    OMGosh and holy crap! I fixed my own doggone printer, whoo-hoo!!!! That little black gear was cracked (hard to see the crack), but I had another junk model of my HP 6500 and got the gear out of it and presto, it worked. I was nervous about putting everything back together properly, but the printer carriage did it's back and forth thing several times, self adjusting I guess and then ziiinngg! it printed out a document that had been sitting in que. Genius! thanks for saving me having to go buy a whole new printer!!

    Thanks for making the video. I was successful repairing my printer thanks to you. I did put the pieces back together on the printer separately and had no trouble getting the gear to slide on without much pressure. Also, there was a small groove the mechanism needed to slide into for the proper functioning to occur. Something different machines, like mine had.

    Thank you so much for this fix. Couldn't figure out why the paper try pickup gear assembly was stuck in the up position - it wasn't being driven because of the cracked gear. The problem is with the design. That 15T gear is the driving gear - should be metal not plastic. The shaft actually has to friction fit to it adding to the stress on it.

    • @IsInteresting
      @IsInteresting  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good comments. Not sure if the gear was plastic due to cost savings or made to give out under stress as it might have caused further damage if it was made of metal and didn't give out so easily. I think it was probably cost was the main reason.

    The black gear carrier should not be rocking back and forth. At its lower right corner is a finger that slides in a stationary U-shaped guide just below the white gear. You need to align the finger with the guide (use a good light to see it) and push the gear further onto the shaft, until a short length of shaft (1/32 inch, 1 mm) protrudes from the gear carrier. That will position the new gear in the center of the teeth (knurling) on the shaft.

    I had to buy a new printer because of this, saying that hp printers have always let me down. The one I had to replace was only a year old as well (pretty sure I had only printed 60 or so pages), not to mention the hp ink cartridge dry up immediately. Laser printer all the way boys and girls. Still, thank you for the video.

    on my printer the black housing that holds the 15 t gear and the the lower gear that rolls the white gear is broke. can you buy that part? i have no idea what is call but i will call the gear housing. i probably would need the whole part

    • @IsInteresting
      @IsInteresting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi I am thinking you are talking about the triangular black piece that holds all the gears together. I really don't know the name either for this and did a search for it before, to no avail. I just call it the gear assembly. The lower gear that turns the white gear, you can count the teeth on it and do a search for it. Ie. If you counted 10 teeth look for a 10T gear of some sort that looks similar. In other comments I suggested repairing the gear assembly by using metal twist ties since you may need to disassemble it in the future. If the extent of the damage is severe you may try using hot glue and carefully attaching everything back together. However this would be a permanent fix and you can't disassemble it in the future. Remember these are only suggestions and you fix it at your own risk. Thanks for your comments.

    Thanks for this video - On the metal rod there are teeth, should the replacement cog/gear have teeth on the inside circle? It doesn't look like your original or replacement cog/gear had teeth on the inside circle. I have taken my cog/gear off and like you it has a hairline crack but it looks like it may have had teeth on the inside circle but they may have stripped off almost totally or could it be there were'nt any but the metal bar has made an impression on it and kind of cut teeth into it? The replacement ones don't look like they have teeth inside them so I am a bit confused. Should it be a friction fit or teeth interlocking between the metal rod and the replacement cog. Thanks for any advice you can give.

    • @IsInteresting
      @IsInteresting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your question 👍. It really helps the community out as it may answer the same questions others may have. The gears have no teeth in the inner ring. It works mainly by having a snug fit. The teeth on the rod seems more to give it a snug fit and prevent it from just spinning on the rod. I am thinking it is built that way as to not be so secure that it will snap parts if something gets stuck. It is secure enough to turn though. If you don't want to miss any of my future content please consider subscribing. All the best!

      @@IsInteresting Just to let you know I have now received my spare part and although it was a fraction smaller than the original cog it slid on the rod easily, a little too easily I thought initially, but I fired up the printer and it worked straight away and now I have my printer back working. One tip for any one reading this, to make it easier to see if the metal rod and white cog are turning I put a line on their sides with a permanent marker, then as they spin you can easily see the line spinning round, it can be quite tricky depending on the lighting to see if they are turning or not. More so the silver rod.
      Thanks again for the video upload, it daved me chucking away a perfectly good printer for the sake of less than £3 spent on parts. I now have a load of spare cogs should it break again!

      If the gear is still quite stuck on the axel, check to see if the gear is actually slipping on the axel. Iook to see if the axel turns but the gears don't move. Sometimes it is only the white gear that is stuck. I have another video about it. th-cam.com/video/OpjZ6WyJfmA/w-d-xo.html
      If your gear is actually cracked it will be very easy to pull the gear mechanism out or it will fall out on its own.

    It seems that I broke the plastic clip at the top of the triangular mechanism that holds the cracked black cogwheel. I still have the metal clip. Do I need to now replace the whole triangular piece? If so, do you know what that part is called? Do you have a link? If I reorder will it contain the black wheel or do I still need to order. I appreciate your help.

    • @IsInteresting
      @IsInteresting  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi sorry to hear that the piece is broken. I looked around on the net. The gear is readily available but the gear assembly is not. I have some suggestions but I have not tried them myself and you fix and use my suggestions at your own risk. I would try a twist tie to see if you can tie the plastic pieces back together. You can also try a drop of hot glue to see if you can imbed the part that broke in the hot glue and let it cool in a cap of plastic glue to keep it together. It will take some skillful gluing and molding on your part. Finally you can try a small rubber band to tie the piece together but since the rubber band may degrade over time it is not recommended. Mention how this helps you out. Also I have seen different assemblies for different printers so hard to recommend a part even if I can find the assembly. Thanks

      One last thing if you glue it back, remember you may need to prey it open again in the future if the gear breaks again. So I think a twist tie is best. All the best on your repair. Thanks for using my link to order.

      Thanks for mentioning. What that tells me is that the gear is not fitting properly on the axel. For me the gear fits very snugly that you can see in the video I am trying hard to put it on. Is the axel on your printer too small, is it dirty etc. Does the gear fit too easily and loose? You may want to try and clean the axel a bit as it may fit better. Not sure what other solutions there might be to get that gear to fit more snugly. You can try another gear in your 5 pack as another one might fit better. Thanks for your comment.

      Let me take a look and see where the gears can go. I may need to make a diagram as I would need to take the whole assembly apart. Maybe I can get some old video footage. For now for the video I remember that the thinner 15Teeth gear goes on the shaft and there was a smaller but wider 8teeth gear below that connects it to the main gear which is outside the assembly. The main gear is white and moves the carriage return. I hope this helps but thanks for the video ideas. Maybe I can make a video soon for you. Remember you fix at your own risk. Thanks
