The Real Reason People Fail The Driving Test

- In this video I am going to explain how applying a strict and rigid interpretation of the rules of the road is not always the best policy. Sometimes a bit of flexibility is required and this needs to be done in the context of judging each situation individually and on its own merits. In this video I will show you what that means and in doing so I'll be talking about driving in the rain, road positioning and also crossing the solid white line in the middle of the road.

Thanks so much!! I’m back to relearning after 4 years of not driving and you have helped so much!! It’s a bit of a simpleton question but, when you’re breaking at different speeds such as high speed, or else being stuck in traffic in town, does it matter if you’re pressing clutch first and then break? Or break first and then clutch? Thanks for the help!
It's normally brake first then clutch as this gives you more control and helps you to avoid coasting, this video will explain :

Thanks so much for all your helpful tips 😊 Dane would you have any advice as to why I keep going wide on my reverse 🙈 I can straighten up perfectly but I’m always swinging wide 🤪
In that case I'd say that you need to turn a bit more, either that or you are turning too slow. All corners are different and you may need to steer quicker on shaper corners.

No you don't, I never advised anyone that. You can wait in neutral if you are further back in the queue but wait in first if at or near the top of the queue.
thanks Dane super helpful videos. i have a question: how about overtaking a bus loading/unloading passengers. if the bus is not indicating right yet, shall i overtake if there is no cars coming from opposite lane?
You certainly could but only if safe
Literally failed my exam on the exact reason - progression on the straight. The today had a bit of light rain and got marked 5 for it. 😢

@@DaneTygheletsdrive it was marks for “progress” turning right, left and changing lanes, (slowing down to fast on approach to the junction I think, and slightly to slow building up pace after taking the turn I think) I also got a few marks on “positioning” when turning right, left and stopping also a mark for “speed” the estate was a 50 zone and I was going 40, but I was told this is slightly to fast as their was cars parked on both sides

would you be expected to overtake slow moving vehicles in your test, or only parked cars/cyclists etc?
It all depends on what you come up against but if safe and practical then you will be expected to overtake slower vehicles and parked cars etc...
@@DaneTygheletsdrive okay thanks. i just wasn’t sure but i’m not sure what to expect, i’m used to overtaking parked cars or cyclists but i’ve never overlook a slow vehicle because i’ve never had the need. i’ll see how it goes. thanks dane!
When overtaking a slow vehicle make sure you don't focus on the vehicle you are overtaking, be aware of the oncoming traffic too.

Im trying to keep 10km under whatever the speed limit is
If you do that in a test you will lose marks and potentially fail. Don't take it upon yourself to enact sweeping generalised rules because you need to judge each road individually based on the conditions you have to deal with. If I was a tester and I saw someone behaving in this way I'd fail them.

No. You're not listening to what I'm saying. As an instructor I advise and help people to judge each situation individually and stop looking for simple yes no answers. So I would encourage you to just focus on the individual road and make a judgement on speed based on how busy it is, how wide the road is and what kind of visibility you have. At the same time bear in mind the speed limit. If you do this instead of searching for some shortcut black and white answer then you will be a better driver.

Just failed and honestly don’t know where I went wrong.
There's no such thing as failure, you either succeed or you learn. Email me at danetyghe@gmail.com with your report sheet attached and let me know what you think went wrong and what the tester said to you after the test.

Had my driving test today in cork , all I can say is" corrupt " I've lived in America for 30 yrs I came home last year and only now June 1st 2023 got my driving test from a young girl 24 yrs old at most I'VE BEEN DRIVING BEFORE SHE WAS ALIVE ! CORRUPTION IS ALIVE IN CORK , I KNOW THAT FOR SURE NOW ! SHE FLAT OUT LIED ABOUT WHY I FAILED, IT JUST BOLLIX...by the way love your videos thanks but unfairly failed here in cork.
