    Thank you for the video, very big help. Here’s what I ended up having to do. I ordered a new digitizer from Amazon for my 2018 ram 1500 big horn. Half my screen glue had melted down over time. Driving last work every control that could be activated did so every few seconds. I was so pissed I considered putting a round thru the screen but instead I repaired it. When taking the original digitizer off I didn’t go slow enough it appeared and I broke the glass. If I had it to do over again I would have used a hair dryer or heat gun to get the glue more in a liquid state. So now I felt stuck, I then remembered I had a brand new screen protector designed for that touch display. So I used that down first to act as the thermal barrier/conducter then I placed my new digitizer on top of the screen saver and then replaced as you saw the videos. Another note my truck has a bench seat and no center console going all the way to the dash. There were only three screws needed to get the dash cover off. Two up top and one on the middle right side in a little storage hole, screws are under the matt. I also took off the bottom plastic cover that touches the carpet but found out that wasn’t needed in the end. The piece that I had to pull free was smaller than I first thought. Anyway, I put everything back together and held my breath. Worked like a charm! No restarts needed, it worked perfect. I just completed this last night. If I don’t come back and add a further comment right here, it’s still working great. Thank you again for saving me so much money! That glue sucked, it reminded me of flypaper glue. It just takes a long time to get it off and then sticks to everything. But they was still far better than paying 2k plus for a dealer repair or having to live with a demon possessed truck. Fingers crossed there’s no further comment needed from me. Hope this helps someone.

      3 week gone by and still not problems. Man I just read all the typos in my comment. I was spent after that evening repair but I wanted to write it down while still fresh in my mind. Good luck everyone. I’m sure Ram would never admit to a system wide known flaw or anything honest like that! Ugh

      @etarheel1 if you don't mind me asking, what kind of screen protector did you use? I am going to purchase the stuff I need and just want to make sure I get the right style/type if screen protector.

    I just did this to my 2018 1500 screen. Except I used the amazon purchased digitizer and instead of using the old digitizer I used a screen protector cut to size to act as the thermal barrier. If this proves to not work, I can still insert the old digitizer in place of the screen protector on the lcd screen.
    And that glue is a pain in the butt to get off. Isopropynol worked great though.
    Thanks for this video, it was a HUGE help!

    Creative thinking paid off. This stuff can be frustrating.

      It was easier when you could just pull of the back and look for the tube that wasn't lit up.

    I had to get a new digitizer because cracked the old one trying to seperate them (that glue is strong). The new one had it's own double sided tape on it but it was too thin and had massive "ghost touching". I took it apart again and used the thicker gorilla tape this time and everything works fine now.

      I thought about using some silicone or something but if it didn't work I'd be screwed so I never pursued that avenue.

    I am wondering if your bottom buttons were just a fluke? I replaced mine (digitizer) and didn't (yet) have any glitches. I will report back if I experience any problems but I was able to get mine in and seemingly up and running by just a straight replacement and NO extra piece. Good luck to all of you. This is a frustrating manufacturers defect for sure.

      Its possible my amazon replacement was no good. That is 100% possible. Glad yours is working. Im waiting for the one in my 2500 to crap out now.

    Have the same problem right now waiting for the digitizer to be delivered, do you think 2 sided tape might insulate? Broke the original glass.

    • @ClaremontClassicGarage
      @ClaremontClassicGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2 sided tape likely would provide the thermal break. My concerns with doing it way were how to get the air bubbles out and how to handle the joints between the rows of tape. I would maybe head over to a glass shop and get a correct size piece of glass cut to put in between. The thinest stuff they have.
