I was head of A&R at Liberty/United Artists and signed MAN in 1970.Wonderful wonderful band which went through a number of personell changes but always remained great.I of course got to see them many times and on several occasions was convinced they were the best group on p lanet earth. We both shared a passion for Quicksilver Messenger Service and the works of the amazing Rick Griffin whom I had visited in his studio in California in the mid seventies.John came to Europe to tour as a member of the band and I decided that we should record for posterity.John was a lovely man and is very much missed as is Rick Griffin.Glad you enjoy the record.Love that band!
Very cool. I’ve been a Man fan since the early 70s. Wasn’t sure why this live album wasn’t released domestically. But our store sold lots of import copies. Cippolina was such a unique player ✌🏼
Great to see "Man" get a shout out. Saw them with "The Flaming Groovies" at a cold, empty and decaying Belle Vue Big Top in Manchester around '72 or was it '73. Top band.
Hi, Mazzy! Did you happen to notice if there was a healthy selection of vintage Elvis Presley albums at Amoeba Records? I have been wanting to plan a trip similar to your recent trip to L.A. and do just as you did, but mainly in search of original Elvis albums. Thanks! Love the videos! Walter
Off topic but wanted to thank you for pointing me towards The Kinks. I have no explanation why, as a 66 year old Brit with about 1,500 albums, I only knew a few big singles. I'm loving them now and picked up Face To Face today... the first of many
You have reminded me, I really want to find Seu Jorge's 'Life Aquatic' on vinyl. I saw him perform those songs in the Albert Hall about six months after we lost Bowie. Many in the audience wearing orange beanie hats. Very emotional evening and he was great. Just one guy with an acoustic guitar sitting on stage managed to make that grand venue seem so intimate. Cheers Mazzy - D
Great to see the Cure's first album. Like them, I'm from Crawley near Gatwick Airport. Would see them live in the ealy days as a 5 piece, Easy Cure. I was at school with their original guitarist Paul Thompson. He would later rejoin and do alot of the artwork for their album covers. People often major on the gothic stuff, but Robert Smith writes absolutely brilliant pop tunes. Check out the latest one. Also great to see Man featured as well. Saw them at the local college in 73. On the Be Good to Yourself tour. Aged just 14, sitting as you did then, cross legged on the floor. Nodding away, to the wonderful music. Great album. Check out the fold out gatefold cover. Thanks Mazzy
Re Man's Maximum Darkness for me one of the best live 'rock' albums. Enjoyed many political debates with Deke over the years and may i recommend his book Rhinos, Winos and Lunatics as one of the most entertaining music related autobiographies.
They bore into your brain and leave you riled up and restless. I'm a rake and scoop man, myself. But leaves are falling in the PNW and it is that season. Certain neighborhoods more than others. Green River indeed. Wonder what the leaf blower to resident ratio is in LA.
Ooh, incredible score with the Incredible String Band! That's the only one I don't have on vinyl. I see it around a fairly often, but I'm waiting for a copy in the right condition at the right price. All their other albums tend to be inexpensive, but for some reason 5000 Spirits is a lot pricier. $30 was a steal for a sealed original! Was that Dream Syndicate cover modeled after Yusef Lateef's Psychicemotus?
18:47 Give me black vinyl UNLESS it matches the aesthetics of the packaging (like this does) AND it is pressed well. 👍 I haven't picked up this recent Eels record yet but intend to...I'm necessarily behind on a few releases from this year.
I miss Aaron's , Rhino & Moby Disc & even Tower Sunset & Westwood when in Los Angeles. Like Freakbeat & Record Surplus. Amoeba has lost its charm in the new location but still has nice deep catalog titles. I'm a Yankee fan & we are getting crushed by the Dodgers ⚾️ 🧢 - True Dodger Blue .. Well , I voted 🗳 Blue 🙂.
Sad to've missed you. I just returned to LA. Viva Hate and Your Arsenal are great pick-ups. His ego and politics be damned - he's an exceptional lyricist and front-man. Glad you had a nice time. I have a rez for Musso & Frank next week - will do an extra martini in your stead. Catch ya next time!
I was a bit disappointed I thought you would be touring the record stores in Los Angeles like you did in the previous videos on your trip to LA. Enjoyed your experience!
The 5,OOO Spirits is an absolute gem! The Incredible String Band were just that.........Incredible!!! A hugely influential band, check out the Robyn Hitchcock cover version of Way Back In The1960's on his fab new album. Mike Heron & Robin Williamson take a bow.
Was the store called The Record Collector on Melrose in the West Hollywood section. The guy has a massive vinyl collection. If so, I’ve been there and I watched a video of The Waxed and two others at the store a while back. Would loved to have seen Mazzy’s comments on it.
@@mondoenterprises6710 Assuming we’re talking about the same store, that was the most unpleasant record shopping experience I’ve ever had, and I’ve been buying records since the mid-60s. The owner really doesn’t want you stepping foot in his shop unless you have a list of records you’re looking for. I’m a quiet and passive guy but this guy kept needling me the whole time, and his elderly employee followed me around the shop as though he didn’t trust me. Good grief, I was 69 years old at the time. He bragged about having another 300k albums in the back room, aside from the thousands you could see in the shop itself. Really, he only wanted collectors with a list setting foot in his shop. A guy like me who liked thumbing through racks and buying what comes to mind, I was a waste of his time, even though I was the only guy in his shop and he was standing there doing nothing when I walked in and I wasn’t the one starting the conversation. Geez, I getting riled up again…

Lovely LA series. I haven't been there since 1970, when everyone on the street was selling either weed or hashish. It was the best of times.
Glad to see you found that Incredible String Band, amazing condish. That camp album has cool looking cover, I want to hear that one. Cheers
The Robyn Hitchcock album really surprised me. I love his voice and the stories he tells. Beautifully recorded. The classical undertones ... wow!
*Alex at Record Safari is the King...don't question him! Dream Syndicate EP is top shelf.*

@@mazzysmusic Hmm, interesting.. does this mean they are effectively cut from a CD source?
@ probably but it’s still a good listen.
The Robin Hitchcock record cover is great as is his cover of Chrystal Ship. Thanks.
Hey Mazzy Nice Pick Ups!! Also Loved The Video... Just Had To Comment On The " Man" Album... I Just Love Guys That Is Just Fantastic......
Hey Mazzy. Great haul. Green River, so good. Love, Man and Deke Leonard's solo albums. Cheers
Thanks for introducing the album Em Som Maior by the Sambrasa Trio!
Good haul Mazzy. Glad you found that Incredible String Band.
Dream Syndicate ❤❤❤❤

Leaf blower sounds like an early 70’s German psych thing, I was getting into it.

Good album, very good band: Man. First heard them on a UA compilation dubble album ( when I was about 16). Now I have all their albums on cd.
Mazzy , I like you all your travelling videos it’s like if I was there myself
That’s nice to hear. 🌴
Happy to see your haul. Well done!

Thanks Richie. Wish you were with us ✌🏼
$30 for that ISB album is a good deal. I think The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter is their masterpiece, though.

The real gem, in my opinion, is The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter (their third album).
I am surprised you did not go to the crazy guy's store who is trying to sell his massive record shop now.
