  • This has been posted on YT but only at 240P & although good for that setting, I thought I would post a higher quality version I got from a collector several years ago. One of the best Nationals ever.

    Fantastic footage man! I'm not too well versed when it comes to the Nationals but this has got to be the best heavyweight lineup in Nationals history right? I mean come on that top 5 is better and deeper than most of the Olympias throughout the 70s! To me this is proof that the 90s was the real Golden Era... In fact I'm gonna be making a video on that topic soon. Do you mind if I use a clip of this footage? I'd be sure to give you a shout out and direct people to your channel to view the original.

      Use all the footage you want. I honestly think what's happened is you had a great gene pool coming up from the 80's & people wanted to look like those guys. The 80's guys could where jeans & shirts and although it was obvious they were BBr's they still looked athletic. With the right genetics you could win just taking juice & that's it. Many that have great genetics in this generation are bypassing bodybuilding because they have no desire to be 5'9 & 290 offseason. I sure the hell wouldn't. I enjoy watching the freaks but now it's juice, gh IGF1, Insulin Synthol or oil based steroid site injections. I'll tell my story someday & I went from 110 at 15 to 210 at 19 with a 30 inch waist natural. To change topics Brandon Curry is a guy with great genetics but look what he's having to do to be competitive. No life, loads of food, plenty of Supplements & a bunch of kids at home. It would have been a fun en devour in the 70's, 80's & 90's depending on who you were. The excess stuff started sometime in the 90's but it's when the HGH & Slin got used in excess plus the site injections things took a turn for the worse.

      KC Darin
      I agree with you for Brandon Curry. And so Cedric McMillan or Toney Freeman who complains that judge tell him to be bigger to be much competitive come on the dude was 6''2" 285pouds on stage with flatt stomach, shreded to the guill and that wasn't enough for the judge. Ronnie Coleman in 2001 at 260 pounds was telled by Joe Weider himself, that he need to add more mass to his body or he will loose to Jay or Günther!

    Thanks for sharing. It’s in great condition. I remember watching live as if it was yesterday. Demayo won the juniors, Beating Levrone. I was in Venice at this time and seeing Levrone in flex was crazy. ‘92 USA’s went to Flex, who got 2 nd in his first Olympia in ‘93. Dorian and Kevin also were runner ups for the Olympia in their debuts. Dennis Newman, Mike Francois, and Demayo we’re tragic. Matt Mendenhall says he is glad he never got his pro card. It’s a weird sport. But we live it and love it.

    • @FloridaManMatty
      @FloridaManMatty 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ronnie was the smallest guy in the Heavyweight class at this show, but let’s not forget a few key points:
      He had only been bodybuilding for a little over a year the day he first set foot on the stage at the NPC NATIONALS. His first competition was the 1990 Mr. Texas (aged 26 - which he easily won and qualified for a national pro-qualifier with less than a year training under his belt!!). He went on to place 3rd at the 1990 NPC Nationals, 100% natural, working a full time job as a police officer in Texas.
      Considering all of that, I’d say he made a somewhat respectable showing at the 91’ Nats. He went on to turn pro (IFBB) later that year in his 4th bodybuilding competition and 100% natural at the Worlds.
      The Big Nasty did good 😁

      I 4 got to mention I was only 6. I was really lucky to meet a gentleman on the Old Ironage Forums around 2005 that sold all these old videos & I bought a lot of rare stuff. It does irk me if someone just downloads this video without permission & posts it on their site for views. If they would just ask; I would have NO PROBLEM & it's Totally OK for someone to DL to their computer. The thing is I had to pay for it (VHS) & then take good care of it for years. I then had to buy a $250 JVC High Quality VHS to DVD Burner to get Great Quality. I'm glad this video is out for people to enjoy but someone very recently just posted it on their channel. I like the guys content but he's done this to several people & some videos that are video split screen comparisons & very time consuming in editing; he will lie to his subs about all the time he put into editing it when I know the person who made the video & he's just lying to his subs about how he did this complicated editing. UNREAL!! Srry to vent but I respect honest hard working people like Marx Max Muscle & many others. He does things right & with integrity.

    Lee Haney got a glimse of Kevin, Flex, Paul-(RIP) and Ronnie and said I better retire after this years 1991 Mr. O competition before all these young guns crush me and I don't finish at the very top as #1. Don't think Lee was ever worried after the shadow Yates becoming the New-1992-Champion. Lee was very smart to finish with his health, injury-free body and the record of #8 in a row on Top.
    Fast Forward 7-years to 1998 and Ronnie Colemans era Reign begins even thou Lee Haney's overall package is still the best and greatest imo of all the Mr O's. Nobody could duplicate that 3 on1 off training look. Kevin is the only one still healthy 30+ years.

      This was 1991. The Mr. Universe was always right after the Nationals but starting around 1990 they started drug testing for it. Whole story HERE: th-cam.com/video/-5YPxIsnaDM/w-d-xo.html
      Out of many Heavyweights Ronnie is the only one who signed up to do the Universe & that's how he turned pro.

      KC Darin he claims he was natural here? What a fucking joke

    • @KCDarin
      @KCDarin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you want to hear the whole story click that link I left. He said he was only around 200 pounds but looked a lot bigger. I've seen a construction worker who's never touched a weight have 18 inch ripped arms. Some people are just genetic freaks. He gained another 75-80 pounds of muscle after this but your talking 1 in a billion genetics.

      KC Darin I saw the video. He was not natural bro

    • @KCDarin

      Very hard for me to believe too. Maybe he had it timed where his test would show clean for the Universe. Some roids are in and out of your system very fast & he was smaller for the Universe. What's funny is when the lady asks Kevin if he is going to do it. He kind of stumbles around the question because he knew it was going to be tested. I don't think the interviewer did.

    Is it true Ronnie was natty at this time?!

    • @KCDarin
      @KCDarin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know it's hard to believe he was but he was only around 220 pounds here. He was the only Heavyweight to even try out for the Heavyweight World Championships 2 weeks later because of it's very strict drug testing. ( I can't say for 100% certainty but he says he was, along with his peers & Brian Dobson. This is 1 in a Million or more Genetics with an insane work ethic. I've seen a couple of black guys I knew 100% were Natural that played Division A College Football that could have been great bodybuilders.. 6"2 - 235 pounds with low Bodyfat with just basic heavy training for football.

      @@KCDarin I'm with you. Only Ronnie can say if he was clean, but I definitely can believe he could've been natty. Imo he has those one in a million type of genetics that'd allow him to be that big and that shredded.

      Obviously. This is what the classic physique should be, no weight cap but maintain the tight waist and symmetry.

    Matt Mendehall was down placed so many times by IFBB judges. Here was a classic bone structure, wide shoulders, narrow hips, calves that were balanced to the rest of his physique. I swear the judges of his time were trying to undo the "greek God" look, unfavoring what was once the traditional norm. Now I like Levrone but just standing relaxed you can see Matt is the more genetically gifted guy there. Certainly against quadzilla who is far out of balance. Even Ronnie could not hold his own in the legs against Matt. Flex was amazing head to toe. I always felt bad for Matt and Bob Paris. The judges in their time SUCKED!!!

    You could look at Ronnie Coleman in this video and say to yourself, "Geez, if this guy does what everyone else does, he will be Mr. Olympia" and that is exactly what happened!

    • @KCDarin
      @KCDarin  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sad thing is a lot of people get upset; especially before his competitors stated it as fact..that someone with 99.99% genetics can look like that without any gear. I met an old black man who was jacked & ripped, so I asked him how old he was & how long he had been working out. I heard 55, which is what I thought his age would be & he stated he has worked construction all his life & never touched a weight. His Grandson was with him & I said you look amazing for 55 or even 35. His Grandson said, "No He's 65. and the man verified I had heard him wrong. It was quite a site as this old man had sub 10% BF and round big arms and chest in a white WB tank top. They are out there. I've seen a few guys with amazing genetics play football & know they never touched gear. They've all been black guys but my 2nd year of college when I was 19 I had an 18 yr. old freshman football player move in the dorm room right next to me & he was on roids but 6'1, 240 and a back that looked amazing. I was all tanned & cut because I was competing during that time but at 190 pounds he dwarfed me. He got mouthy with me one too many times & we got into a scuffle & after ended up becoming good friends.
