      Yeah, for its age, and being in the midwest, its not terrible for rust. Has some evidence it came from Colorado/Wyoming at some point. Or a previous owner spent a lot of time out that way.

    Oh man. I had a 72 Merc Montery in HS in the MID-90s that I named the "War-Machine" and I had to sell all of my belongings to keep that beast gassed up. It was such a dang guzzler and the quarters were so rusted that they flapped like wings on the highway. It was so anemic with under 195 hp that it couldn't even break the tires for a burnout. I loved that car though. I am 6"2' and could nearly lay across the front or back seat fully extended. This came in handy at 17. Anyway, I agree, your content is great for being pretty new to this. I have enjoyed everything I have seen so far. Keep up the great work!

    As a 16yr old with a family of mechanics, I knew the old oil came in those cans, but never knew about how they were opened. I always assumed there were standard style tin openers for them

    • @misfittoys8883
      @misfittoys8883  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      To my knowledge, there were two main ways to use the cans- the spout that punched through the top like I demonstrated, or using a metal key that would hook onto the edge of can and used leverage to punch a triangular hole in metal, then pour it into a funnel.

    I think that F-250 is in decent shape to be kept as whole. It’s too nice to part out. If that F-250 was so badly rusted, the whole drivetrain would be perfect to swap into a 1984 Bronco or same year F-150 short bed. Nothing better than either an 84 Bronco or F-150 short bed with a 460 big block backed by a 4 speed manual and 4:10 rear. For the carb setup, only disadvantage is power loss. Something you’ll use for now until you can rebuild the factory carburetor. Junkyard Digs can rebuild it for you

    Just for future reference( don't want to sound like I'm trying to tell you what to do) next time stick the big flat screwdriver in the key slot and knock hell out of it with BMFH. Put you a wrench on your screwdriver shank and turn it toward the start position. It WILL unlock and go to crank position. Poured 650,000 at a of oil in cars and trucks. I worked at a car lot and then a gas station around 52 tears ago.

    I need to do something about all the oil I have and should build a oil burner but I don't need one for the garage because it's goy its own heat and don't need to make another hole. But I think I get about 20 5 gallon pails a year worth of oil that's beginning to be a pain in the ass to get rid of lately

  • @TheFurriestOne

    That bulged coil might have been left hooked to power without a resistor for too long, surprised it's not popped!
    That was some wanton destruction on that column, but hey, it lives! Hmm, busted accel-pump diaphragm on the Holley, maybe? Dang, that modified two-barrel works shockingly well! Just, runs nice right off the bat.
    I've got a few of those old oil-can spouts, and a few cans, even one with some dusty old oil in it!
    From my grandpa's shop. Man, that locking-hub was pretty buggered! Oh hey, the truck comes with the optional rifle-rack, hunter-orange plastic edition! My grandpa's truck had one of those.

    • @misfittoys8883

      Looked in the vid of me pulling out on the road the first time that there was a hint of black smoke(rich) coming from broken off y pipe area. I know dirt track cars only run small blocks, but they run some serious RPM's, so they would require respectable airflow.

    • @TheFurriestOne
      @TheFurriestOne 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds about right! Enough fuel for serious speed and power, but not so much it hydro-locks at 6K and scatters across the track.

    I’m sitting on a 70 Ford F-250 with a blown 390( hole in the block). I have a late 60s 460 sitting on a stand but has anybody done that swap before. I know that you can use the flywheel off the fe motor and use that for the 460 but I’m not sure what to do for engine mounts. And I can’t decide wether to get a c6 or use the 4 speed. Dana 44 front 60 rear. Granny low 4 speed. Any advice for a fella?

    • @misfittoys8883
      @misfittoys8883  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The proper C6 for the 460 is typically the easiest route. You are correct about using the FE flywheel on the early 429/460. I have done it a couple of times in the past for a granny 4 speed setup with a 390 flywheel, 351M/400 bellhousing and a fabricated 3/8 spacer between block and bellhousing. Bolt starter directly to bellhousing with no spacer there. Homemade spacer is not neccesary if you can find a bellhousing from a 429/460 application. I did a 76 F250 4x4 a long time ago. Seems like I used the 460 mounts but had to do some fabricating/modifying of them to pull it off

Its true, it is a Montclair, but I prefer to call it a Marauder( I'm not wrong to do so!) Not too terrible rusty for a midwest car. The fact that it has AC was a big part of me getting it- make a cool summertime road trip car. Had a locked up 390 in it. Already put 4 wheel disks on it. The 460 in that 97 is obviously EFI, but it is stupid easy to stab in an older distributor and make an adapter plate to bolt a carb to the EFI intake. Done it twice now.

      Nope. Kind of a crapshoot on F250's some got Dana 44 and some got the dana 50. Probably a weight capacity option. Gassers and diesels could both get either.

      I bought it mostly to use the transmission in my Ronchero project. I will use other parts from it as well. Thats why I did the revival on it- to determine if the 460 was worth keeping. Its not rust free obviously, but it is solid enough that I hate to part it out and srap the remains it in the end, but I already have too many vehicles to pay registration, insurance and upkeep on.

      Look up ozzirt waste oil heater or drip feed waste oil heater on youtube. LOTS of variations out there on it. Probably the biggest difference I did with mine was to keep the oil feed tank outside the shop because I wanted the oil supply viscosity to stay consistent so I would not have to fiddle with feed valve constantly as the oil would get thinner when warming up inside shop. Then, when refilling feed tank with thicker cold oil from outside, the fiddling would all start over again. With my supply tank being outside the heated shop, it stays at a contstant temperature and viscosity. I can usuall get mine set in an hour or less and pretty much forget it other than topping off the supply tank every couple of hours or turning drip feed down if it starts getting too warm in shop(and it does!!)

      The thought did cross my mind to pull the steering wheel and investigate a possible release mechanism underneath it. If I were going to make a driver out of the truck I definitely would have been more diligent about a non destructive solution.
