This helps me a lot, so apparently there was a little piece of paper in the front where the ink goes under the metal tab, it was causing the paper to not feed through and hits the print head causing a paper jam. Opening up the side panel was tough, but your video helped me out, I really had to pry it open and use tweezers to take the paper left in it at the time of the Jam. Thanks for your help!🙏👍🏻
Great video! One problem...the carriage is locked to the right with the cartridge's locked in! How can I move it to the left to remove the print head? Will not come out the right side. Also, when trying to push the carriage to the left it if bumping against something solid! Bout ready to toss it! Thanks!
thank you for your video. The cartridges are stuck...how did you take out the printhead carriage? I have the side panel off as you demonstrated in the video. Thank you!
Reach in to the printer and push the ink cartridges in to the printhead. One or more cartridges popped out and is not letting the carriage unit to move.
i thought this video might help me resolve the exact same issue I'm having with my HP model 6968 printer, but the outside shell/case on my unit is solid all the way around. No access to just the right side where the ink carriage sits and gets held up. Not comfortable trying to figure out how to remove the entire outer shell. Printer worked great for 2-years, then stopped working overnight. False paper jam message, then an error code 0x610004a appears after you hit "OK" about clearing any paper jam. Contacted HP support, they were of no help whatsoever. Contacted two local computer/printer repair shops and neither one wanted to look at it. There is a tray underneath the carriage that moves forward and backward. If I turn two white plastic gears on the right side of the ink carriage I can get the tray to move back and it frees the ink carriage to move as normal. When I power the printer back on, the carriage moves across the rod a couple times then goes to "rest" on the right side. That tray underneath the carriage moves forward and then the carriage gets held up and the "paper jam" message appears. After clearing the message an error "0x610004a" appears and it states to contact HP support.
It is not hard to get inside the printer to check for misplaced parts or foreign objects inside. Video link below how to get inside. Check to make sure the ink gunk under carriage does not interfere and cause error. Also, check clear timing strip in the back of the ink carrier to make sure it is clean and clean it if its dirty. Be very gentle with it. Here's the link to Disassembly of HP 6978: m.th-cam.com/video/Ao-_iasByZ8/w-d-xo.html
@@303electronics Thanks, I found that video a couple of days ago. It is helpful for showing how to access the inside of the unit. I am sure the "ink tray" underneath the ink carriage is what is holding the carriage from moving properly. I don't know if that tray can be ordered/replaced or how it would be done. It seems to move on some type of notched belt. I can get the tray to move out of the way and free the carriage, but when the unit is powered back on, that tray repositions underneath the ink carriage and then the carriage gets held up on it.
Please help, I have a 8610 with a pump error and I need to remove the side panel. Problem is that I don’t know how to unhook the screen to take it off and there are more screws in there holding the side panel on. EDIT: Nevermind, I finally got it off by putting a thick hex bar behind the arm and using as a grip to pull forward. Popped right off
Hello, I have an 8610 with a false paper jam error which is causing the printhead to be stuck. Do you have any suggestions? I can't find anything out of order.
Hi. Check the back of the printer by removing the duplexes unit and looking inside the printer, there can be just a piece of small torn off paper, also check the timing strip to make sure it is clean and in place. It is the clear film in the back of the carriage unit. Shine sone light to the right and left of the inside 9f the printer. There can be something stuck far left or far right.
@@303electronics Thanks. I still don't see anything wrong. This machine was working perfectly fine until I decided to replace the magenta cartridge. Now there's a false paper jam and the printhead won't cycle back and forth. I don't understand why this would have happened. Can I do a hard reset somehow to try to clear the memory?
@@mhess427 It happened to me too .Because I forgot to lower the gray level before I turn it back on and got head jam warning. Even I corrected it later. The issue was solved by entering service mode to do partial reset and it works.
Hello, I have an 8610 with the carriage stuck on the right side. It is not the ink cartridges' fault. I removed all panels and I do not see any visible parts blocking it to move freely (as you pushed with your finger in your video - at minute 3). Do you have any hints that could help me? The front panel displays an error code x'068CC413'. It was working perfectly until I replaced all cartridges. Then, it locked.
I am having the same issue. I will try to remove the side panel and see if releasing the carriage and reinstalling it resloves the problem. Otherwise I am going to replace the printer and trash this one.
@@TLeschar Hello Trevor, I have removed all panels and the ink Cartridges. Still, the carriage assembly is stuck on the far right side. I will trash this printer. Unfortunately, HP services and support in the US is a piece of garbage. I will no longer purchase HP printers and avoid any HP products.
I have an HP 8710. Recently the Cyan cartridge popped out causing the carriage to jam on the right side. I was able to push the cartridge back in and that freed up the carriage. But the cartridge kept wanting to pop out. After a few attempts, I got the cartridge to stay in. The printer is working again. Can anyone tell me why a cartridge would just pop out on its own? And if it continues to happen, is there a fix?
I haven't had that issue unless the printer was moved or dropped for whatever reason. The other reason may be a faulty or damaged cartridge. After you replace the cartridge, see if it happens again. If not, for sure it is the cartridge.
A few things to check. 1. Make sure the timing strip, a clear film strip on the back of the carriage, is in place on not ripped. 2. Shine light at timing strip and make sure it is clean. Sometimes grease or ink can get on strip and cause carriage to lose course. 3. Use flashlight to make sure there is nothing in the way of carrier motion, such as stuck paper at one wall of the printer or in the carrier rest mechanism. Please let me know how that goes
I would just try replacing cartridges for now. Use remqnugactired ink to save money since you are debating on fixing it or not anyway. I do not know of another fix when it does that. Usually air in inknor printhead passages causes printer to do that.

Minute 3:28, i need the gear shown. do you know where i can get one? I have an 8720.
if the print carriage is jammed on the right side the gear in minute 3:28 is broken, i have this issue and i am not able to find a replacement gear

You just open right side cover and push the metal button blow the shaft. It will release the carriage.

As size of (manual) screwdriver, how long does the blade has to be of the Torx 10?
The t10 tip that I use us about 3 inches long.
So I found the problem with my 8610 to be the pump/motor constantly running even when the unit is asleep. Is it worth trying to fix?

how do you get the cover off an 8620 hp
I haven't done 8720 yet. I'm sorry. I will try to find one and take apart
This is useless…. There is no way to unlock it by hand?!
