I agree with your review. The G5 edges out just about everything on the Polaris except the gauge and maybe the predictability of the Polaris on edge. Man that turbo R pulls hard and runs so clean from bottom to top. And shot is sooo nice.

Great content, and I totally agree with you guys. I bought the G5 Expert Turbo, have ridden a Polaris boost (liked it a lot), and have pretty much the same observations all around. The Polaris needs a lot of throttle to get on the power, but it's great once you get there and has those legs. G5 is on the boost by 1/4 throttle and the power is shocking yet very linear. I like the G5 Turbo a bit better. Both sleds felt natural to ride for me - not all that different. For me the lack of recalls and the history of reliability of the E-tec motors is also a huge benefit for Skidoo, although that could change in any given year, along with good/bad luck of the draw. Super happy with the total G5 package and TurboR power. It really is a big improvement over G4 without changing too much. First thing I noticed was the handling - kind of crazy how much better it is than before. Love the clutching, the seat, the suspension stiffness. I did ditch the "low" Expert riser and went to the lowest riser available from OEM, about another inch lower. I'm over 6' but low is the way to go - being able to easily change out the riser is a pretty big deal. Ski-Doo adjustable clutching is also a big deal that gets taken for granted, but after my G5 got to about 50% break-in it needed the clickers to be lowered from 3 to 2 to keep it at 7900 RPM. Huge difference in power to the ground after making that slight adjustment.

Just bought a brand new Khaos 154 non turbo 107 miles on it and it won’t run. The dealer says their really busy and will get to it when they can. After the stop ride recalls on my 2020 RMK, my experience with my brand new Khaos and watching this review, I think my days of being a Polaris owner are over. I wish I could get my money back and go buy a Ski Doo. I guess there’s a reason why I can’t find a new Ski Doo at any dealers and have no problem finding any model Polaris at the dealer.

The problem with shot start is it’s $1050cad to replace the capacitor, which seem to be lasting about 3-4 seasons. I’d happily trade off the few lbs of the battery for being significantly cheaper to replace when it goes out in a similar timeframe.
this makes me happy since i snowchecked an expert for next season. I had a lot of seat time on a 9r and it was fantastic. but something about the Doo made me feel like it was a more solid quality machine.
I really feel like skidoo needs to partner with Garmin and put a Garmin interface in the dash. very similar to what Garmin is doing in the marine industry. That doesn't come without an asterisk though. Longtrack Jack has had a HELL of a time with his G5, Muskoka Freerider's clutch was making terrible noises his first day out. Chain and track tension have needed to be adjusted repeatedly, apparently fuel pumps have started going out as well as Doo having their own recommend "do not ride" until the engine re-flash is done. And that's if the ECM doesn't go out. It *almost* feels like they were rushed to market to get the sleds into dealerships. Which I can totally appreciate. But makes me wonder if a few things had been overlooked because of it? I was a massive critique of the G5 when it came out, but now it's growing on me and there's no doubt that the turbo R holds the crown for most horsepower. Doo has always had superb fit-and-finish, their engines are buttery smooth, and SHOT is an absolute game changer. The Bars: C'mon, you should have mentioned that Polaris offers three different height bars. You are not really stuck swapping bars. And if you buy new bars, they come with the grips already mounted. The 7s deserved more discussion on the group ride feature and the capabilities of tracking rides all without cell service. But no problems with the G5 being awesome.
@@kenchiison4570 It SHOULDN'T be fair lol. Turbo vs NA is never a fair comparison unless the NA motor has twice the displacement - especially with these engines where they're operating @ 7,000' or more. This *should* be a no-brainer.
Polaris's GPS is so much better. Running the BRP go app is a pain in the ass. I usually don't use it because everytime you stop you have to dig your phone out and unlock it to restart the app. I was disappointed to see they didn't fix this on the new gauge . One other thing to mention. My buddy is a master Polaris tech and they already have 6 blown up 2023 boosts sitting at his shop this year.
I’m obviously biased but, the bar riser thing is just lazy reviewing. There are popular companies that make bar risers for these handler bars. You don’t need to buy new bars, heaters, and grips. Not to mention that Polaris offers three different bar heights when snow checking your snowmobile.
The biggest problem is you still have zero room to work on the skidoo. Im assuming the oil pump and throttle cables run underneath the motor like they were in 2008. I like to be able to do a top end while the bottom end is in the sled.
I have owned every year skidoo summits from the first Rev chassis. I also have ridden every rmk every year. And I'm still all skidoo. If I wanted a polaris, I would have one. And I try not to be bias but polaris isn't better for me.
Doo seriously needs to give more options during snowcheck and what are they thinking with colors the last few years...polaris blows them out of the water for customization during snowcheck !
1:40 "slaps you in the face like a half-baked salmon" I'm still trying to wrap my head around what that means. 😄🤔Salmon do jump out of rivers and if you do happen to be in a speeding boat then you would have a salmon in your face, but then why would it be baked?
@Derek Rehm four strokes? Right? Those practically aren't even sleds. Those are snow machines in comparison. Heavy, not very snappy, and kinda boring without said turbo.
@@lawrencemacdonald9454 yeah they make sleds and I love them , but they are not anywhere near the mountain sled that skidoo or Polaris are putting out . I think they will come out with something soon to catch up but for now it’s not even in the race

Now one year after " oh this just feel so dated" like come on, you cant go from the best thing in the world, to dated since last March!
We can if something else comes out that looks better. We all agree the 7s is still functionally superior, but from a style perspective... it DOES look dated.
Skidoo is faster up the hill, plenty of videos online, Skidoo finally stepping up game, IMO Polaris went backwards with Maytrx, shocks suck. They need to get away from Walker Evans on premium models. Polaris tuning or EFI is a problem, the bog is BS on a nonturbo or turbo model for the price they are today. It shouldn't be a issue in today's day
I guess Polaris should bolt the panels down as well so they are more snug. 10 fng minutes to get the panels off???Takes me 10 seconds. Thats not a win..

@@kenchiison4570 It SHOULDN'T be fair lol. Turbo vs NA is never a fair comparison unless the NA motor has twice the displacement - especially with these engines where they're operating @ 7,000' or more. This *should* be a no-brainer.
What about the lynx shredder turbo
Good job 👍
Polaris's GPS is so much better. Running the BRP go app is a pain in the ass. I usually don't use it because everytime you stop you have to dig your phone out and unlock it to restart the app. I was disappointed to see they didn't fix this on the new gauge . One other thing to mention. My buddy is a master Polaris tech and they already have 6 blown up 2023 boosts sitting at his shop this year.
Idk if you guy’s noticed but you have a headlight out on the ski doo
That’s low beam
I’m obviously biased but, the bar riser thing is just lazy reviewing. There are popular companies that make bar risers for these handler bars. You don’t need to buy new bars, heaters, and grips. Not to mention that Polaris offers three different bar heights when snow checking your snowmobile.
This is really splitting hairs here, can’t go wrong with either!
The biggest problem is you still have zero room to work on the skidoo. Im assuming the oil pump and throttle cables run underneath the motor like they were in 2008. I like to be able to do a top end while the bottom end is in the sled.
Intro song goes hard😤
You can download your riding area on your gauge of the Ski-Doo so you don't have to worry about it losing service
1:40 "slaps you in the face like a half-baked salmon"
I'm still trying to wrap my head around what that means. 😄🤔Salmon do jump out of rivers and if you do happen to be in a speeding boat then you would have a salmon in your face, but then why would it be baked?
The 2028 Polaris RMK khaos slash adrenaline extreme will be sweet
Me-Getting excited to see a turbo shootout in the frist few words :D
Me- Realizing its mtn sleds >:(
What’s wrong with mountain sleds?
Where do you think turbos came from on sleds?
@@duckdestroyer2412 uhh, the trail segment Z1
@Derek Rehm four strokes? Right? Those practically aren't even sleds. Those are snow machines in comparison. Heavy, not very snappy, and kinda boring without said turbo.
@@duckdestroyer2412 🤣🤣🤣🤣💩
Wow Luke, I am surprised you being a polaris guy.
skidoo all the way
Say it louder so the cat guys can hear out here in the back !
I have a feeling you won’t be at the back for very long! You’ll at least be closer to the front!!!
@@pajamatime5750 fingers crossed
Cats still making sleds
@@lawrencemacdonald9454 yeah they make sleds and I love them , but they are not anywhere near the mountain sled that skidoo or Polaris are putting out . I think they will come out with something soon to catch up but for now it’s not even in the race
Jeez, I am usually not one for negative comment, but boy did Poo crap in your cornflakes? Last year there 7s display was a game changer, so innovative! Must have!!!! Now one year after " oh this just feel so dated" like come on, you cant go from the best thing in the world, to dated since last March!
We can if something else comes out that looks better. We all agree the 7s is still functionally superior, but from a style perspective... it DOES look dated.
You are probably the only ones on this planet that chooses the Freeride over the Khaos-----!!
And where is the Shredder Turbo R ;)
The Ski Doo looks like a ninja turtle
In other words the Polaris has turbo lag,
Skidoo is faster up the hill, plenty of videos online, Skidoo finally stepping up game, IMO Polaris went backwards with Maytrx, shocks suck. They need to get away from Walker Evans on premium models. Polaris tuning or EFI is a problem, the bog is BS on a nonturbo or turbo model for the price they are today. It shouldn't be a issue in today's day
Why no arctic cat in this comparison
Beeeeecause Cat doesn't have a 2-stroke turbo mountain sled 🤷♂
I guess Polaris should bolt the panels down as well so they are more snug. 10 fng minutes to get the panels off???Takes me 10 seconds. Thats not a win..
I'm from near Thief River Falls and I can't help but favor Arctic ditch pickle's, just like these Canadians seem to favor Doos, they refuse to see or admit it though
Let the comments begin!
Ski doo wins
Awwww, you wrecked it! Now nobody will watch...
👍🏻📽
New big sleds are great(expensive)and used sleds can be as reliable as bitcoin.the market needs some new math to make it more accessible to new and old riders
the skidoo gauge is not even in the same league as the polaris gauge sadly
Sorry to say you can Adjust Poo rear Shocks. You just did not Order the Right Ones. Also you forgot night ride with Doo single Headlight on low beam or Highbeam ? . Also have you thought of adjustment on the Turbo on Poo? No. Also you could have got a Black Poo finish. Maybe you guys are still one sided. Maybe you should Ride At RevelStoke and see how they Ride in that Neck on the Woods
What are you even talking about. We compared THESE sleds which are %100 comparable. That's why we did it. Adjustment of the turbo on the skidoo... what? Got the black polaris finish? What?. Maybe were still one sided, yet we picked a skidoo as a winner... WHAT? And we have both ridden in revelstoke... many times. You make no sense.
@Luke Lester you can't be surprised that there are going to be a couple of idiots that have there head so far up there @$$ that that no matter how objective a shoot out is if you didn't pick there brand they will try to come up with some reason to bitch even if it make zero sense
@@vincentpichota5496 so Right and they did not know about Poo adjusting there fuel settings? Also they did not adjust the two rear Shocks settings. Thanks
@@pavmentsurfer13 sorry you are Wrong. Did you see if you on the Right Fuel Settings? Did you say you can’t adjust the Suspension on the Poo? Well you can maybe it was Set on for a Better Rider. Did you talk about the Headlights? No you talk about how they Look. If Riding at night Two Headlights are better than Doo one headlight. Case over
WTF are you talking about?? Revelstoke is not the gold standard of snowmobiling. Way more snow in the states this year with just as technical terrain.
Seems like these don’t even know about mountain sleds when talking about bar height
I'm not one brand over the other but the g5 ski doos are straight up ugly as hell. Yeah fit and finish is gonna be better when you are using screw fasteners to hold panels in instead of quick release fastners. Also the shot system is great when it works. I have quite a few buddies that have the shot system and have had it fail.
They left out lots if indepth info. Lacking details big time to call this a shootout.
Sorry but you guys are dead wrong on handling. Skidoo is a long ways away from poo in handling.
Dude realizes that you can get polaris bars in 5/6/7 heights?
If they’re picking skidoo, it must be way ahead…….
I’ve rode both…. The g5 is night and day over a g4 💪
Not a single bow tie.
The Ski-Doo will be broken or on fire by next season, and the Polaris will still be running on essentially no maintainence 10 years from now.
Having owned a 2003 REV Summit briefly, I will NEVER own another Ski-Doo product. That sled was by and large a giant piece of garbage in every respect. It was heavy, it was tippy as hell, it was very fragile with extremely poor-quality aluminum. Total piece of junk. I'm not willing to give them a second chance.
This test is for deep snow and they dont use an Rmk pro or a Summit X lmao
It's a comparo between two rowdy sleds. Would you have preferred them riding trails to compare the two?? :ugh:
Skidoo must have ponied up more sponsorship money this year.
I hate skiddoo and especially the looks of the g5 but I believe their thoughts on these sleds. The freeride was better. Ugly as hell but they liked it better. They win
Ride one for a week and let me know if you still think that.
I am a Doo fan.But can’t go wrong with poo or Doo we are lucky to have a few great manufacturers to choose from pick your poison and remember stay on your side of the trail when riding be safe
Don't be that guy...
Nope I have both and totally agree with what they said and I’m a Polaris guy deep down.
Ski Doo Logs like a Bull Frog.. We've had Daffy Duck and now the bull frog. Can't SKIDOO come up with something cooler looking.
Same with Polaris. The New VR1 isn't that sexy...
Those skidoo lights are ugly
That is only dislike for me...hoping they either change, add a sexy cover,or offer a cover as optional!! I know they can do it...or aftermarket dressing that smoooooths out that headlight look.
@Tim Torkelson you can order a ninja turtles wrap
😂
I don't give 2 5hits about the headlight when I'm riding. I do give 2 shits about bending my Polaris tunnel with my spare gas can there. It's happened to 3 poos in our group. The gen5 is an animal this year.
Skidoo is not just a Canadian company, it's a company built by taxpayers backs.
