*Great product. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I have never used a baitcaster before and did a lot of research before buying this one. I bought it with the Torrent casting rod as well and it works very nice.*
Thanks for the video mate, very helpful. You have a beast of a cast too. I'm sure a lot of people commenting on this video have never actually been fishing before.
Glad it helps. Take your time and do the swing over the top first and then the south african cast a few times and put them together. My mate did it in 20 minutes:) Good luck.
I wouldn't be standing on that side of someone when they are casting. Better to film from the other side. All it would take is for the spool to slip, or a wee nick in the shockleader.
Hi paul , held your scaffold pole last night ...now that is a rod and a half! Hope to get on beach with mark just after christmas if your up for a cod session let mark know.
If you are right handed try using your left hand to control the mouse on your computer. See how long it takes to do anything. When lure fishing i use a fixed spool with the handle on the left as i need to twitch the rod to work the lure.
Sure, do a beach snap cast. Swing the lure out 180 degrees away from where you want to cast, then swing it in and lay the lure down so it's near your feet. Then perform a simple overhead cast. It's just like a pendulum, just without the body core twist and it being ground based.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious but this is a casting lesson:) if you use just lug on a clipdown rig and tuck it i right behind your weight, you won`t lose much distance at all as the weight punches through the air. Check out the bait presentation vids Paul has done. Will help. Happy swinging:)
it was a pleasure to make this vid with Paul and we hoped to educate and help those who want to learn or improve their cast. The amount of views this vid has received justifies our making it and i´m sure many of you have gained something from it which was the whole idea. To all the positve thinkers out there we thank you for watching and hope that big guy comes your way. Thanks, Max.
Youre only teaching poor technique!!! His left hand is non existant!! . Go on TH-cam and watch Steve Lewis, Neil Mackellow, Alan Varley, and watch what they do with their left hand.!!
Casts from the side tend to be a lot flatter without the arc and are alot harder to control. Think of the javelin thrower coming over the top. You never see them throwing from the side. Try the South African cast first and you will see the distance you get coming over the top. Break up the pendulum by pushing the cast away first and then add the pendulum after without casting. Then put them all together. There are other vids you can see to explain more. Hope this helps.
I must be missing something. Why are so many replies talking about whether multipliers are left or right handed? I cannot see the issue. I am a leftie but as most multipliers are rightie, I learned to use the right handed reels, just like when I started to learn the guitar i learned as a right hander even though I am left dominant. Learn and overcome, what's the issue?
Let me reiterate/clarify. I actually own both left and right crank multiplier/baitcast/convetional reels. I heard the same as you and thought it would be better to have a left crank. After using it, I decided I didn';t like it and I had another reel in right crank that I purchased online accidentally (long story), and gave that one a try. THe right crank is more antural, and the switching become second nature after the intial shock of having to do the switch.
First thing to do before you start to move into the cast is lift the left hand its crucial with this cast. As you pull round with high the left the right hand and rod with follow a tidy arc then a bit of punch with right hand arm. Leaning more of your body with the cast also..like a boxer or golfer transfering weight forewards. It'l look and effortless when you hit the sweetspot. Check John Holdens off the ground on youtube.
No its not, there was quite a bit of research done MANY years ago. The theory is, if you are right hand dominant, that you want to reel with that hand for better control. The left or non-dominant hand only has to hold the reel steady, but the cranking hand must be coordinated with the turning of the crank and the torque it causes along the axis of the rod, and the retrieve is much smoother. I personally have tried both right and left cranks, and I have to saya right crank is more natural feeling
This is a VERY difficult cast to visualise. I have watched many videos and am still confused. 1) Perhaps use a flouro tennis ball on the lead to show what is happening. 2) show it from 2 or 3 angles as I am confused by what is happening when you wave the lead around behind you. I think this is similar to the cast where you wave the weight behind you to load the rod and as it is loaded you push the rod forward. This is known as the "flick cast". Is this what the "pendulum cast" is try to do?
@HighBlackMagick It`s a good idea but would have to film over a number of days and we would need to catch some fish too:) Just a tip, if you do get a fish swallowing the hook then push your index finger down the shaft of the hook until you find the bend and push it down. You will find this releases the hook for you to pull it from the mouth and doing the least amount of damage. I hope that helps.
@dizzyspliff yep, he is. Some cast round the side but more power is generated over the top and it is more accurate if you`re casting to a specfic point.
@RaGexRayGun There are a few places that can be good. By the sanitation works at Langney. Splash point near the cafe and fort fun. The pier can be good. The wish tower at high tide can be great but you need to cast well. Pevensey Bay is pretty good in shorter tides and all the highs. The seafront about 500 yards east of the pier opp the waterfront pub/hotel. Mackerel are still showing if you want to chuck feathers and schoolies are showing so their big brothers should be here soon:) good luck.
i cast with my right and reel with my left ..all my friends cast with the right and reel with the right ... but we catch the same sized fish .... but i've always wished i could do the same .... more than 99% reels in the market are right handed
@platesdog it`s all in the timing and should be smooth. No snatching and get the rod over the top and finishing at 45 degrees. Depending on your reel, have you tried taking the brakes off immediately after your cast? Go over the top, cast and release the brakes but beware as this can be birds nest city:) Good luck.
2 slight quibbles with actual content: 1) Few people fish with a rear-hand reel. Having a low reel may confuse some people. 2) It would have neen nice to have the weight painted with a fluorescent colour to better demonstrate the pedlum swing As for the video production: 1) Wrong beach. The weight was invisible in the shingle. 2) Get a microphone sock to get rid of wind noise.
set it on slow for starters and use your thumb to feather the reel. I wouldnt give it too much on your first attempts and work your way up. Good luck :)
@psych0h0rse it is difficult but what you want at the end of the cast is a spear throwing technique. At the start of the cast the weight is swung back past you in an arc and then when it is at the 12 o`clock position it becomes weightless. This is the time that you start bringing the rod round, loading the rod, and strike into the spear throw. as you come over the top and release, the rod should be at a 45 degree angle which will give you the maximum distance. I`ll add more,
hi im trying to get back in to beach casting after wating 3 years for docs to say that my spine damage carnt get any worce is there a way i can bring the rod over my sholder to the floor and power over like that and get good range twisting realy hurts u see
Ah i may of been to soon to comment. My player is not playing to full video! The previous comment were regards the flick at the start.. But even a flick goes better with that hand up! Regards BB.
Yep, except people are not stupid and will do what feels comfortable. AND the more you fish the stronger your arm will get anyway. AND I am right-handed but for lifting and pulling my left arm is actually stronger. My right hand I tend to use for fine-motion stuff, left arm for carrying heavy things, always have.
Well if you knew anything about fishing, you would understand that to work modern plastic lures CONTROL is needed to get the best from them. Hence the reason why i use my right arm to hold the rod.
I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
I take your point, but I still think the basics of casting a multiplier should be the same as casting with fixed-spool reel, which 9 out of 10 anglers prefer left hand wind??? -yes 9 out of 10! -can you tell me therefore, is it NATURAL, to have to "CHANGE HANDS AFTER CASTING WITH A RIGHT HAND RETRIEVE MULTIPLIER which you dont have to do with left hand fixed spool reel just because the multiplier is on top of reel, should make no difference to basic casting or retrieving-are you left handed?

Again it comes down to control. centre pin reels are controlled with your right hand while you hold the rod. Fly rods take a controlled cast. I cast over 100 yards with bait and takes a long time to reel in, if i reeled in with my weak left hand i would be tired quickly! Do you understand yet or do you want me to write it in crayon?
thank you mate, asyour mates are going to give themselves heart attacks, reeling in (the easy light job!) with their STONGER RIGHT ARM, and using their WEAKER LEFT ARM to pump fish in! -total right hand multiplier MADNESS! -even the great ABU fell for this HUGE AMERICAN CON and lost MILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF SALES -the ONLY left hand wind reel ABU made in the 1970's was the Ambassadeur 5001C - a beautiful reel, but the priority should have been left hand wind multipli
Ive just watched it again.. I'm sorry but its a dreadful cast..it may get his lead out there but is a poor example for instruction purposes. That left hand skirts around so low. And i thought title was 'off the ground pendulum' its not? And thats a contradiction of terms anyway. Off the ground is off the ground!
well, ive been fishing a long time now, sea coarse and game fishing -next, you will be telling me that RIGHT HAND retrieve/wind, centre-pin, coarse, trout and salmon fly fishing reels are preferred to LEFT HAND wind?? again- LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the last example cast on this video was the essence of pontification, the postured pause and flick to the back - but thats where style exceeded substance. Your rotation was terrible and cramped - there was a lashy swipe and no controlled arc.
amazing that almost all beachcasting fishermen -99%, are now LEFT-HANDED! -aha aha, aha yayayayahahayahayahyahayaha! as they keep laughing -casting right hand style as with fixed-spool, then HAVING TO CHANGE HANDS to reel in with right hand -CRAZY
Should mention that you should never stand where the camera man was could be lethal a bit thick not mentioning that to people that maybe trying to learn how to sling 6oz leads at two hundred miles an hour
i was able to work out that i had a zoom facility on my camera and was on a sloping beach. Clever ay? Plus i trust Pauls knot tying abilities and the amount of lead he was using. I await your video as this one is 13 years old and you just seem to have caught up.
Well I don’t make vids but I wouldn’t show anyone how to do something that’s life threatening as for his knots so what ! his knots won’t stop a 175 gm lead from coming round and TWATING someone just saying be safe if you can
@@hoofhearted5069thanks for your words of wisdom and we will read them out at the next casting meeting for all to observe. Make a vid and tell me how it went and what predicaments you came up against. The beach was empty and we are well aware of the risks and paul requested i change my recording position on a number of occasions incase he cracked off. Advice is welcome without insults and certainly isnt necessary on a video that we hoped would be educational to at least one person. being hlier than thou is unhelpful as well but this is yt and full of people who could do better but never show us how. i guess you can already pendulum cast so i wish you all the best and empty beaches all around you. Tight lines and no more answers.
Well I'm ambidextrous - so what are you trying to imply? That only one technique works and anyone doing it different than your own or some other peanut's version of reality is somehow wrong? Plainly not so. My wife has a shoulder injury - cannot wind in with right hand now so has to change how she fished for decades - if she wants to fish then she has to go lefthand now - better than not fishing at all....
and just to add, ask your mates, "IS IT NATURAL TO HAVE TO CHANGE HANDS AFTER CASTING"???? -i never saw this with casting left-hand fixed-spool reel which 9, YES 9 out of 10 fishermen PREFER to right hand wind fixed-spool reel LOL!!! yes 9 out of 10! -should be same for multiplier =left hand wind -god it makes me SO ANGRY
all I can say, is that I see SO MANY VIDEOS, with anglers using right hand retrieve, and their arms are rolling around, totally un-coordinated, all over the place, when playing big fish, because their stronger right arm is just used to wind in, and their WEAKER LEFT ARM, is doing the "POWER JOB" of pumping the rod -does not make sense -should be other way round
We are sick of you! You have posted this on so many casting vids! I can not reel in with a small multiplier with my left hand, it feels all wrong. It all depends what you feel comfortable with.
EVEN ABU fell for this American eccentricity! --thank god we still drive on right side of road in UK, with our stronger, more co-ordinated right arm on the steering wheel when we change gear-the POWER JOB! are you listening??????????????????????????? -god i am sick of this now
*Great product. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I have never used a baitcaster before and did a lot of research before buying this one. I bought it with the Torrent casting rod as well and it works very nice.*
Paul Humble taught me to cast as a young lad, still using the same tips from over 30 years ago, still catching bugger all
😂
This is the best tuition video on pendulam casting I've seen bar none very informative and easy to follow 10 out of 10.
Utter bollocks this stuff.
Thanks for the video mate, very helpful. You have a beast of a cast too.
I'm sure a lot of people commenting on this video have never actually been fishing before.
Well done lads handy vid, just going to watch part 2 now.
Kept decking the lead myself so learned to slow it all down and try a longer drop,
Thanks for taking the time to make this I have learnt a bit
+richard best we hoped it would help and get the big one :)
Yes in all honesty. I am right handed, I use a right hand crank on my multipliers, and a left hand crank on my spinning
Glad it helps. Take your time and do the swing over the top first and then the south african cast a few times and put them together. My mate did it in 20 minutes:) Good luck.

Really interesting fact about the hosepipe and the trajectory of where to let the lead go 😁
@zarkoff glad you liked the vid and Paul is the `man` for fishing tips. I think he`s forgotten more than i know:)
Good one Paul. Learnt a lot mate. I understood. Cool man.
nice technique thanks I'll give it a try.

i would recommend just doing the up and over swing first without the cast. That movement is quite important to get right :)
Get rid of the wind noise, as your mate has a lot to say which cannot be heard.

Good show, but with the wind and no BBC English is hard to understand. Automatic subtitles go totaly wrong....So you could add subtitles :).
It is much more natural, the hand off to the other hand becomes second nature much more quickly than off hand cranking IMO.
sorry correction to comment, I meant
"just because reel is on top of rod"
Is Paul still fishing?.
you boys wanna try the 6 kg 0.35 black magic velocity
Well if you knew anything about fishing, you would understand that to work modern plastic lures CONTROL is needed to get the best from them. Hence the reason why i use my right arm to hold the rod.
@MrBloater glad you got use out of this vid and your mistake is very common. Good luck next time on the beach. When you get it right, you will know:)
set the drag slow?
@knapman1990 i can ask Paul but doubt he will do individual lessons but if you have some mates he might do a group. I`ll get back to you in the week.
this is a Neil McCullough 14ft cod pole. Not sure what you`re saying.
top stuff.
The Bushwecker.. 💪WWF 😁🎣😉
@johnsonphil85 me too so you`ll have to keep watching the ones in English:)
I tried this... It needs timing... Lots of them...
what model reel is that
Love it when you get an uneducated comment..Nice one Tuna..Guess casting with a 50lb boat rod is difficult.
I take your point, but I still think the basics of casting a multiplier should be the same as casting with fixed-spool reel, which 9 out of 10 anglers prefer left hand wind??? -yes 9 out of 10!

Nice
Damn... get a fricking wind guard for your mic.
you use left hand fixed spool JUST to "twitch the rod to work the lure" ???? as you say
LOL!
@knapman1990 Paul can do it and you`re looking at 20 an hour but he`s out at see a lot so let me know and we`ll arrange a meet. Cheers.
How come when he cast's, he goes right over the top??? is he trying to do that? I don't know, im shit at casting.

yes 9 out of 10!
-should be same for multiplier =left hand wind
-god it makes me SO ANGRY
all I can say, is that I see SO MANY VIDEOS, with anglers using right hand retrieve, and their arms are rolling around, totally un-coordinated, all over the place, when playing big fish, because their stronger right arm is just used to wind in, and their WEAKER LEFT ARM, is doing the "POWER JOB" of pumping the rod -does not make sense -should be other way round
cut my finger today lol
o.k
@MrExcarper 1 ounce!!!!!!:)
You doing it wrong mate!Your reel is too low same mistake i've seen in many rods for sale!move your reel 50cm forward if you want to cast far!
i hate when people make youtube videos that arent in english...

We are sick of you! You have posted this on so many casting vids! I can not reel in with a small multiplier with my left hand, it feels all wrong. It all depends what you feel comfortable with.
Its Mackellow BTW one of the greatest casters ever, much mcuh better than this pleb in the video
EVEN ABU fell for this American eccentricity!
--thank god we still drive on right side of road in UK, with our stronger, more
co-ordinated right arm on the steering wheel when we change gear-the POWER
JOB! are you listening???????????????????????????
-god i am sick of this now
