It’s funny when you watch this movie for the first time as a kid, and you think “wow this is awesome” you spend the next few years playing drums and joining marching band, then you come back and watch this and it just pisses you off 😂
Wuden PC It’s mostly just the technique they use. In marching band or any kind of marching percussion they teach us technique the same way they teach professional marching drum corps. If you look at how high they raise the sticks, it’s almost all different, it just looks really sloppy to me especially. If you look up some videos of DCI drum lines, it’s almost like they’re all the same person. If everyone plays the same way the whole drumline gets a loud, clean, consistent sound. The basses are my biggest problem because they raise their mallets above the drum to play which is probably the worst technique I’ve ever seen in my life. All the people in my high school drumline, students and instructors, hate the way they play in the movie because of how inaccurate it is. There’s even a video by EMC productions who remade this scene but “clean version”, so it is not praised for proper depiction of drum lines among the community. Hope I cleared up any confusion 👍
@Wuden PC It may not be your cup of tea, but I would definitely recommend checking out a performance by an actual DCI group to truly see what an elite marching core looks like.
My school did this before this movie. When the stands are shaking so bad that you think they are going to fall down because the band has everyone so hyped you have did your job.
When I first seen this as a kid when I was like 8-10 years old, it made want to play the snare SOOOO bad. Until I seen a school marching band in person for the first time….. nah. 😂😂😂

I'm a Vietnam war era veteran and checking out Nick Cannon drum line crew it sound exactly like M16 automatic assault weapons, and the bass drum sound like tanks shooters with the brass section sound like hand grenade fragments exploding in the distance of battle field weapons war. This was an awesome scenario of war action weapon sound.

The SF guys all had M16A2 rifles with 3-round burst. On signal, we all started pouring in fire. My rifle would empty a 30-round magazine in about 3 seconds while the A2's couldn't keep up (of course). One of the SF guys said, "Effin' A1's!" Guys were asking to 'borrow' my rifle on other assaults! LOL

I love how in the end they dropped their sticks on the drums basically declaring their drums weren't even worth playing. A callback to the opponents when they played on theirs ("look I can play yours better then you")
This movie is the literal only reason i was in band. I did woodwind in middle school, low brass in high school, and finally got to do percussion in college for the beginning ofmy first semester. Had to go back to low brass due to me being pregnant and not being allowed to carry the quad.
