  • This is the second year I'm growing squash and melons, and in this video I share my successes and what I'm doing to achieve them.
    We have swag! shop.nuweblarehomestead.com/
Nuwe Blare Homestead is a homestead in the Arizona desert. We (try to) grow our own food with our desert garden, we raise chickens and ducks for eggs, and we build the things we need. Homesteading in the harsh Arizona climate is not easy, but we are learning how to use the resources we have at hand to accomplish our goals. We're a South African-American family, so we occasionally share recipes for South African dishes.

Hopefully next year we'll have things arranged so I can grow a few things.

You can start even now. I'm about to start planting some of my fall veggies, like cabbage, broccoli, etc.

@@NuweBlareHomestead we have big projects going on at the moment, prepping a spot and delivery of a new building, then finishing it out inside. So I'm putting off planting until those things are near complete. 😊

That first squash looks like spaghetti squash, did you plant any of those? We love them and they keep for months. We grow Basil to make pesto and then use the spaghetti squash as a main meal with Basil Pesto. I need to send you some watermelon seed to try. We got it from Vietnam several years ago, and they do really well here in the Missouri summers. They produce a 8-12 lb dark green melon with thin rind, red meat and not too many seeds.

I don't think we did, actually. But we should have at least 2 types of pumpkins as well as the butternut. I want to grow basil, but I think I need to have a dedicated herb garden first. Oooo, I'd love to try those watermelons!
