Polaris VR1 850 Boost is 12 pounds lighter than the Doo 850 Turbo Comp even though the Polaris has an additional 2 gallons of gas in it, and electric start! That's huge considering the gas and battery combined is well over 25 pounds.
Did he say it has Estart? My buddy bought one last year, got it home and went to pull it off the trailer only to find out at that time it was manual only. LOL.... Good times.
We found out why the Turbo skidoo is heavier than the turbo Polaris when the non turbos are the opposite. It’s because the Skidoo is a Competition package which is considerably heavier than a standard XRS due to bigger shocks, 2 ply track, extra bracing and bigger brakes. There is no directly comparable Polaris turbo and unfortunately there is no NON turbo competition package. So we have no way to directly compare a ski-doo turbo and non turbo to find out how much it actually adds to the sled.
What about true back country sleds? That I would like to know because that's where weight means so much.... On a trail I was always under the assumption weight wasn't bad because of hook. Front and rear in the like. Boondocking I think where weight matters. Float, ease of mobility for the rider, and power to weight ratio. Those 3 I think is why weight is a big deal in the back country!
I would love to see the original 2008 Ski-Doo MXZ TNT 500SS. A dry weight of 399 pounds was all the buzz at the time......Would love to see a real world weight on that one. Awesome job as always!! Keep up the great work!!

They should listen to what experienced sledders want. No wonder the Dodge Challenger, Camaro and Mustang all went back to their basic retro looks.
Agree 100% - light is right. The manufacturers might be worried that a smaller stripped down sled wouldn’t sell. But I’m with you, get back to snowmobiles roots while still using the latest technology.

My 96 skidoo F3 weighed in 636 fully filled, ready to ride . 125 hp. Corner to corner it was flat out on rails . Dropped 1 gear , reclutched . It was a trail missle
Great video...thanks for weighing them all. It seems like the twin weights have pretty much been "the same" for years which is in that 520-580lb range full of fluids ready to ride. With the longer tracks, longer paddles and taller riding positions it seems like this is about as light as they can make them and not have chassis warranty issues. They tried to go super light weight with the 03 F-7 and it ended up being much heavier by its last year of production in 2006 because they had so many chassis cracking issues. I've weighed sleds over the years and when compared with a the 1994 T-cat (620lbs ready to ride), the 2000 121" ZRT 800 (620lbs ready to ride even with an extra heat exchanger in the rear of the tunnel) and a 2001 144" 1000cc mountain cat that weighs 640 lbs with only a little gas in it...the new sleds are lighter, make good hp for twins, have a better riding position (although you can add a bar riser and tall boss seat to an old sled and it improves it greatly), have longer tracks, longer lugs and more track behind the rider so better traction from a dead stop. Mountain sleds tend to be lighter but I believe that they have production sleds about as light as they can make them and still maintain structural integrity at a price point they can sell them. Sure you can go with carbon fiber ect...but that gets very expensive very quickly. Now it'd be interesting to take an older sled like a ZRT and put a 141" procross skid under it, a boss seat ect..and weigh it. :)
It's certainly interesting, I like to see the actual riding weight of each sled. It's also nice to know, there's really not a big difference between models ! Enjoy the snow all you sledheads !
The polaris Wedge Is still by far the lightest sled with power and easier on fuel then techy new sleds. We seen this recently with Todd cycle weighting his triple triple 680 at 588lbs full tank of gas and 144 inch track. with studs. Plus they where the warmest sleds to drive hands down. No manufacture seems to do wind tunnel test anymore only computer simulations which do nothing for real world testing at minus 20. Doing 80mph creating your own Windchill's.
the big thing missing in this to be a true riding weight comparison is the actual snow buildup. you need to run them through the snow for a half-hour or so and let the snow/ice cake on in the different nooks and crannies, then weigh them. some sleds are really good at not letting snow build up on them, and others will pack in a lot of snow in the track suspensions, heat exchangers and rails. this is where the true riding weight needs to be measured.
@@snowtrax day to day in varying conditions will play a part too... might need to do several weight tests and record them over the course of the riding season with differing snow and temps and get the average snow weights. Cold, dry sledding days will be different than melting, warm days.
This isn’t a realistic option at all. EVERY ride will result in different levels of snow build up on every sled. It’s also not valid because people who ride in different places and in different conditions will get different weights. We would literally have to weight every sled after every ride while also noting every aspect of every ride. Even after all that, it STILL wouldn’t represent every rider in every condition. the ONLY fair way to weight sleds is exactly how we did it.

guys said the same about the older triples. in reality a 1998 vmax 700 is actually lighter than a 2024 mxz. low center of gravity and poor riding position is what makes them feel so heavy.
Did you notice the weight difference with the skidoo's from this weight video and the last one you put out 7 months ago? Quite the difference. The polaris weight was the same but skidoo is around 60lbs difference.
Should weigh them after a day of riding immediately when you return back to give an idea with some snowpack and ice built up. Give slight details of type of snow that was riding in, temps, etc.
The Renegade XRS 900 Ace Turbo R weighed 630 lbs? Last year you weighed the Renegade XRS 850 137 and it weighed 651 lbs. The 4-Stroke is more than 20 lighter than the 2-Stroke?
@@Eighty8Fitter it doesn’t matter when you throw in 8000 feet of elevation, the turbo always wins!!! There is no way cat is going to hang with an N/A motor.
We were ALL shocked at the weight of the S4. Obviously, that power package is HEAVY. On the trail, it doesn’t FEEL heavy, but that extra weight is definitely robbing horsepower. We d really like to see Polaris do what skidoo is doing and design a purpose built 4 stroke just for the Matrix platform that’s light and has more horsepower.
Great vid thanks. I was surprised by a few. I wonder how the size of the fuel tank makes a difference in the wet weight. I have a new Comp and a 23 Boost. Doo is really making great numbers on their 4strokes. Not a big penalty for 4stroke longevity and performance!
We are in flatland Ontario and just never get mountain sleds in our fleet because there's really nowhere to ride them to their fullest potential. Usually we do all our mountain testing in Montana or BC and don't have the scale with us.
The Polaris holds 10L more fuel than the Skidoo so there is 8lbs for sure. I would have preferred it if you weighed them all with the same amount of fuel in them.
A wet weights a wet weight. They can’t do everything. Customers have to use their brains a bit and compare capacities if it comes down to that little of a difference…. You don’t see manufacturers saying “wet weight but we hold 10 liters more fuel than the competition”.
The ski doos should be weighed with a full gas caddy on the back. I'm a doo guy true and true, but one thing i always disagreed with is them cutting the tank size back to 35 liters from 40.
It's pointless to weigh the sleds with the same amount of fuel... 5 gallon of fuel in a poo will weigh exactly the same as 5 gallon of fuel in a doo. (31 lb) You can just as well weigh them with an empty tank, and calculate from that and the actual tank volume, not just what the specs says.
Great job, it’s great to know the weights in real world use, because it makes a guy who is purchasing a sled for his size and riding style, much easier to throw around on the trails. Nobody likes a tank of a sled when running with the boys in the trails. LoL 😅
assuming this is the fleet for this coming winter... hope you'll be doing a 600 short track comparison (if it ever snows)? also, please start shaming manufacturers for not making an actual WINDSHIELD 'as std equipment' on trail sleds. enough with the factory speedometer/gauge covers already...
I am so shocked that the gen 5 850 XRS with 10 inch display , ice ripper track and smart shocks weighed in at 651 this spring when you weighed them and now the XRS 900 r with 10 inch display , ice ripper track and smart shocks and both 137 and both gen 5 chasis and the 900 r weighed in at 630 , so the 4 stroke turbo equipped thee same is 21 pounds lighter than the same sled with an 850 , I always thought 4 strokes are heavier , I guess I was wrong
Polaris VR1 turbo weighs the same as last year but the Skidoo 900r four stroke turbo is 17 lbs lighter than 850 xrs was last year? Your scales are screwy or you didn’t fill the gas tank on 900r
Not a single Yamaha, even though they are stopping production. I always hear how heavy 4 stroke yamahas are from every 2 stroke owner like their 600etec is the lightest sled known to man.
We haven't received our Yamaha sleds yet or we would've included them. Once they arrive I am positive AJ will do another weigh-in SPECIFICALLY for them.
In the spring weigh the 2023 XRS 850 with 10 inch display , smart shocks and ice ripper track weighed in at 651 the 2023 sidewinder LTX LE EPS weighed in at 667 that's only a 16 pond difference between the sidewinder and XRS 850
I would zero the scale prior to weighing the sleds with no strap tension. Then weigh all them and not zero every sled. Slight tension on scale can skew measurements 10-20 lbs easy.
I can't believe the XRS 900 R is lighter than a XRS 850 theigh weighed the first show last spring it weighed 651 so that means the 4 stroke 900 r is 21 pounds lighter than the 850

guys said the same about the older triples. in reality a 1998 vmax 700 is actually lighter than a 2024 mxz. low center of gravity and poor riding position is what makes them feel so heavy.
The 900 expedition turbo or the turbo r will kick the ass of any utility sled
The Catalyst 858 will weigh the same as the Catalyst 600...... now we are going to make everyone else look Heavy!!! Cat is I mean. Cat is an Animal!!
Funny, still no turbo
@@johnc6256won’t need a turbo if the power to weight ratio is low enough
And still be stuck in the Litter
@@Eighty8Fitter it doesn’t matter when you throw in 8000 feet of elevation, the turbo always wins!!! There is no way cat is going to hang with an N/A motor.
These are trail sleds .mountain sleds will be completely different polaris uses a different bulk head for mountain sleds
I would like to see a sidewinder/thundercat if your taking requests!
mid to high 600's...
As soon as we get our Yamaha sleds we will put em on the scale. Hoping we get a Lynx at some point too.
In the spring weigh a sidewinder Ltx le with eps weighed in at 667
Polaris has a long way to go on their four strokes. Gotta keep in mind that S4 is naturally aspirated. Ski-Doo is turbo and 35 lbs lighter
100 cc's more on the Polaris, makes for a lot of weight.
@@sb4360 1 more cylinder on the ski-doo adds a lot of weight too.
I'm surprised the assault boost is only 2lbs heavier than the Vr1 boost.
Lol, cat 600 is the lightest, AJ says, Ski Doo is doing some good stuff. Lol.
Take a deep breath, dude. I don't think he was discrediting Cat.
He was talking about the SkiDoo four stroke package when he said that.
I think the 129 vr1 boost is gunna eat up the 850 doo turbo on the trails
Great vid thanks. I was surprised by a few. I wonder how the size of the fuel tank makes a difference in the wet weight. I have a new Comp and a 23 Boost. Doo is really making great numbers on their 4strokes. Not a big penalty for 4stroke longevity and performance!
I don’t know… 60 pounds more than their 600 XRS is pretty substantial
Longer track. Full jam smart shocks and guage. 4 stroke longevity. 180hp. Not a bad trade off in my book.
Those massive shocks on the Doo is a good chunk of the increase in weight.
And the 2 ply track and the big brakes.
What about mountain sleds?
We are in flatland Ontario and just never get mountain sleds in our fleet because there's really nowhere to ride them to their fullest potential. Usually we do all our mountain testing in Montana or BC and don't have the scale with us.
When you compare weight with full gas my experience ce Polaris has up to 10 more liters which is extra 16 lbs ,Christopher ottawa
Very nice ! Great job !
You’re not gonna leave fuel out when you go for a ride. This is a real world real use weight
All you have to do is a dry weight then multiple the fuel tank capacity by the density per liter weight of fuel.
I would like to see you weigh a 1976 Yamaha Exciter and an Apex and an Attack .. Also maybe an RX-1 Ton
We will very likely weigh anything that rolls onto our lot moving forward.
Weigh a sidewinder again. I bet it’s about same as the turbo doo. Wasn’t it 17 pounds more than the 850xrs?
Great job, it’s great to know the weights in real world use, because it makes a guy who is purchasing a sled for his size and riding style, much easier to throw around on the trails. Nobody likes a tank of a sled when running with the boys in the trails. LoL 😅
Are we ever gonna see the 850 patriot in the titan?
You weighed the Titan S4, now weigh the Skidoo Expedition SE 900 or the 850. Curious am I!
Don't have one but that would be a good comparo!
Skidoo 850 turbo trail sled also may be heavier due to the 2 ply track
The competition package also has heavier shocks, extra bracing and a bigger brake. That all contributes to it weighing more than the Polaris.
assuming this is the fleet for this coming winter... hope you'll be doing a 600 short track comparison (if it ever snows)?
also, please start shaming manufacturers for not making an actual WINDSHIELD 'as std equipment' on trail sleds. enough with the factory speedometer/gauge covers already...
The only other sled I would like to see would be the Arctic Cat(Yamaha) 400 single.
Electric start on the Polaris at the end???🤔🤔
PLEASE PLEASE weigh my Yamaha RSVenture GT. Its gotta be 6 or 7 tons I'm sure.
😆
Any chance of doing the mountain sleds?
We just don't get mtn sleds on our home turf because we are in flatland Ontario.
Sidewinder? Lbs 😮
Killer keep it up
Polaris VR1 turbo weighs the same as last year but the Skidoo 900r four stroke turbo is 17 lbs lighter than 850 xrs was last year? Your scales are screwy or you didn’t fill the gas tank on 900r
Actually I stand corrected, 900r is 21 lbs lighter than last years 850 xrs. Catalyst is lightest 600 so he says. Skidootrax is back
Not a single Yamaha, even though they are stopping production. I always hear how heavy 4 stroke yamahas are from every 2 stroke owner like their 600etec is the lightest sled known to man.
They didn't have a big enough gantry and chain fall to lift a Yamaha.🤣
We haven't received our Yamaha sleds yet or we would've included them. Once they arrive I am positive AJ will do another weigh-in SPECIFICALLY for them.
In the spring weigh the 2023 XRS 850 with 10 inch display , smart shocks and ice ripper track weighed in at 651 the 2023 sidewinder LTX LE EPS weighed in at 667 that's only a 16 pond difference between the sidewinder and XRS 850
835 Pounds you are getting up there in Harley Davidson weights .
I would zero the scale prior to weighing the sleds with no strap tension. Then weigh all them and not zero every sled. Slight tension on scale can skew measurements 10-20 lbs easy.
ok
Like to see the weight of a 2024 Ski-Doo Expedition SE 900 Ace turbo R 20 inch wide 1.8 ice ripper 154 with included from factory cargo box.
I guess Poo FINALLY decided quality means more than weight😮
I thought the same thing…and am ok with it!
the difference on the turbos is in the shocks probably. Those kyb hlcr's are heavy. On my lynx shredder a set of fox floats drop 20lbs
Except the Polaris also has 20lbs of electric start that Doo doesn't
Weigh some classic stuff , like an enticer 340
Just include the mountain class, where the weight really matters!
We don't have any mountain sleds. We're in flatland country here in Ontario.
Was the catalyst a 137 or 129
Now do mountain sleds!
Ski Doo much lighter then most thought. Cat Fan Boys are disappointed in the comments all ready saying wait till next year lol 😆
matters where the weight is at. sled only gets so light, but when your CG is THAT much better, no one is disappointed.
I can't believe the XRS 900 R is lighter than a XRS 850 theigh weighed the first show last spring it weighed 651 so that means the 4 stroke 900 r is 21 pounds lighter than the 850
What is fuel capacity of a new catalyst.
37,5 L
I'm surprised the Assault was lighter than the VR1
WHERE IS THE SIDEWINDER
Wish you would have put that Enduro on scales. I have always wanted to know what the difference between a Lynx and Ski-Doo of similar spec is.
That was everything we currently have.
@@snowtrax Didn't ypu post on social media about month ago that you had an Enduro? Or have you already made the content for that and have given it back?
@@revrdr600ho We got to ride the Rave Enduro in Montana this past March, but it isn't available in NA yet. We think it might be the next sled Lynx brings over here.
@@snowtrax Understood, thanks for the explanation. I know it's not available, otherwise I would have one! I hope they bring that sled over, or else I might have see what Cat has going on with the new platform.
No weight on a Yamaha transporter lite or Arctic Cat blast 4000 lt? Wtf
Very specific sleds to be angry about leaving out. For the record we do not have either of these sleds on hand.
Weigh one of those Electric Sled's please!
If we get a Taiga, we will do this immediately. Will have to fill it up with electricity first though 😆
You guys should weigh a 2004 ski doo elite just for fun
If we had an Elite, someone would always be riding it and we'd never be able to get it on the scale! 😆
We’d have to get a new scale. I don’t think the one we have is rated for that kind of beef.
Wat too in the tank for Ski-Doo.
I have even spoke with a Ski-Doo dealer stating you can get these sleds too light and they just don’t feel planted.
Skill issue
Seems some Skidoos have 10 gallon gas tanks and can go father on 10 gallons than other brands go on 12 gallons of gas.
Could you maybe weigh the MXZ Neo Neo+ MXZ 600 Sport..or Arctic Cat Blast or Yamaha Venom
they did a mxz neo plus last year... 495lbs
We Would've included these, but we just don't have them in our fleet this season...YET.
Should of weighed the Taiga
That S4 could stand to lose a couple pounds. Shocked how much heavier it is than a 900 Turbo R with all the extra plumbing.
That S4 is not light.
