalks
      @marioshistorytalks  ปีที่แล้ว +6

Appreciate that brother! And no one is saying the two languages aren’t very close, but there were definitely differences large enough to cause tension in the early 1800s when Bulgarian was codified without the use of Macedonian dialects. I personally can speak neither Bulgarian nor Serbian, but can read Bulgarian just fine, though I can understand spoken Serbian easier. Goes to towards the whole idea that Macedonians is in the continuum between the two languages, as is Torlak

Fantastic work, Mario. Over 5,000 views (on your way to 6,000) in less than 24 hours! Thank you to our neighbours to the east and to the south for their contributions. I know some of you are hanging on each day for the release of each new video, and a handful of you keep regularly returning to past videos while you wait - and keep adding comments. That’s so cool! (Yes, you’ve been caught out!) I can visualise one in particular who is surely scratching his head right now, whilst consulting his neogreek propaganda pages, attempting to formulate a response to this video.
Mario, I hope further down the track you can make a video on those three oldest (known) recorded folk songs you mention because I’ve always said our folk songs, of which there are well over 5,000 recorded, are a record of our history, as well as bringing so much joy to Macedonians and the world, and bringing us together as a people.
Oh, and thank you Mr Tito for your special powers and your magic wand....or was it a time machine?

Better you stay out of the EU so you can have a North Korean historiography. BTW - the Macedonist Flat Earther UMD congressional resolution has stalled because those who stand for the truth have sent actual proof and evidence to every single member of Congress that these dead "Macedonians" you are trying to honor are actually proud Bulgarians. Cmon Mario....why not get on a video with Kiril from Samuels Fortress or Bobby??? Yea, I don't think so...Meto is smart enough to keep you away. A bunch of amateurs - the lot of you.

I wish I could thank the Roman Vicar, Sylvester (Sylvestri?) [Macedonian Lexicon of the 16th Century - Giannelli and Vaillant] for preserving the Kosturkso vocabulary. It is fortunate that this document has been preserved because so many Macedonian documents and books have been destroyed - by order of the powers that be at the time.
Having grown up in the diaspora in Australia, I have not been formally educated in my mother tongue but after my visits to my ancestral village, I can vouch that this is exactly how the Kostursko dialect is spoken by the elders there. I did not have to strain once to pick up what you were reading. My family uses the word gluvec for mouse (plural gluvci) and I particularly like the word for ‘little mouse’ which I find really cute - gluvce.
And your reading of p93 of the ABECEDAR was music to my ears. Every word as clear and exact as my grandparents speak it. I guess I’m more fluent than I give myself credit for, at least in terms of local dialect.

The video is understandable to all Macedonians and people from surrounding countries. However, today we need to present the documents and facts about our history and language on a way which the worldwide corrupt politicians can easily understand without giving them an option to misuse them.

-Many of the Macedonian language words are bound with toponyms, for example:
Кутлеш or Kuт (Kuti, Kutija, Kutivce,) = Box, + Леш (Lesh) = corpse/dead body meaning
    -Box with a Corpse,
    -Костур, (Kostur) = Sceleton
    -Драма (Drama) = Drama
-Кожани (Kozha) = Skin refering to the Skin people
-Воден (Voden, Voda,Vodneni) = Water, Wet The Wet ones
-Вардар Var Вар/Варовник (камен) LIme/Limestone + Дaр Dar = gift, most likely refering to the Limestones as a gift that were transported from the Quarries in the Polog region and other regions that the stone was beeing excavated to be used in the Ancient Buildings in the Agean or it could just reffer to as "White Gift" because the primary color beeing used even today in Macedoniaor in Greece is white color using Lime to paint the walls and it is called Varosuva ili Beli Ќе варосуваш, Ќе Белиш, the earliest found source is from the 2nd century and that does not corespond to the teory that was named after the Gothic word Vordoi because that was in the 5th century, and it is highly unlikely that comes from the Tracian word Vardar that means Black water unless it is adopted by the Greek word Mavrovopol that means Black town or Црно Поле Crno Pole Mavrovo in Macedonian
-I would also like to put Виница Vinica meaning Wine town,
-maybe Кочани (Kocan(студ), Ukocen, Vkocaniet) = Cold, Stiff, Stiff body from Cold, i am mentioning this because Kochani is a Geothermal region with extremly high temp at 82 degrees celsius and open Geysers in the past , very high compared to any other place in the balkans and have confirmed Ancient Hot Springs and very interestingly two villages have the name Banja that is the village Banja near Kocani and IstiBanja near Vinica that means Spa and acording to the old traditions when you have cold in your bones you need to bath in hot water to get the cold out
there are many more but maybe for the next time
Also i would like to put here the scentences
"Брат со брата очи си ваде" or
"Македонците си ги ископаа очите едни со други"
    "не си ги вадете очите"
    "си ги извадоа очите"
    "Брза кучка, слепи кучиња раѓа"
"Брат за брата, сирење за пари."
"За светот кој плачи, без очи ќе остани."
"Кој со ѓаолот, тикви сади, ѓаолот на крај очите му ги вади"
if this are not related to Tsar Samoil and Basil II than i dont know what is
and one more saying as last
"Ако се сториш овца, секој ќе те стрижи."

And on the forced Bulgarisation of those Vlachs , which lived there long before bulgars, and whose assimilated traditions they use to claim even Thracian heritage,
( it is said by the surviving Romanian comunity of Vidin that right after the Romanian army fought to eliberate bulgaria in 1878 the Bulgarians pushed a very harsh assimilation process where burning romanian Books or even Bibles or throwing them in the Danube was a common practice)

Raul You are making some alarming statements but then again, a Bulgarian nationalist recently wrote that Romania is really Bulgarian so perhaps you are equal. Stuff and nonsense.
If you want to talk about "forced Bulgarisation of those Vlachs", you've got the wrong country - you need to talk to Bulgaria. While you're at it, you might have a word with Greece about all the Vlachs who today are "Greeker than the Greeks."
The Vlachs in Macedonia are respected, recognised and free to identify as they wish and many choose to identify as Macedonian. Famous singer, Tose, loved Macedonia like a pure Macedonian and one of the most famous, Pitu Guli, immortalised in the Macedonian national anthem, fought bravely for Macedonia.

Who are the brothers Milonov Mario??

  • @SimonTAMG
    @SimonTAMG 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

The Macedonian brothers Cyril and Methodius - who were born in Solun and came from very well-respected families which is well documented, had created the “new” Macedonian alphabet which was based on the Macedonian language and dialect in the country that they were born in, so Solun (Thessalonica) clearly is in no possible way shape or form “Greek”, and it is that same language and alphabet (with slight district dialects) that is used extensively all over eastern Europe! They’re all quite happy to say that they (the brothers) were Greeks, but they didn’t go and spend decades forming and creating an alphabet, or using the language that the Greeks currently do and then spreading it all over now did they? No, it was Macedonian.
They’re quite happy to say that "slavs" invaded us - yet somehow, it’s “our” language and alphabet that is used and was then spread to “those” lands many centuries later. They also can’t turn around now and say that the brothers were Bulgarian - not limited to the fact that there was no Bulgaria back then as it was only first conceived in 1870, and the fact that they were born in Solun (Thessalonica), so which is it then?
Can’t be Greeks as they didn’t spread that language did they?
Can’t be Bulgarians being born in Solun (Thessalonica) can they so there’s the trump card - They were Macedonian and recognised as Macedonians way back in the 9th Century, even gaining permission and allowed after hundreds of years of Roman rule where Latin was the Lingua Franca to conduct the Holy Liturgy services in Rome mind you in the Macedonian language in 867!
It was directly reflected in Macedonia where the legacy of the Cyril and Methodius literary and linguistic work was incorporated into the activity of their most prominent disciples Clement and Naum, who during the last decades of the 9th century and the beginning of the 10th century developed comprehensive spiritual, cultural and educational activity in their native country Macedonia. Funny that! I believe because O Armatalos was written in Katharevousa, artificial sociolect than resembles Ancient Greek(purist, formal Greek). It was characterised by limited vocabulary compared to the vernacular Greek. It was easy for Grigor Prlichev to write poetry in the purist Katharevousa because of its limited vocabulary.

Funny how some data is presented partially to create some sort of illusion. No matter that the language in the lexicon by Gianelli is labelled 'Bulgarian', let's go right ahead and label it 'Macedonian' even though the lexicon is about words used in the geographic region of Macedonia... All this exercise proves, is how close Macedonian and Bulgarian languages are...
Another example is Krste Misirkov. He was indeed born in Pella, a region where Greeks and Slavs were intermixed during the Ottoman period. However, why omit things that Misirkov said? In 1924, when Misirkov is no longer under Russian sponsorship, he becomes adamant about the Bulgarian identity of Slavs in the Macedonian region. I can post quotes, but I am sure you are aware of them....
Videos like these are just proof of how difficult it is for modern ethnic Macedonians to trace back their history just a few eons from today. And how could they, when their ethnogenesis began in the late 19th century? Which further poses the question how can they really link themselves to ancient Macedonia when they can hardly convince the academia beyond the late 19th century, let alone beyond medieval times?

    • @mellake7052
      @mellake7052 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@Dimitris Mythos Funny how some [Bavarian Greek] illusions are partially presented as fact….
No matter that “Greek”, right up to the creation of Bavarian Greece in the ancient 1830s, was called Roman, as were the people, both by others and as self-identification. I guess that makes dimi an Italian - if we apply dimi logic.
Macedonian and Bulgarian are similar? Moot point. That’s how the language continuum works in all language groups (except for Greek and Albanian for some weird reason), including the Germanic and Romance languages. The Swedes, Danes and Norwegians have almost identical languages but they are civilised peoples and do not resort to petty and moronic attacks and dummy-spitting over such a non-issue as some people do. Bulgarian is also similar to Serbian and Serbian is almost identical to Croatian. Again, applying dimi logic, I guess that makes those people Bulgarian…or does it make Bulgarians Serbs or Croats? Hmm, what a conundrum.
What your collection of out-of-context and carefully selected quotations from Misirkov don’t include, and I’m sure are not aware of them (because no paranoid obsessive _Roman_ sorry Greco would include them in their propaganda pages) is missing: *“There is a Macedonian culture and Macedonian national history, distinct from those of the Serbs and Bulgarians, even though they have so far not been the object of extensive and impartial study: the Serbs and Bulgarians have one-sidedly and with a strong bias chosen from Macedonian culture what glorifies their own national name.” - Krste Misirkov, 1924*
Or would you nationalist Romans prefer: “What is most essential for us is internal unity, mutual unity in Macedonia, we do not need Serbs, Bulgarians or Greeks, *for we are none of these;* we do not need Patriarchists, or Exarchists because we are only Orthodox Christians.”- Krste Misirkov, On Macedonian Matters, 1903
Or: “Oh, Macedonians! It is time we realized that the *greatest demon* Macedonia must battle against is none other than Bulgaria; and this is why we must keep our interests apart from those of Bulgaria. Common sense demands it”. - Krste Misirkov
      Russia and Misirkov you say?
In his excellent paper, M.Karadji, Greek academic (of the decent human being variety) describes how in 1844, Russian researcher V. Grigorovich observed the situation in Macedonia and wrote: “In all the areas I visited I heard no names but those of Alexander the Great and Marko Kralevich. They both live in the national memory as figures of general significance.” Karadjis elaborates: “Now, of course, Greek nationalists complain that Alexander the Great was ‘Greek’ and so how dare ‘Slavic’ people now living in Macedonia claim his heritage. But this is the point, unless we consider all these people in the areas visited by Grigorovich to be part of a sinister anti-Greek plot: the fact that these Slavic speakers identified with Alexander, a great ‘Macedonian’, is *evidence that they viewed themselves as distinct from Bulgarians* and had a kind of consciousness based on the history of the area they lived in.”
Well before Misirkov. Well before Tito.
Or would you prefer Greek quotations?
In your, um, collection, do you have the quotations from _Roman_ Greek hero, Pavlos Melas, where he refers to the Macedonian language as……………drum roll…………………….‘Macedonian’?
I guess you discard these. So, well before the Macedonian language became codified, _Romans_ knew of the Macedonian language and called it such. In a letter to his wife, Melas wrote: “...Kottas *spoke in Macedonian.* The teacher got the children to sing something. We couldn't tell if the language was *Macedonian* or Greek. All the schoolchildren know how to read and write (Greek), but hardly any know how to speak it...*I learnt a few Macedonian words...”* (Melas, Natalia, Pavlos Melas, Athens 1964, pp 239, 241, 244).
They didn’t teach you this in propaganda/how-to-hate-all-your-neighbours class?
If the Macedonians considered themselves ‘Bulgarian’ in the ethnic sense, don’t you suppose they would be fighting to unite with Bulgaria? After all, they would have become bigger and stronger and would more easily have freed themselves of the Ottomans, and also lived more secure lives. Instead, they resisted all attempts to force them to join with Bulgaria, many losing their lives for doing so (by the Bulgarians). But then again, all their neighbours tried the same.
And when did your ethnogenesis begin, dimi? You think a handful of decades has any significance in tens of thousands of years of human history? Only a few decades separate the creation of Greece and all the other nations. At least Macedonians struggled for their ethnogenesis, which was made all the harder because they were the last to free themselves of the Ottoman yoke, resulting in them being surrounded by vultures in every direction - which, in effect, makes it more authentic. Your ethnogenesis, in contrast, was created for you by western powers, right down to writing the script for how to be an ancient hellene and how to discard your Albanian/Slavic/Vlach/Turkish names and adopt names which hadn’t been heard since antiquity. You funny bunny, you!
As for linking ourselves to ancient Macedonia, firstly, how do you Christian Albanians, Vlachs, Turks and more recently, the Christian Turks and Armenians resettled in Northern Greece, link yourselves to the ancient city states (remembering there was no Greece then, nor had you Albanians, Vlachs, Turks, etc made an appearance in antiquity.)
But more importantly, remember that endearing quotation you sent me on another video of Mario’s on the topic of DNA (as if DNA determines ethnicity) and which obviously made your chest puff up…well you missed the part where the company iGENEA mentions that these “Slavs” of Macedonia, [you love that word, “Slav”, don’t you dimi!] "mingled with the ancient Macedonians"! [And then they became one!] So there’s your answer to the link to ancient Macedonia. And you provided it all by yourself! Good one, champ! We should present you with some poppies now - if you know what I mean. (You’ve been surprisingly silent there.)

@@mellake7052 You are not fighting me, but the academia. You guys typically call it “Greek and Bulgarian propaganda” in an effort to marginalize what is generally accepted by the academic community all over the world. So go ahead and use the comment section of TH-cam, we all know most of it is nonsense.
This is what you guys are good at: writing sheets of text to cloud the issue. But let me be brief:
Misirkov: you said "What your collection of out-of-context and carefully selected quotations from Misirkov..." even though I didn't quote anything from Misirkov!!! And then you proceed spewing quotes from 1924 and before even though I said "In 1924, when Misirkov is no longer under Russian sponsorship, he becomes adamant about the Bulgarian identity of Slavs in the Macedonian region". But this is how you folks twist reality.
Pavlos Melas was born after the ethnogenesis of ethnic Macedonians, so whatever he said wouldn't contradict the academic narrative of late 19th c ethnogenesis of ethnic Macedonians.
iGenea: The whole quote is this "This is where the ancestors of today's Macedonians, the South Slavic migrants, *who came there in the 6th and 7th century AD* as land-taking farmers, found a home. The Slavs mingled with the local population, which consisted of paions (protobulgarian tribes from Paionia), ancient Macedonians and other ethnic elements". Two things of notice: 1) You ARRIVED 1000 years after Alexander the Great died. 2) You mixed with descendants of ancient Macedonians (ofc southern North Macedonia has Heraclea Lyncestis), but MOSTLY Paeonians. But you didn't chose to call yourselves as the Paeonians... ;) Not so glorious... But in any case, as you agreed elsewhere, DNA doesn't define ethnicities, so based on the above, you still have the AUDACITY to claim ancient Macedonian heritage when all archaeological evidence points to their Greekness.
Finally, your quote "propaganda/how-to-hate-all-your-neighbours class" fits you perfectly when you amount Greeks to "Christian Albanians, Vlachs, Turks and more recently, the Christian Turks and Armenians", when the existence of Greeks back then, who even spoke Greek, is so readily proven.
Next time you continue being insulting, I will start talking about Monkeydonians and Serbianized Bulgarians. And brother I can really pour it on. But for now enjoy this guy who realized he was on the wrong.

@@my8osprive I didn’t say you quoted anything from Misirkov!!! (Look, we’re so excited, we’re getting into multiple exclamation marks!) YOU mentioned Misirkov, STATING YOU CAN POST QUOTES and I replied that they surely would not include the ones I posted. Ged it? And the Russians documented existence of a Macedonian consciousness well before Misirkov so your accusations of Russian influence on him hold no water.
Now we come to the funniest part. Melas (who was not the only Greek to refer to Macedonians and to their language as ‘Macedonian’) was born after the ethnogenesis of the ethnic Macedonians, yet after this acknowledgement, successive Greek governments (much later followed by the chanting of millions of well-trained parrots) claimed there is no such thing as either a Macedonian or a Macedonian language. When you were trying to ethnically cleanse the Macedonians, the Macedonian language became “Voulgarika” (by mutual agreement with Bulgaria to suit the political purposes of both parties, as (Greek) Professor Michalopoulos has described). How can that be? An existing language, called “Macedonia language” even by its enemies, suddenly ceases to exist. In fact, it now never existed at all. How can it be that when the ethnogenesis had started, ‘Macedonian’ was accepted but when it was well on its way, it no longer was? Smells of ulterior motives. (We know what they are.) Now, I know Greece attempted the most horrific ethnic cleansing on the indigenous Macedonians and have tried, unsuccessfully, to wipe out their language, but the very fact that it was commonly called Macedonian by Greeks is proof of your (country’s) backtracking and backflipping. Nothing your country has tried to extinguish anything Macedonian has worked (though you have done much horrific damage). In fact, you have (inadvertently, of course) made us stronger.
Another laughable absurdity - this time about Paeonians. So we mixed “mostly” with Paeonians did we? I didn’t know the ancient sex police kept track of this. Would you please produce the statistics? And even if this was true (as ridiculous as your imagined claim is), so what? Does the mixing of the Arvanites (Albanians) with the Greeks or the Vlachs for example or the hellenised Turks who have resided in Morea (modern day Greece) for centuries make them any less Greek? More importantly, the bulk of the Macedonian people (until fairly recently) populated South Macedonia which today finds itself within Greek borders. The people here ‘mingled’ (produced families and babies and communities) and evolved into modern Macedonians. They are the same people as those over the border in the Republic of Macedonia - the supposed and apparently pure Paeonians. It’s sheer stupidity to think that people remained frozen in place. Greeks settled in Asia Minor and Africa but Macedonians couldn’t possibly have ventured as far as Paeonia. Your thought process is a case study! btw Misirkov was born in the Aegean part of Macedonia (not Paeonia) as were most Macedonian heroes.
The existence of an ancient Greek *language* has survived, and that, mainly through the church. Reviving an ancient language amongst the common folk millennium later and having all those Albanians, Vlachs, Turks, etc who arrived 1,000+ years or more later than Alex learn to speak it, does not equate to continuity. And anyone can learn to speak Greek, dimi. Just like the Christians Turks and Armenians when they first arrived and the state hastily arranged language classes for them. Just like over 50% of the older generation of Macedonians can speak Greek as well as Macedonian. You still get offended when it is pointed out that the majority of the population of Morea (which became “Greece” by western powers) was mostly Christian Albanians (commonly known as Arvanites in Greece) followed by “Slavs” Turks, Vlachs and Roma and then some, and numerous sources have documented it INCLUDING GREEK ACADEMIA and you accuse me of racism for quoting them. (huh?) And they arrived more than 1,000+ years later and you have the AUDACITY to claim unbroken and pure connection.
As for your final paragraph, you are beyond contempt matey. You are seriously in need of help. Whilst Emmanuel Rhoides (a Greek!) wrote that “Greece suffers from the Greeks", sadly, dimi suffers from dimitris mythos and his delusions that others are stealing from him something he never owned

Bulgar peasant, Wallachian shepherd.” “Class-conscious Slavic peasants applied the term “Greek” to most merchants, particularly if they considered them rogues.” “Western travellers to Macedonian quickly realised that the term “Bulgarian” was locally used to describe poor peasant Slavs.”
“When the Macedonian peasant uses the term Bulgar, they mean by it 1) people of a simple and hard working-life, 2) the bulk of simple labourers who speak Slavic, in contrast to the non-Slavs, the Greeks and the Turks, who are above this majority and consider them inferior. The first meaning is the main one: the word “Bulgar” denotes in the first case, a simple mode of life, work and thought.”
V Gounaris: “In broad term, every transhumant shepherd was thought to be a “Vlach”. Just as merchants were invariably called, or perceived, as “Greeks”, and peasants were “Bulgarians.”
