First time watching your content man, love it. Would be great if you did a 'lap' test since a lot of people like me use it on the lap on the go. I have a big question. The Vivobook S 16 and Zenbook S 16 here cost the same at some store (discounted zenbook). I will be using for my own personal dev projects (small scale, running some containers, a web server, code editor and browser tabs / videos). I heard Zenbook is limited to 28W which should probably be enough but it is also more premium. The vivobook seems to have a higher resolution here 3.2K vs 2.8K zenbook. What do you think? Does this one get much hotter on the lap? BTW: MS just backported a Windows 11 24H2 update for AMD to current version which improves gaming a lot for Zen 4/5 on desktop. Very interesting!
@hubwood Thanks for the review. I got a lot of needed information. One question, in Europe I couldn't find this model. There is a Zenbook model with Intel Ultra 7 or 9. This model is not available afaik. Where did you get that price in Euro? Thanks
What about ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 GA605 with the same CPU but also a 4070 dGPU? That way you can have both a power efficient system and a powerful gaming system? Or am I wrong?
Have you considered or reviewed the Lenovo Ideapad Pro 5 gen 9 14" AMD with 8845HS + 780M iGPU? It has a 2.8k 2880 x 1800p 120hz OLED with HDMI 2.1, slim, all-aluminium body, backlit (but not RGB) keyboard, good connectivity, 84kwh battery and you can configure the build from Lenovo direct to have 32GB soldered gddr5 6400 (unlocked to 7500 with latest BIOS) plus 1TB SSD for around £770. I paid this on their 'Business Store', which anyone can use actually. I'm in the UK but this laptop is also available on European stores but not American stores, I understand. It won't have the ultimate performance & efficiency of the Vivobook S14 model in this review as the CPU is now already a 'last gen Zen', but it is still very fast, surprisingly capable for gaming and good value for money. You get perhaps 85-90% of the performance for 55-60% of the cost. It would make an interesting comparison & cheaper alternative.

@hubwood
Thanks for the review. I got a lot of needed information. One question, in Europe I couldn't find this model. There is a Zenbook model with Intel Ultra 7 or 9. This model is not available afaik. Where did you get that price in Euro? Thanks
Germany!
What about ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 GA605 with the same CPU but also a 4070 dGPU? That way you can have both a power efficient system and a powerful gaming system? Or am I wrong?
Basically yes. Don't know about that laptops battery runtime though.
I can't find this hx 370 version, it it available in US?
Thats the price/performance winner if you don't need the latest and greatest APU.
I bought that one for around 1000 euro's on sale with my student discount but it is only available in europe and it is quite good actually
@@markpeene4757 how is the battery life on that one? Ive been looking at it for school
@@fort6564 It's very good. Large battery (84kwh) coupled with efficient processor. If you make changes such as lower brightness, switch from 120hz to 60hz (Fn + R to quick toggle) and use lower power settings, it's even better. Basically it's capable of supplying the power when required, yet can be quiet and efficient while still performing well for less demanding tasks. Web browsing, office work and productivity apps run flawlessly and silent.
@@fort6564 its good I get 12 hours with light use like browsing and word at half brightness at 60hz and about 2 hours at high load, like playing a game
Hey can you please test the rtx 4060 vs the rx 7700s. Thank you
I always would expect to get a Thunderbolt port with PD input on each side of a notebook. So one could decide one‘s own best desktop setup. It is really ridiculous: Apple’s M4 shows 3700 in Geekbench 6 single core performance. I also never want to, carry a laptop larger than 14“. The display shows 93% of Never The Same Colour (NTSC)?😂
75wh in 14" But still put 78wh in 16inch.
That is what I don't understand
But the battery life is really 11hrs on normal use(youtube, edge and chrome, sql and figma, with music playing on speakers?)
For the youtube test I was setting the Display to 50%, and used headphones at 20% loudness. That resulted in 11,5 hours, yes.
@@Hubwood thanks
I have one and it's usually 9 hours, but its probably because mine is 120hz
Is there a europe link for this product, I can not find it.

@@bokuwatobi766 not yet available (in Germany).
could you compare it with snapdragon asus vivobook?
please test also the 16 inch version!
Nice, I was thinking about getting this laptop, but the price is a bit too steep for a Vivobook.
Yeah its quite "costly"...
@Hubwood it's $1,000 usd in my region. How much was yours?

Is the 1tb ssd upgradable?
Bro I got Intel core i5 1135g7 iris xe graphics
Whenever I play rdr 2 it started to crash after 10mins of the game play every time.
Will u help me to sort this out
Help me bro
Does it get so hot in the back even in balanced/silent mode?
No!
The llegends on the keys would be hard to see with backlight on , i don't get why asus still does it like that
That's actually true in some scenarios...
Is there a 16” of this??
Yeah :)
wait this comes as 60hz?
I watch ur videos playing rdr 2 with that.
I wish this had an ips display and upgradable storage
Someone claimed it has upgradable storage for them on the comments. According to the Asus support Asus it doesn't. But unfortunately Im Not allowed to open this unit to see for my self
it looks impressive but ain't exactly cheap, for gaming there is also the new TUF A14 ,with the same CPU, maybe you will check that one out if you can.
Crazy cpu and igpu, congratulations amd.
I think soldering in 24GB of RAM (with a slight performance benefit) is somewhat ok, but soldering in the SSD is a purely customer hostile shit move and thus an instant deal breaker 🤷♂
According to Asus it's not soldered ... I was missinformed bY the support hotline
@Hubwood Thanks, thats good news, I'll try to verify this :)
Release date?
A while ago ;)
Please try 4k game with low setting
Sorry, I cannot and will not forgive it that 60Hz screen. What the hell were they thinking? They are going to lose so many sales because of that absurd decision.
As mentioned in the video, there are other options available aswell. They also have a 120Hz one.
Though if Gaming is not the main concern 60hz are fine. Also considering that in most games you won't get more than 60 fps or could use VSYNC. I don't think it's that drastically in that kind of laptop...
The only reason why you'd need a higher hz monitor is for gaming and frame time. There are other things people do with the computer.
@@Backstage_Politicianna, higher refresh rate makes the entire user experience more pleasent, not only games.
The same here: my handheld legion go has a 144 hz 1600p screen, Z1 Extreme and costs about the half. In 2024 it should be at least 120 Hz and real 400 nits .
@@HubwoodI cannot agree. Just surfing the web or using windows, 60 vs 120 hz is a massive difference. There is no big difference with using office, but no one needs this chip and 24 GB of RAM for that…
Omg 1300$ 😢 that instantly sucked my blood! I thought I would be around 1000$.
might be. Depends on the Country/Store. Someone said it was around 1000 in the us in some specific config.
i want this.
Please mke a video on how to configure this laptop for 4-5hr of gaming, and please measure the runtimes of ~4 (probably esports) games to show us. Thanks!
Use the Universal x86 tuning utility to set all 3 TDPs to 10W. I also di set the boost times to the minimum amount. So it will be applied immediately. Don't forget to activate the check boxes for each TDP and boost time. Then apply the setting
Then also use process lasso to limit the cores for the task of a game after you run it. Might need to play around a bit concerning the cores you need to allocate to the game.
@@Hubwood i ordered an hx365 S16 today and may be trying out your ideas on friday. Your video ALMOST convinced me to get this vivobook but i need the 16" screen for programming and ive never had a touch screen and wanted to try one ... A lot of people think they have to run the S16 on "performance" or worse, "max fans" because maybe they're idiots who always bought intel but i have no illusions about the bad cooling on the S16.
@@dgillies5420 enjoy and let us know how the 10W mode worked for you :)
55w 890m interesting
What? soldered SSD? that is a windows first.
I'm not sure anymore. The Asus support said it's soldered. People mentioned that at least some versions do not have that soldered SSD. That would not speak for the Asus support though...
(I was NOT allowed to open it up. Unfortunately)
@@Hubwood I found the spec sheet. For SSD they write: 1TB M.2 NVMe™ PCIe® 4.0 SSD, this should be some M.2 standard.
You are one of the very few TH-camrs to understand the breakthrough of the HX 370 GPU (RDNA 3.5 with all the power saving improvements from RDNA 4). The soldered ssd is a total tragedy on this laptop! The speed and energy efficiency ... Well there is nothing other than the apple walled prison that can touch it!
Someone stated that his Vivobook s14 had a upgradable SSD. Might actually be different depending on the models. Asus support stated the one I tested is soldered though... So ... 🙄
The SSD is soldered as well?????? Goodbye asus. Man, what a stupid decision!
To be fair I'm not 100 sure anymore. I wasn't allowed to open this unit. But the Asus technical support at the phone said it is. But other comments here state that it might be NOT soldered.
Soldered SSD? Lol that sucks
Someone claimed it has upgradable storage for them on the comments. According to the Asus support Asus it doesn't. But unfortunately Im Not allowed to open this unit to see for my self
M3pro can idle at 0.1w so 3watt is absolutely not impressive
Well... At this point I wouldn't use an apple product even if I was paid for using it :p
But yeah, the m chips are another level. But for a windows laptop it is great.
@@Hubwood my 13700H laptop can idle at 1.6-2w altough the windows iso i installed is barebone and no defender no bloatware garbage.
Stock idle was 5-6w.
Still i was expecting at least a 2w idle from amd out of the box
@@PKperformanceEU can you post a picture of your laptop idling at 1,6-2W?
@@Hubwood I uploaded it to my videos.
Obviously you get worse efficiency once you need power.
I get 19 500 on r23 and 34 500 on passmark. With 4250 single thread passmark.
@@PKperformanceEU hey thanks for uploading. Did you check the average total system draw via HW Info? The 2w is the CPU
But the laptop uses power as well. (My 3w was refering to the whole system, also consider that software readings aren't always 100% correct) You'd have to measure the total runtime on idle to find the ACTUAL total system draw
It's really annoying how these vivobooks with the new AMD chips are in the US, China and even Eurrope yet in the UK apparently we are too poor to be given these options. It's really annoying.
