Awesome video, cool to hang out virtually with fellow VCers in popular LA shops! My how times have changed, years ago when I visited the old Amoeba location for Record Stores Across America, I had to get permission to record video, they quickly scanned the store to make sure no one famous was there, and finally allowed me to record "for a limited time" while a store employee escorted me. They also asked me not to show customers, I had to turn my camera to the floor!
I was there at Capitol the day they gave John Lennon his posthumous Walk of Fame star: September 30, 1988. Yoko, too. The crowd spontaneously broke into, "Give peace a chance..."
It’s always so exciting to meet up with other collectors. I don’t even care if I buy a record, I just like to spend time talking with the people. That was a big crowd though, I am much more comfortable on one on one meet ups. Thanks for the tour
Had the pleasure of a few days in LA earlier this year and Amoeba has been a grail visit for some time - spent way to much but can’t wait to go back and visit this store and the one in San Francisco
Mazzy once again you hit this one out of the park great video love the choice of music. Great pic of all the gang even Rob looked good in those pics lol
Ahhh!!! It’s so weird to see you walking on streets I’ve walked and standing in places I’ve stood zooming in on street corners, and being in Amoeba!! it’s very surreal. If I walked in while you were filming I would have freaked
Mazzy I love your road trip videos where you meet up with members of the VC community it’s so cool seeing them and especially the record stores . Just amazing stores , I would go nuts in those stores in a good way 😊
Lovely DB accompaniment! Fun how we are 2 months apart. Me being in LA July 29-Aug.3. I'll be in London Nov. 12-15th. Same soulful reasons-ships passing. You are forever inspiring Uncle Mazzy!
Hey Mazzy it was great to meet you and go for a dig in LA. Seu Jorge was fantastic in Life Aquatic. He is a pretty big deal in Brazil, also an actor there as well he had a big role in City of God which is an amazing movie. That’s awesome they pressed outside of Brazil and you grabbed it. The track Sao Gonca was huge when I first went to Brazil in 2006. It’s short for the city Sao Goncalo which is next to where my wife grew up. It’s kind of a heavy track about growing up in poverty. He was homeless for a while and kind of reminds me of Becks story. I think you will enjoy it the whole album is great. I hope you dig that Airto/Hermeto record as well it’s one of my favorites. Thanks for the great Airto jail story and the fun time. Cheers!
Maz.... The guy with the Lightnin' Hopkins records reminded me I have a 9 CD set of all Lightnin'.... 1945-1972... All great.... Pickeed it up when Tower Records was closing here....
Can confirm, I saw Baby Lemonade with Arthur Lee's Love in LA when they did those Forever Changes shows before he passed and they slayed. They did a special presentation of the album sans strings and it was amazing to hear it that way. The shows with strings sounded great from what I heard online. Cool vid, I miss LA.
The band Baby Lemonade, who is currently playing with Johnny Echols as Love, started playing with Arthur Lee in the early 90s as Arthur Lee and Love. Johnny Echols joined them in 2003 after they had been touring with Arthur for years both before and after Lee's incarceration. They have a great live album and dvd playing Forever Changes with Arthur Lee in 2003 in London. They are fantastic, more than a tribute band. Johnny sings Signed DC as he did back in the day. You should check them out, Mazzy. They only play the west coast and the UK.
Fun video! Hey, that Woody Shaw record that one guy showed is awesome! Surprised Mazzy, you're not familiar with him. From AllMusic, "One of the most gifted and innovative jazz musicians of his generation, trumpeter Woody Shaw navigated the rapidly fluctuating jazz scene of the '70s and '80s to create a lasting body of work that extends his influence well beyond his tragic death at age 44."
You should check out the works of my old photography instructor who is also a top musician, Harry Taussig. (He went by Arthur in class). Also, two of my favorite LP's, I've Got the Music in Me from Thelma Houston (Sheffield Lab) and Tribute to Ethel Waters by Diahann Carroll (45rpm), Oh, also The Fantasy Film World Of Bernard Herrmann, but get the first print. And I liked Beaver and Krause In a Wild Sanctuary (1970), Gandharva (1971). There's a compilation album of the two also but I have the first two.
There are still 2 original Love members alive both drummers Snoopy Pfisterer who drummed on their debut and Michael Stuart-Ware who drummer on ‘Da Capo’ & ‘Forever Changes’

Thanks for taking us along. Always fun to see the other VC'ers. Waiting for the Rhino ;)
Mazzy, thanks for The Third Mind turn on. Luv this 60's Psychedelia.

Excellent Fluffy footage. Seeing the Waxed and Fluffy together in the wild is the ultimate gratification.
An Italian lunch and record shopping - another great day out Mazzy! 👍👍👍
Enjoyed the tour. I’ll have to take the West Coast trip someday.

Nice to see some of my old haunts in LA. Spent many long afternoons at the old Amoeba. They have 75% of my record collection, traded for cds.
Best 20 minutes of the weekend so far........⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you ✌🏼
Love these kinds of videos. Cheers

Mazzy, you were literally walking down Hollywood Boulevard. The kinks Song was just crying out to be used .🤔
Good video. Fluffy in the thumbnail looks like he has to use the bathroom
Really great video Mazzy! 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Thank you Sir ✌🏼
You should make a trip/video to ATL.... lots of vinyl shops. And Danny Beard is still behind the counter.
I will be returning to the ATL area in May. What stores do you or others frequent?
Awesome group to roll into Amoeba 🦠

I do know Woody Shaw. I don’t know that album.
*I love the way you teased everybody about the choices they made. Where's the king Vinyl Richie?!*
Chauncey buying albums with a topless lass is both impressive and on-brand. My dude!
How much fun!
Desperadoes under the eaves ❤
Always love seeing these and simultaneously stinks to not be a part of it!
Bummed about missing New York this time. Have fun 🤠

Almost only men in the store, women are not interested in records, but they do go to concerts.
Not a bad thing by any means, but I'm quite certain I'm going to have 'Absolute Beginners' stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
Nice one Mazzy - Absolute Beginners huh.. maybe part of you is still hanging out in London. Cheers - D
Like the vibe of the song. And we are all just beginners.
Wax's video bomb was classic 😂😂😂
Correction I think he' means Michael Jerome who plays Driums wiith Richard Thompson..
3:53 Rob The Waxed video bombing the interview. It looks like he on some kind of conveyor. 😆
What is Alex ‘s channel? I really like his picks.
