Very special to meet Lucy! Wow, great to read that she’s 48 years old! I liked seeing her pulling up grass to eat- and knowing she gets to go out and about for walks! Really nice, I haven’t been to a soon a long time - it’s so nice to see the animals from far away. Thanks Donna! 👌🐘🐘🐘❤
How wonderful to see elephants walking up close. Very peaceful scene of people watching over the elephants. Thanks for the lovely walk and I wish Lucy well.🐘💕
Lucy is quite beautiful Donna...it must have felt almost magical to be so close to her...I think it's lovely that they walk her among the patrons of the zoo...animals such an elephants need human interaction if they are along...when you look into her eye's you can see her love of the people around her...thanks for sharing this...it was lovely!
Lucy definitely has a good relationship with her caregivers, and it really is great that visitors can still see her when she goes out for walks. Thanks so much for watching, Donna!
They do the best they can. There are those who criticize the zoo for not moving her to a sanctuary with other elephants, but not being involved I can't really say whether they could or not.
Lucy is such a beautiful peaceful elephant. Though the Edmonton Valley Zoo feels that she should not be moved to a sanctuary, it seems like the life at a sanctuary would provide her with a better life. She could live a life that is more natural for elephants and she would be able to be with other elephants.
Thank you so much, Paul! Lucy unfortunately is surrounded by controversy and opinions that an elephant shouldn't be kept in such a northern location, and the facilities are lacking for stimulation. I believe they do what they can for her. Have a great week.
What a great choice of name!! 😂 It's so nice she's given the privilage of not being on display the whole time. It was lovely to watch her out for a walk ❤
The zoo knows she has options, but they refuse to let people who have experience moving elephants long distance see her and evaluate her. At 48, she is barely middle-aged for her species, where it's not unusual to thrive into their 70s and 80s. (Four Paws moved Kavaan from Pakistan to northern Thailand/Laos by air and truck, for instance, and elephants rescued from logging and trekking camps are routinely trucked hundreds of miles in Thailand, Laos and surrounding areas.) Edmonton is alien territory for an animal whose natural habitat is semi-tropical highlands where the low temperatures are in the 40s (F) and she should never have been exposed to months of snow over decades, and now is isolated from any other elephants. She needs to move to a place that will give her what she needs to not just survive but thrive in a warmer climate with others of her species around her. Keeping her in Edmonton is cruel and the zoo knows it.
Thank you for the perspectives. I definitely agree a Canadian climate is a very alien place for an elephant, and when I first moved to Edmonton it was a bit of a shock to hear that the zoo had two elephants. It also seemed odd when they moved the African one but not Lucy. Regardless of her age, she should have rights to have the social interactions that elephants normally have.
She is being used for human entertainment. All of her life. This is being displayed to visitors. Just because she isn't behind a glass box doesn't mean she is not on display. Lucy is still being exploited
Elephants do not belong in solitary confinement in Alberta. It is about as removed from her natural environment as it can get. She is a prisoner for human greed and "entertainment".
The selfish Canadian guy refused to let her to a sanctuary in India where she could be free and in nice weather. He does it for money. I hope he pays for it
This is being displayed to visiters and its a daily routine. You money hungry zoo. Lucy should be in a Sanctuary away from people with her own kind. Still using free contact so you can exploit Lucy, even after years of recommendations recommendations recommendations to use protected contact. Let Lucy go. Greedy zoo
@@DonnaTaibossigai To me this is still the same. She is being exploited and controlled. I despise this corrupt zoo for denying her Sanctuary, when they were told she could be safely moved

Thanks so much, Jennifer. They do the best they can for her and it is nice that you can still happen across her when she's out for a walk.
@ It sure is! Elephants are amazing! ❤️

I love that Lucy got to walk around the park area for a bit. So beautiful
Glad to read the zoo is taking good care of Lucy.
They do the best they can. There are those who criticize the zoo for not moving her to a sanctuary with other elephants, but not being involved I can't really say whether they could or not.
Yea, it is difficult especially if there are health issues involved.

Lol, she is very dedicated to her work.
That's probably the best part of lucy is for her being herself as an elephant
It was fascinating watching her pick up the grass with her trunk.

OMG! 48 years old Lucy! If only Lucy is human being, she would have a lot to say about life :) long live Lucy:)
She would definitely have a lot to say for sure. Thank you for watching!
Oh hello Lucy..what a dignified lady you are. Enjoy your retirement. ❤🇳🇱🙋♀🥝
Nice that Lucy can wander about so freely 😊 hope I'm still that active in a few years when I hit 48 😅
It was really neat to see her out for a walk and being able to be nearby. Lol, I am sure you'll still be active when you're 48! 46 isn't bad so far...

Lucy the Elephant at the Edmonton Valley Zoo, August 2024, about 48 years old. She looks old, but she is calm and cute (*^^*)
Thank you so much! We were lucky to see her out for a walk and the relationship she has with her caregivers.

Hello dear Donna how are you doing?
Elephant Lucy is big and beautiful.
Nice.
Thanks!
💗💗💖💖❣❣🐘🐘❣❣💖💖💗💗
So majestic ❤. Warm wishes from new friend Millionaire Paul 👋
Thank you so much 😀
I like elephant
I hope Lucy has enough space to walk around freely in the zoo and well taken care of by her keepers and not use her for human entertainment.
She's not on public display any longer at least.
She is being used for human entertainment. All of her life. This is being displayed to visitors. Just because she isn't behind a glass box doesn't mean she is not on display. Lucy is still being exploited

Or in any place around the world. Elephants are social animals.

Very true and I agree that even though she's not "on display" she is still in the public eye.
