"Alright, everyone out." That really sums up Lisa's attitude in this episode. If her brother was rich and going to buy her a house, why hasn't he done it yet? She doesn't seem like the type who would be shy to ask for one. And while Tom didn't fully commit, I do feel like he has some hope. He seemed genuinely surprised and happy when he realized how easy it was to balance the budget and keep track of bill payments. If there was an addiction problem (as some folks have commented), I hope he got clean and split up with Lisa.

I had some friends who used to work as PAs for this show and they had stories about a few couples (no names given) who had to make sketchy regular bathroom breaks. I'm sure that these two were in this category.
These 2 were classic coke heads These episodes are 20 years old approx. ? I had so many friends on coke in the 80s,90s 2000s They all crashed and unfortunately are dying or broke and insane now it's sad when your involved with these addicts
I went to a really good school, too, Lisa, and my first job out of college was cleaning kennels at the vet's office. The guy I worked with was borderline disabled and couldn't spell his own name consistently. I moved up and I have a job now that actually uses my degree, but sometimes you just need a job and you can't be too big for your britches.

Gail won't have anymore to do with tv after what the network tried to make her do when she was filming "Princess." She shut down production--it was her show--and walked away, said she was all done, and has never sought to go back into it. She doesn't need the hassles and the unreasonable demands of the producers and the network, she's a true financial genius, and handles her own money very wisely and well. As well, she turned 65 this year, and can afford to retire without having to supplement her income with something as disagreeable as tv.

Perhaps she's in a home for drug ADDICTS, but no place has a home for drug "attics" (attics are those spaces between the ceiling and the roof in houses)....and attics have nothing to do with drug use, either, unless a person--an ADDICT--goes up there to do their thing.
I begin to think a requirement for high school graduation should be six months working in a really crappy job. I worked from age 14 onward. And believe me, a.crappy job makes an education really valuable. And seeing people your grandparents' age in those crappy jobs, sick, tired, hurting, and unable to retire or even take a day off because if they do they wont eat.....that will scare you straight.
$125.00 is enough to buy Fruit, Vegetables, Meat, Pork, Chicken, then they could work out a system of planning meals per day. That makes a world of difference. I love how Gail puts some of these couples in their place. Some deserve it more than others.
Some student loan debt can't be dismissed in bankruptcy. Taxes won't be dismissed. You can be jailed for intentional nonpayment of taxes (after they take what you own).

Dramatic personality changes are possible, but RARE. Most people's personalities are locked at 14, and at 40 its unchangeable.

This is sometimes what you get when families bail them out. It seems like a kindness, but it cripples them really. No loan should be given without understanding how it will be paid back so everyone wins. So sad they could not be truthful to themselves and others in order to learn the truths Gayle was teaching.
Exactly! Some folks are outraged if a Relative proposes a Repayment Plan using an excel sheet which I swear by. Then on the `Day` the Bill is due, they don`t pay and get defensive or whine that things came up.
Money is the least of their problems.

My Cousin bragged about how she and her husband went to so many brunch restaurants and I think you could have cooked, bought extra groceries and it would have tasted just as good. I remember watching Queer As Folk (US), and many of them had brunch but Ted Schmidt helped Melanie with her finances and he ended up stealing from her and her wife lindsay.

That's how she manipulates people. If you noticed, her eyes were teary but not red. Nothing on her face was red either. Pretty sure those were fake tears to get Gail to feel sorry for her.
The was the most awkward uncomfortable episode I've seen. As someone else mentioned below, I think there may be something like substance abuse taking place.

Perhaps she's in a home for drug ADDICTS, but no place has a home for drug "attics" (attics are those spaces between the ceiling and the roof in houses)....and attics have nothing to do with drug use, either, unless a person--an ADDICT--goes up there to do their thing.

I begin to think a requirement for high school graduation should be six months working in a really crappy job. I worked from age 14 onward. And believe me, a.crappy job makes an education really valuable. And seeing people your grandparents' age in those crappy jobs, sick, tired, hurting, and unable to retire or even take a day off because if they do they wont eat.....that will scare you straight.

$125.00 is enough to buy Fruit, Vegetables, Meat, Pork, Chicken, then they could work out a system of planning meals per day. That makes a world of difference. I love how Gail puts some of these couples in their place. Some deserve it more than others.
Some student loan debt can't be dismissed in bankruptcy. Taxes won't be dismissed. You can be jailed for intentional nonpayment of taxes (after they take what you own).
Other than the one husband that verbally abused his wife this is the next worst couple on this show.

Cynthia Lennon (ne Preston) comes home and sees John and his Mistress Yoko Ono in the kitchen and the man was a mess. He was on a two day high his hair was stringy he looked like he hadn't bathed, his eyes were hardly seen, and he had a cigarette in one hand and a cup of tea in another. He was so horrible to her, and I don't think he ever apologized for what he did and Yoko sure as heck didn't.

When Gail went around the house she couldn't find a clue about where the money was going. As some mentioned in the comments, they probably spend it on drugs. Pretty sure they lost their home and car.
