    Many years ago I was privileged to befriend a squirrel and she allowed me to hand feed her. I fed her Brazil nuts and would tap them on the deck railing. She would come down out of the Oak tree and run across the deck railing and take the nut from my fingers. She was so gentle and her little paws were so soft. I now feed squirrels, chipmunks, and birds. I love all wildlife.

      Brazil nuts are high in selenium, which can be toxic to squirrels. Walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds and unsalted peanuts are the way to go. 😊🐿

      @@SquirrelTheater Thanks for the information. I didn’t know that. I only feed dry roasted, unsalted peanuts and sunflower hearts now. I’d love to feed walnuts but I can’t afford them.

      So strange to me. Brazil nuts are the only nut my squirrels ignore.

      @@keithdrummond1003 That is strange. I feed sunflower hearts and peanut pieces. My squirrels and chipmunks ignore the peanuts and go straight to the sunflower seeds.

    Last summer a tailless squirrel showed up with a little bloody nub, we started out leaving treats for “ him “. He and 12 others show up every morning for breakfast now.The tailless squirrel we named “ Nubbs”. I always make sure Nubs gets his peanuts first, he is often shunned by the other squirrels, treated as an outsider. He is a loner, but it seems the other squirrels recognize that he is treated special. Really interesting to see the hierarchy of the group. Thank you for sharing your squirrels with everyone.

    It amazes me how these little cuties use their tail: for protection, to warm against danger, to communicate with other squirrels.
    They are truly amazing critters.
    And I love mine dearly! 🐿️

    I have a family of squirrels that feed from my window and live in a row if sycamores behind my house.
    One of them is far more confident than the rest, she has really red fur and I call her Jazz, because she is obsessed with Jazz apples.

    I love watching your channel, the squirrels are wonderful with the way they look and act, I have 5 squirrels that come to my back door to be fed, but one of them has a damaged tail or maybe it's not deveoped properly, the fur can be seen at the base of the tail but it has not progressed any further up it's tail resulting in the fact that it doesn't have a brush tail, he does come every day and eats well, but I'm keeping an eye on his, my squirrels usually eat nuts but occasionally they will each red berries, blueberries and even tortilla chips, I love seeing them every day, they are a wonder to behold

    Such fascinating little animals. Thank you so much for sharing these videos! Also, the way Righty came right up to the window to look at you after fighting off the other squirrel. It's like he was telling you "Yeah that's right, I AM THE BOSS!" lol

    I have a squirrel in my yard that is missing 2/3 of his tail. I call him stumpy. I feel sorry for stumpy. Stumpy’s smart though, he stays on the ground and gets the nuts that fall out when the others grab them from the feeder.

      Oh poor squirrel, I'm sorry about that. He is probably a survivor of an attack from a predator, he lost his tail but it saved his life. I'm glad that he can find a way to get some food. 😊🐿️

    When they do the thing where they chase each other up and down trees in the morning... you think that's for fun, or infighting?

    • @Squirrels_at_the_window
      @Squirrels_at_the_window  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think it can be both, sometimes I see baby squirrels siblings doing that but it seems they are playing, but adults probably do that because they are being chased away.
