Thank you , I have watched this video about 10 times in a row and believe you have to be one of the best drummers in the world. When did you sell your soul to the devil? I'm a nobody but very proud of how far you've come in your career and craft. God bless you Ray. Never stop brother. You make the world smile and awe with your music, thank you. Scotty Ward of Rockford Illinois.
I haven't been big into Korn in many years. But as a drummer, I can't even begin to imagine how much fun it is to play "Blind" every night and watch crowds just go ballistic.
What I love about Ray is that he uses pretty simple beats, fills and licks, but applies them in such a way, with finesse and speed, that they seem harder than they are.
This man is a beast.. I've known Korn from the beginning and love the way Dave played back then. But I surrender to this crazy and tight beast 🤟👍🏹 holy shitblizzard this mans a math Genius
I can’t believe I’ve known about Ray this long and had no idea he was this talented! That was the one of the most incredible modern solos I’ve seen, especially coupled with a rock medley! You sir, Are deserving of all your success.
i have a new found respect for Ray after watching this. I used to think David was the man on drums and far better than Ray but... I've never seen David put that much heart into his drumming. He just kind of did it. However, Ray seems to enjoy what he does for a living and is good at it. I highly respect Ray Luzier now. Good stuff and likeable guy.
Sadly there are still a lot out there that still think like you did (mostly die hard Korn fans who aren't musicians anyway). David was a great drummer and had an original/groovy style, however Ray is a professional in every sense of the word and has taken Korn to a level David never could have achieved and this clinic video is a perfect example of that. Glad you gave Ray a chance dude! \m/
John Crichton I've got to agree here. Going back and listening to Korn's older stuff I can't help but think how uninspired David's drumming was. I prefer Ray over David.
I wouldn't say Davids drumming was uninspired. It was VERY creative for the time. He was just uninspired when the record label started forcing to have a more "commercial" friendly sound. Can't say i blame him. Ray enjoys drumming though.
Ray is a great player and David WAS a great player. He allowed his ability to slip away when he led a life away from music and then expected Korn to take him back as if nothing had happened and as if they hadn't found a drummer who was better in Ray. David in his prime was fantastic and he brought a jazz style of playing to metal that was unique - this is shown in their first two albums especially. They went a lot more mainstream with their next few albums after that before finally returning to the original Korn sound during the last couple of albums.
this is what i love abt him, no matter if he's playing for a sold out arena or a small music store with maybe 30 ppl in it (like this video), he always puts on a show, and he's so fucking good at it too
Most of the crowd is like "yeah he's cool" Then you get that dude who's about 50 with the cap full on bobbing his head smiling at Ray! I'd be bouncing off walls to see something like this!
Whomever the sound engineer was that hooked up this setup for the video, nailed it!! Always show love to the sound people! haha Ray killed it, he's a dope ass drummer! Felt like I was there, was gettin' into it!!
Who fucking cares if Lars Ulrich is techniquely as good as Joe blow or Sam Smith .what Lars lacks is he is self taught and has learned to play with 80"s Tech. Which means rock star Tamas or export pearls no digital enhancements jamming out songs not playing with a metronome , learned deeply entrenched mistakes like not practicing with a metronome or not practicing period. Because he platued and strayed at that skill level and hot worse rather than better . .I know I can relate to learning the dums in the 80s mostly every drummer was a self taught mistake master and as long as they could pull off the set in an A room you were considered a professional and a great drummer Evolution of drumming had created drum gods we don't need to drop names do we ? By this new standard even Niel Peart sounds like the millionth best drummer I the world . Technology makes everything way more efficient from cars to drumming techniques far better pedals and hardware and more dynamic array of cymbals we didnt have in the 80"s .80"s Tech inhibited drummers from reaching full potential I believe .who still thinks buddy rich is s drum god? He's ok on comparison with the new age drummer aliens with sub human talent abilities..tell me I'm wrong ..you can't argue anything I've said .Lars is a victim of simpler times and still pulls. Off the set and he is and will always be a genius within his own rights ..I think I'd rather be an average drummer with a stupid amount of cash then a drum god that always had to blow people's minds or get taken over by some. New prodigy of the times or risk not being idolized . Not being idolized is a far easier road and still brings Lars bank acct up up and ridiculous . Who wouldn't like to be able to buy a Bentley so they could take a nap ?how many Lars haters are blue collar dudes that live pay check to pay check because they are talented drummers but pay to play still ? I'd say Lars ..you're a mother fucking genius for achieving what you've achieved 8n the music industry even a 10 times better than Lars drummer has trouble making a dollar from his craft . It makes no sense for any one to say Lars is not a genius and accepts his skill level yet manage to play in the biggest household name metal band there ever will be .hats off to Lars and his genius drumming style that pumps the heat of metallica to this very day .
I keep coming back to this video, it's just so good. I appreciate the grooviness of his playing far more than the blast beats and endless fills that are so popular right now in metal.
2.9M views and zero dislikes , that speaks volumes. We all know Ray is a bad ass on the drums , but what most people dont know is that he is one most of the down to earth and humble guy. Much respect.

This Guy is absolutely amazing ! He’s got punch, he got great feeling abd he is also fast , come on man ! In a world in where most metal drummers think that being fast is everything , Luzier shows what playing metal in drums is all about , and it’s certainly not blasbeats, triggers and speed .
Yes. Thank you. Everyone, guitarists especially think that doing something fast makes you talented or makes good music. It's neither one. At least this drummer gets it more than most.
@@nickpaternostro2611 yeah it is but this isn't a sport and that's not actually talent in playing. Drumming like that is more like playing a guitar than anything else

@@michaelpfaff7070 it was a drum clinic not a concert they were supposed to be listening not going crazy they were paying attention to his playing so they could understand what he was doing not jumping around and going insane
Truly amazing talent, there is so much going on there so many fills and adds and can only come from years of playing and performing. This puts keeping a simple beat to shame LOL.
I watch this 6-8 times a year according to TH-cam, never gets old.
Fantastic drummer. That snare sound he gets is perfect for his style.
Liam smith
Killer!!! Such a beast!
And a great guy!! Thanks for your post!!
Casey Grillo Yes I met Him at NAMM and he was a very cool gentleman
This dude can play the HELL out of this kit! My jaw is on the ground. Very very impressed.
This guy is amazing drummer he went to my school his mom was my 5grade teacher she gave us his first cd when he played with 9.0 and seen u play rostraver ice gardens with korn. Dude u kill it man perfect performance flawlessly and amazing. great video i enjoyed so much to watch and watching over and over ur parents and yough sd should be so proud of u. keep up the good work ray and if u see my comments on this ask ur mom about the student that got hit by a car in 1989 and she will tell u my name cause she was my favorite teacher that gave me drive and inspiration she aslo helped me not have fear standing in front of class giving reports i was so scared but she gave me confidence and i ended up having the best performing report in her class and she gave me an a +
Wicked reply.
May be just me. But he seems in his own universe, immersed in the music. Its not playing it, he is becoming it.
Its not just you. That is what artistry is all about my friend.
Ah yes!!! Great observation my fellow being!!! Yes indeed!!! That is what separates the "Greats" from the rest. They don't just play the instrument, no, they become immersed in it hence blending with it until one cannot separate man from music, man has become one with the music. The music is now he and he the music!!
This store has more basses on the wall than all five of my local music stores combined! .... Oh and Ray was amazing as always!
What store is this?
Looks like Guitar Center Hollywood. Sunset Boulevard
@Drone Pro According to the description above its Seminole Music, Fl in 2008.
Bro, those bass flams. This is absolutely unreal.
The dude in the hat never stopped bopping his head, respect.
That was a bad ass session . I never knew korns drummer was that good . Wow very nice
I watched this 13 years ago when it was uploaded and now again in 2024 and I have to say the fact there was a 30 second add in the middle of his solo is exactly what is wrong with TH-cam. So sad to see how everything is just about money nowadays
His timing is exactly spot on with all the song changes!!! Listen and watch close, a percussion master at work!!!! Michael...😊.
Ray used to practice in the next studio/rehearsal room to my band in L.A. (The Valley) we were in the same building but not the same league, when we took breaks at the same time and around the same table in the parking lot Ray was completely approachable and just a real nice guy...............good times
Paul McEwan name of band?
@@Dre777 Ray was practicing for Army Of Anyone. The band I was in was not great I am now the drummer for The Altamont Stones the premier Rolling Stones tribute band in England
@@paulmcewan5048 Why do you say it was not great? Congrats. What is your favorite Stones song to play on drums, currently?
@@Dre777 Hi Dre, my current fave' is "It's Only Rock And Roll" what's your's bro?
@@Dre777 Hi buddy, my current fave is Doom and Gloom
I remember that day, when I first saw this video...i was like - wtf is this guy doing? Come on...he goes insaaaaane! Iam still watching it, because I never found a drummer video with so intense feeling of music and passion for playing.
I will never forget the name "Ray Luzier"!!! Wow you totally blew me away with your unique on your wonderful craft.
Love the guy at the front left with the moustache looks so interested and really enjoying the performance unlike some of the people sitting there!
pretty sure that's a friend of mine from Cali. weird
RyaanS Music i was watching him and his wife more than the drumming tbh
i think the rest of them are all in shock!
RyaanS Music i was thinkin the same shit when i watched it, mustache is the only person appreciating this and me
his woman is even more impressed
Outstanding technique, I literally just had a good time watching him play.
Literally!?
I keep coming back to this video every few months. Ray is such a beast. Those paired down versions of the songs are perfect for him to lay it down.
I found out I've been watching this vid so many times over the last couple of years haha. It never gets old! Awesome drummer!
thanx Ray, I just quit drumming now...
Colin Campbell , right
Colin Campbell no man. The opposite! Very inspirational! This was great. Makes me wanna play.
Jealousy is a horrible thing :-(
Nothing more therapeutic.......other than cracking skulls
Pick up those fuggin sticks boyo
You can really tell when someone loves what they do it's all over his face. He's in the zone fr
💯💯💯
The power, the grooves, the tasteful fills, the kick...I've watched a lot of drum videos but DAMN!!!!
Llevo viendo este video cada cierto tiempo durante mas de 8 años jajaja . Sigue siendo el mejor !
Doesn't get much better than this guy. Total and utter awesomeness.
Never really watched Ray before, he’s outstanding and his love of playing drums really shines for everyone to see.
What I love about Ray is that he uses pretty simple beats, fills and licks, but applies them in such a way, with finesse and speed, that they seem harder than they are.
Whatever you say
Can't believe the vocals of Matchbox 20 can drum this good.
ole rt can drum
Didn't knew Rob Thomas could drum this good 😂😂🤘🏾💯✌🏽
😂😂😂
What's really funny about this comment is the drummer from Matchbox Twenty grew up 5 miles from Ray and they graduated the same year! Paul Doucette
Lol this guy thinks so lowly of some of the stuff Dave played, he even adds extra fills and does stick tricks just to make it difficult.
Dave sucked
They went a lot more mainstream with their next few albums after that before finally returning to the original Korn sound during the last couple of albums.
this is what i love abt him, no matter if he's playing for a sold out arena or a small music store with maybe 30 ppl in it (like this video), he always puts on a show, and he's so fucking good at it too
Most of the crowd is like "yeah he's cool"
Then you get that dude who's about 50 with the cap full on bobbing his head smiling at Ray! I'd be bouncing off walls to see something like this!
filip kühn hahaha
ThatCrazyHobbit Get out of my mind! I was about to say the same :D
I can watch Ray play for eternity, such style mixed with skill... gotta Love em....
The creativity and dynamics mixed with raw power is just atonishing and his timing is impeccable
Absolutely flawless.
Whomever the sound engineer was that hooked up this setup for the video, nailed it!! Always show love to the sound people! haha Ray killed it, he's a dope ass drummer! Felt like I was there, was gettin' into it!!
he has a great relationship with his drum tech, his tech built his touring rack.
Sucks but most bands have to do the sound themselves.
Fckn Casey Grillo! As video describes it, drummer himself, go listen to Kamelot 🤟🏻
Shut up Ryan
Mr lazuier goes right to work, 0 time wasted. What an iconic drummer
I keep coming back to this video, it's just so good. I appreciate the grooviness of his playing far more than the blast beats and endless fills that are so popular right now in metal.

This is SO GOOD😮! Thank you and start notifying me😊
2.9M views and zero dislikes , that speaks volumes. We all know Ray is a bad ass on the drums , but what most people dont know is that he is one most of the down to earth and humble guy.
Much respect.
It has 0 dislikes because the uploader disabled them
Спасибо огромное Автору этого ролика!!! Много раз пересматриваю и поражаюсь игрой барабанщика!
Я бы сказал это лучшее на ютубе.
Damn. The feels on each beat and fills he put is overwhelming. Awesome! Rock on! 🤘
Wow, I’ve been watching this video for almost 14 years
3:31 transition into adulthood should be smooth like that
ha, i watched it over, and this made me chuckled. if only adult hood was that easy :)
Ray is beyond the beyond, on another plain... Its amazing how much intensity he has in his playing, and how he can deliver every hit lining them up perfectly...
I don't know much about Korn but this drummer is as good as they get. Awesome going through drumming beats, drum pattern , very creative and unique. From the looks of things I need to practice much as possible. This artist is most inspirational. Def got my vote. ..
The guy has loads of feel, not just a robot turning out the standard “I’ve been to music school licks”. 👌👊
Watching him live he definitely took Korn to the next level, he is extremely gifted
It's a great performance.!!!
I became a big fan of Ray Luzier.

Seeing people actually enjoying something without phones pulled out everywhere, what a time.
Really glad this dude joined KoRn. Such a great drummer!
Really, really good mix.
Thank you very much
This Guy is absolutely amazing !
Blastbeat killed metal
Yeah, it's sad people complain about him. He's one of my favourite drummers.
It depends on what style of metal you're playing lol. Death Metal drumming is incredibly physically demanding
@@nickpaternostro2611 yeah it is but this isn't a sport and that's not actually talent in playing. Drumming like that is more like playing a guitar than anything else
He is on a level above most players especially when it comes to tempo, power, finesse, and originality. He must have great cardio as well because I didn’t even see him break a sweat! I think I’ll go lock myself up in the basement for about a year with my kit.
