DK Tsuchiya probably one of the guy that I trusted with reviewing and showcasing cars, he could provide extensive experience both with how it drives and how it looks.
I love the guy just eats the GT3 RS alive with this very affordable car. I am choosing between the two for track use and I trust Tsuchiya San more than anyone else on TH-cam. I like the cleaner front end of the Toyota more but track performance is utmost important.
Dear CarPrime crew, please put more camera on the car so we can see what's in front. Yes we love to see Keiichi san drive but we also want to see what he sees and how the car move. Thank you so much CarPrime
@@Taytayflan You are definitely correct - however if it's what the car comes with then technically it's still 'the car'... but I get what you're saying. Also, we didn't just see a lap time, he specifically said the GR was more fun.
Well, the supplied tires when you buy or rent a car are certainly a factor, especially if suspensions are tuned accordingly. On the other hand if you intend to change your tires out immediately anyway, that may matter less, but I imagine part of the small differences between the cars actually is what kind of people might choose which brand, and maybe be happier with which tire accordingly. It seems clear the GR86 is the more track-oriented setup, and, I dunno, the Subie might be a bit more arthritis-friendly for a daily, (that's becoming a concern for me sometimes) ...and possibly it's also oriented a bit more toward rally-style dirt road stuff, I speculate, perhaps wishfully, cause I love that sort of thing. :) If I got to compare, say, via convenient rentals, I'd want to find out for myself. :) (I expect it wouldn't be hard to make the E-throttle of either car do the same thing as the other, so that throttle-response concern might not matter much to me. I think I like the Toyota styling just a bit more, and between those two colors, also Toyota wins, but not enough to make the difference. If I were buying, the choice possibly could come down to 'What tires do I get with this.' even as part of the package of minor preferences. :) ) On a nice track, I'd want the Toyota being more taut, but I might even want things a bit more compliant so some of these concrete roads where I am don't make me feel worse. :)
Car and Driver think they are both essentially the same on track, and its in the street where you notice the more tail happy nature of the GR86 a bit more. They actually tested the cars in the same specification as well, not this base vs top trim.
Thanks DK! Great insights into the differences between the GR86 and BRZ. I have only driven the new BRZ so far, and I found that the throttle response was too slow for my liking. It is a relief to hear that the GR86 has a sharper and more aggressive throttle response. I also found the suspension to be too soft in the BRZ, and that the steering was a bit light and vague. I will test drive (perhaps hire from this company) a GR86 to see if it feels more responsive with a harder edge.
(It does seem that that's the point of the brand differences. I've been wondering if the throttle response difference is in the engine tune or the e-throttle pedal setup itself, actually. Also if the BRZ's more set up for less-ideal roads like you might expect of Subie rally heritage, or just a bit more cushy. :) )
Can this be fixed? I just like the face of the BRZ because it looks like it’s smiling. If you know of a bumper for the GR86 that gives it a smile look then please let me know and I’ll go for GR86 instead
@@자시엘 if it's just the tuning for the pedal then yes it can be fixed, although i don't know if you have to do it at 3rd party store or not, but check community to be sure

I dunno why, but same case with FT86/BRZ I would prefer and even buy the GR86 than the newer BRZ, probably because I am a big fan of Hachi Rokus and Toyota.

I don’t understand why they used different tires when timing the laps between these cars. They used the better tires on the GR86(Pilot Sport 4) and Michelin Primacy on the BRZ which are harder inferior tires not meant for the track. Of course the GR86 will perform better with stickier tires.
Nice try, but you did not compare comparable models. The premium GR86 has the aggressive tires. But the “premium” BRZ is actually the base model, and it has the poor grip tires. Try comparing the Premium GR86 to the Limited BRZ.
@@engrishsheep but tsuchiya San did not say one is better than the other, plus I’m sure his comments about the cars characteristics already took the tires into his consideration, so what’s there to complain about? Just cuz the brz was slower around that track? 😂 so sour
@@chenyuliu7838 I'm not sure they're fan boys or not. But the video show the track time of both car is quite misleading. Because I want to know how much of a difference between the two on the track. Given two different categories tires on two different cars and comparing them on the track is meaningless. If they switched the tire around, then showed the GR86 time a lot slower than BRZ. A lot of "Toyota fanboy" would say the same. Then BShitter like you would leave comment like "toyota fan boys are getting sour in the comments lol" (¬_¬ )

It really weird because Subaru makes better looking vehicles than Toyota (IMO), but the GR86 looks better.
Looking forward to it! Any chance we could get an English version of Azusa Ito's reviews on the BRZ or GR Yaris?
i bet something or other will come up with that Yaris!

Aw, I was hoping the tires would match. All we saw was stickier rubber was faster.
So in fact GR 86 was faster
@@zinny999 Yeah, due to having the better tires. It wasn't a pure comparison.

My thoughts exactly, primacys vs pilot sports... this felt more like a commercial for the rental rather than a comparison video
