  • Video shows updated parts for the rear differential driveshaft flange and oil seal on affected Suzuki SX4 AWD models (RW420 production). This should resolve any future leaks.
    Link to volvosweden’s video on how to replace the rear side differential oil seal:

    Notes/Corrections:
    • 1:50: i’m pointing to the drive shaft flange that is connected to the drive shaft, the drive shaft flange in question actually sits behind this and goes into the rear side differential;

    Good information , large oil leak under my Suzuki SX 4x4 all wheel drive looks as though it's from there, also the information that this is a common fault with these vehicles - have booked it in for repair and fingers crossed

    Damn it! I have the rear diff leaking and bought (about three months ago) two of the old seals w/o the Side Lip at Mitsubishi, in Wpg.

      sorry to hear that, I would see if the dealer is willing to cut you a deal on the updated seals, and don't forget about the updated drive shaft flange, if yours isn't too rusty and smooth then I would probably leave it; if it doesn't leak in a few months then you're probably ok, thanks for watching

    Great explanation zmanvideo1, quick question; which side do you place the small lip of the seal? In the diff or out towards the axle? Many thanks!

    • @zmanvideo1
      @zmanvideo1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      small lip of the seal faces out towards the axle, the newly designed seal has an added/raised lip to keep road debris, salt etc. out, thanks for watching!

  • @CobraKyle
    @CobraKyle 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Appreciate the video. I'm about to do this repair myself. Maybe dumb question, but does the lip on the new seal face out of differential and mate against the flange, or opposite? Thanks!

    • @zmanvideo1
      @zmanvideo1  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The lip on the new seal faces outside of the differential, mates against the side differential flange (faces the CV axle shaft). Good luck with the repair, volvosweden has a repair on it and looks quite straightforward.

    Great video! I was wondering where did you bought the seal and the flange? Cant find resonable price. Either way is discontinued or over priced On ebay or suzuki part, they sell each flange for 150$ cad.

    • @zmanvideo1
      @zmanvideo1  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I purchased mine from the dealer, I think I paid around the $150 CAD mark for each flange; you can try the following websites (I have ordered from them before): amayma.com, megazip.net, SuzukiAutomotiveParts.com. Hope this helps. Thanks for the positive feedback and for watching.

    Is there also a shim that needs to be added prior to fitting the updated seal and updated flange? Did not find shim on my 2011 awd SX4 with leaking diff but drawing shows a shim p/no. 27453-63Jxx. Does this need to be added to improve contact between seal and flange? Thx for any help you can give.

    • @zoltankovacs8193
      @zoltankovacs8193 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      there is no shim either for the updated seal or flange, i think i see the shim you are talking about that is right behind the seal, i believe that is internal to the diff assembly, no shim needed to improve the contact between the seal and flange, hope this helps and thank you for watching/commenting

    • @g.mab.6717

      @@zoltankovacs8193 Thanks for replying. I was hoping the shim was internal. I have replaced the flange and seal thanks to you and volvosweden. Car back on road and no leaks yet. Seal was a very tight fit and took some work to force into place without damaging it or the difficult case. Thx again.

    • @zmanvideo1
      @zmanvideo1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      unfortunately I am not sure if they are good for the 2008 Swift, we do not have the Swift's imported to Canada, Suzuki actually pulled out out the US and Canada a handful of years ago, I would recommend you call your local Suzuki dealer and ask if the parts are compatible with your Swift model, hope this helps, and thank you for watching

    I'm thinking about buying a SX4 this year. Do you think this would be a good decision to do since they left North America?

    • @zmanvideo1
      @zmanvideo1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      sending you my previous reply in my other video:in my opinion, I would cautiously recommend picking up an sx4, my local ex-Suzuki dealer will be carrying parts for a few years, you could definitely get a good price in picking one up due to the brand being orphaned, you could also order parts internationally if needed, for that reason I would not recommend it as a primary vehicle in case the vehicle is down awaiting for parts,I should add that for a second vehicle I would recommend it, you could probably get a really good price on a good used SX4,
      thanks for watching

      lt's easy to get genuine Suzuki parts online (not international but rather local suppliers) if you just search online for "Suzuki car parts" you don't even need to go to a former dealer you can get the parts shipped directly to you and several of the online Suzuki parts supplies sell at a discount versus what you would pay at a dealer. On a side note. even though Suzuki no longer sells cars in North America, they have not "left" North America.
      Suzuki is still here, alive and well, they just refocused sales towards their motorcycle, ATV and marine business here rather than cars.
      American Suzuki Motor Corporation was replaced by "Suzuki Motor of America".
      lf you do decide to pick up a used SX4, just stay ahead of all of the maintenance and get very familiar with under the hood and under the car layout so that you can perform most of your own service and repairs because we are pretty fortunate that many basic maintenance and repairs are pretty easy to do and will save you many $$$ of having to pay someone to do the work and never knowing if the work was done right or not.
      Additionally, l would recommend you switch over all of the fluids to synthetic including motor oil, trans fluid, power steering fluid, rear diff, transfer case. A cousin of mine now has 348,000 miles on his 2007 SX4 and still runs like new. Key is regular maintenance and using the best fluids.

      you can try www.suzukiautomotiveparts.com they list both the old and new part numbers, I would recommend contacting your former Suzuki dealer and they should be able to give you a hand regarding the most up-to-date part numbers on these and other part components. I am not aware of any Canadian site that lists Suzuki part numbers. Thank you for watching.

      One of my SX4's has the same issue and some of the black LCD characters are starting to loose disappear. They are pretty crappy head units though. My CD player also jammed (6-disc) and the AM band no longer works on it either. Too many things gone bad with it at this point so l'm going to just junk it (but try to get my CD's out first) then replace it with an aftermarket NAV/DVD unit as a nice upgrade.
