For anyone reading this, the guy did not adjust the recommended screwdriver in his description like he said he was going to do to one of the other commenters. The T8 Torx Security Screwdriver is not the correct one so do not buy it. As many have said below, it is T6. Hope you read this before buying like I did.

The correct screwdriver size is a T6 Torx, which is the same one provided for a Ring Doorbell. Unfortunately, this did not fix my printer. I appreciate the video, though.

I have two HP 8610 printers. I had one show up with the missing or not detected printhead. I've used it a LOT and could understand if a part was worn out. However, the second is a bit newer and not used as much. It was my son's from his time in college. When he moved out he didn't need it so left it for us to use. I plugged it in to have a working printer and a couple of months later it has the same issue. I'm wondering if this is a fault from an upgrade? I cleaned the printhead and did some reset I found. It worked for a few prints and then failed again. I even bought a new printhead and tried it but it would not detect on either printer. Somethings not right here. :-(
I keep forgetting to call HP to grill them about a possible issue with an update.

My print head and cartridges went bad long ago, but since I only use my 8600 to scan to my computer and fax it did not matter. A few days ago the fax would dial, but would never connect. After testing I determined that the telephone line itself was OK, but whenever I plugged the line into the 8600, the line was "in use" just like I left a phone receiver off the cradle somewhere. I could input a fax number and it dials, but never connects to the receiving fax. I progressively went through all three types of resets. When I tried a factory reset, I now get only a cartridge error and then a setup tutorial that keeps repeating. Is there any way to breathe life back into it to just have scan and fax available without buying a new print head and cartridges?

The ink carriage is stuck on the right side, any clues? I process to a reset just before and the error i get is my yellow cartdrige is defective but im guessing is the ink system since the cartdrige is new. But i can't move the carriage manually?

I just fixed my Officejet 8620 all in one by following directions to reset the printer I located on TH-cam. Printer head error cleared up and printed in color /be with no problems. I agree with a previous poster. This printer error message is bullshit and intended to encourage you to run out and buy a brand new printer. Will NEVER buy an HP product again !

I ordered a T8 and T10 torx screwdriver from Amazon. Neither fit the small screws but they did fit the larger ones next to the smaller ones. Strange. Anyone have this same issue? I needed the screwdrivers anyway so no big deal.

    • @jporter504

It's a T6. Fix did not work but well worth the try. HP is quickly becoming my least favorite printer brand. I have two all-in-one HP printers that only partially work. I can scan on one and print on the other.

I have 2 of these printers..One works perfect the other has this message of the printer head missing..I swapped the printer heads of the 2 printers and the good printer worked with the bad printer head..
So it is not the printer head..I even put the good printer head into the bad printer and still got the bad message..
Bottom line..It is not the printer head..Might be the logic board..I give up on it

I will never buy HP again, greedy woke company. First, I did all of this it didn’t work, however someone mentioned it was intentional and if I unplugged for a while the message would disappear, and so I did. When I turned it back on, I could print the report page quickly before the message appears without any issues, which suggests the printer head works fine, I think HP has built in this common issue and don’t want you to fix it but instead buy a new printer.
