Sophie this is AMAZING!! I’m so proud of you and especially impressed that you were able to not only catch up but to keep practicing in those times where it seemed impossible. You’re inspiring!!!
Powerful testimony to a great personal challenge! You told it honestly and believably. I love your assessment at the end of the process, of your elation and despair, your motivation levels and the shifting quality of your practice. Your advice to pick up and move on. Your mom's wisdom. This is a brilliant and tangibly human description of how your serious challenge actually went. You seized it! Thank you for sharing your valuable experience. I would have been interested to know how you organized your work each day... or perhaps that was something that evolved over time for you, depending on what you set out to work on and learn, and accomplish. Brava to you! Simon Fischer has a beautiful practice flow chart, full of balloons and arrows going everywhere, that I adapted and added to, to include those often ignored aspects of musicianship, of playfulness, improvisation and even composition. I like to impart this total approach of practice to my students. But have I taken on such a 1000 hr practice challenge for myself? Not yet!! You've inspired me!
Hi Wendy! Thank you SO much for these incredibly kind and encouraging words! I'm so happy that you enjoyed this video of my long journey. I learned so much more than I anticipated to as I practiced this 1000 hours. As for my daily organization, it definitely evolved over time. It was hard to follow through many times, is what I remember. I'm inspired by what you just mentioned of adding key aspects of musicianship, playfulness, etc. Thank you so much for these words of wisdom as well. Wishing you the best as a fellow musician and teacher!! :)
So relatable, despite me loving violin practicing next to almost nothing, I could not get consistent practice time, some days 4 hours, some 30 minutes(rare, but it happens). It wasn’t because I was busy with school, it was because I was lazy af. I will try doing this challenge as I still love playing the violin more than anything, wish me good luck!
You are absolutely stunning Sophie, I am so proud of you for this! You really did well and violin needs lots os time to master as well, loved your determination and it will surely inspire a lot! ❤
Whooo this was such an inspiring video, the feel-good vibes are through the roof and you literally make me want to pick up an instrument and just start. So motivating 🤍🤍
This is a great help to me , Sophie! Thank you for sharing! I'll aim for this when starting the Senior Cert challenge (adult student here). Your mindset sharing struck a chord with me! I'll be bearing it in mind. Every blessing to you. I'm thinking that a regular 'time habit' will help me ie at a time of day before jobs of the day crowd in (early mornings) XG Ire
Haha! I took 2 weeks break from violin in the first two weeks of 2022. I felt sooo bad. Going back was hard. Thank God am back on track. So far it's 1 year and 3 months since playing the violin. Also a mum of a 1 year old , and he distracts me in my lessons sometimes but I ve said to myself , this won't stop me
I totally get that! I also took a break at the beginning of 2022 (from this challenge haha) and am still slowly getting back into my previous rhythm. Wow, especially as a mom, props to you for making the time! Wishing you the best :)
Sophie. I'm new here and I am already in love with your content. I love the vibes of your videos. You seem like such a positive person and you radiate this through my screen as well. Can't wait to watch your other videos🥰
"2.74 Hours a day. That seems reasonable, right?" Me, never having practiced more than an hour in a day: 😳😳😳😳😳 But in all seriousness, super proud of you! Thanks for the video too; it was inspiring and gave me some ideas to think about.
Put a better fitting bridge, do the bridge fitting yourself so you can appreciate the instrument and enjoy it! Lower your practice hours increase your love for the tone! Dont be so hard on yourself. This is not an event! It is a process! WHY play at all unless you enjoy! Don't practice for others. Play for yourself! Don't catastrophise! Get some sleep. Hope this helps.😅
1000 hrs in a year sounds like a lot, but actually it is only a little bit more than 2hrs and a half and less than 3hrs a day which is actually average for any violinist. The recommended practice time for a violin student is about 4hrs per day! 🎻 so, ir is not that extraordinary like you make it sounds. Keep practicing...try to do at least 4hrs/day
Thanks for your comment! The challenge was actually more for my mental strength and consistency habits than it was about the number of hours practiced. I hope you have a great day! :)
I commend you on good practice attitude but if it'd going to give you a heart attack why bother. The object of music is to enjoy it deprive pleasure from it not sicken yourself to death over it!

If your going to do this much pressure on yourself you might as well be at Julliard!
I wish hahah!
