Long live the Cure! Ty for your reviews professor, was curious about this one. Smith sounds like he is in 20's still; absolutely remarkable voice and his playing only gets better decade on decade.
Waiting for my Cure copy to come in at local record store. Was waiting to read reviews about Pixies new album. After listening to your scoop Tim, I'll order it Monday. Like that you are doing new reviews! Keep it going!!!!
My black vinyl of The Cure was incredibly dirty upon opening and even after a deep cleaning it sounds horrible with surface noise and static. Bio-Vinyl sounds straight from the landfill.
Interesting to hear your take on The Stooges. Mine was delivered today and will be doing some comparisons over the next few days. I'm not the biggest fan of the Rhino Hi Fi Series but it's always been a favorite so we'll see.
The Cure had sold out in my local record shop. I have heard a few tracks streamed in HiRes and it did seem compressed. I have ordered the 2LP version from the band website.
Love the Pixies. I think they are one of the best groups of all time. I had their album Doolittle on vinyl in 1989. Wonderful album with one of my favorite songs of theirs Debaser.
Good to hear....many people are not happy with the various pressings. It does require a good cleaning, at least in my case and the mix is the mix is the mix, Mastering can only work with what they've been given. It's an amazing Album for sure...
That Cure LP was sold out everywhere I went in LA so I had to ebay buy it :( I've streamed it, liked it but don't love it... yet!! I hope it gets them touring yet again!!
I bought the last Pixies album and I have not played it again so I stayed away from the new album so far. On the fence on the Cure but a lot of people have been showing it and digging it, I just need to stream it some and see if it grabs me. Stooges, I got wonderful OGs of their albums so I’m good but I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this.
I have never had the pleasure of owning either of the first two Stooges albums on vinyl. When I saw the debut was getting the Rhino High Fidelity treatment, I went and ordered a copy Friday night. I actually owned no modern audiophile reissues, but I love watching reviews of them. Everyone loves these Rhino High Fidelity releases (well, maybe not Marquee Moon, haha), and Kevin Gray is a legend, so I just had to go for it before it sold out. Can't wait to hear what you are describing! I have always loved the album in download/stream form, haha.
@ It got here Monday, but I finally got the chance to sit down and play it today. In short, the most fun I have ever had listening to No Fun, haha. Like you mention, it's great whenever one of Ron Asheton's guitar overdubs comes screaming out of the speaker.
Great video. Absolutely love the new Pixies LP, I have three different color versions, and they all sound great. I also picked up the 2LP half speed master of The Cure's new album.... I must say I was not impressed with the sound on that. Very distorted, I compared it to the streaming Spotify version and preffered that. I may need to do a deep clean of that vinyl and try again, but honestly.... with the new Pixies album coming out a week before and that copy sounding incredible and then this, a half speed master spread over 2 LPs.... and it sounding as harsh and distorted as it does.... that's really disappointing.
I had that first stooges album and Funhouse and they were great sounding albums on the Elektra label.Unfortunately some A hole stole both of them and still not replaced them.
All I can say is that Stooges album must be a great F'n record! 😁Always enjoy it when you get really worked up Tim. I have a Sundazed pressing of that that I got a while back. I'm thinking it is very likely that Kevin did a much better job on it, but I need to get it out tomorrow and give it a listen. And yes! I also really like the Rhino Hi-Fi labels. I've bought a few of them, all great sounding, and I do like those rather unique Red/Black labels. I bet you are enjoying the living *HELL* outta that nice tube amp! 😀👍
That Pixies cover could have made my video of bad album covers. The Cure album sounds like something I would like. I bought a Stooges debut in the bargain in 71. I’m not sure I need a high fidelity version.
New Pixies is good, I agree. Yes, you are mistaken, mastered at 24-96 Mastering in Germany (Furnace is a USA company & not sure they do mastering?). No indication of where is was pressed, only 'Manufactured in Germany'.
I have ordered both the releases from Rhino hifi, still haven’t been delivered but have arrived in Oz. Rhino have announced they wont be redoing some albums as non numbered issues. But i think if something sells out real quick like Black Sabbath release they will do those as apposed to the slow burn sell outs.
@ maybe or why would they do a run of thousands when they took months to sell out or still haven’t sold out? They may all come back but it could be years. Bit like tone poets Chet Baker sings, it wasn’t even limited number and everyone was begging for it to be reissued and that took several years.
Stooges definitely sounded better with my SVS SB 1000-Pro Sub OFF. Just let the KEF R3 Meta(s) do thier job. Kevin Gray really pumps the "low end" on the Rhino High Fidelity Series.
It’s too bad these “files” that Bernie was handed is Shiite on the cure. The Jack white was the same way…Pearl Jam Dark matter another. All these new releases they must have high schoolers in their basement providing the mixes and masterings using pro tools. So disappointed. They are killing music. Dang. I will not be buying any of these except for the Stooges maybe…since it was not a modern mix tape and Kevin won’t allow crap to go out

Mine seemed to have hazing on it but must be part of the compound. I ran it through my ultrasonic and it’s quiet.
Interesting to hear your take on The Stooges. Mine was delivered today and will be doing some comparisons over the next few days. I'm not the biggest fan of the Rhino Hi Fi Series but it's always been a favorite so we'll see.
I’ll be looking forward to your take. 👍🏻

I’m overwhelmed by the album! It was a superior live performance for the new tracks. The recording is superb for me

The new Cure album is called "Songs OF A Lost World".
Thank you 🤦♂️

It grows on you, some powerful songs, mix is compressed/congested but better with volume.
@@Universityofvinyl compressed/congested.. yeah.. that's why I'm thinking that 2lp version is worth checking out...
Yeah, I'm afraid I'm not going to like it. It's not blowing me away, not even close. Wish this wasn't the case.

Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for these. Had no idea about Rhino releasing The Stooges, definitely placing an order
The Cure’s official website has a 2LP half speed master for $10 more
This is curios. The European black vinyl is Miles Showell cut, and the grey marble is BG cut. They are both pressed at Pallas.
Interesting. I have since learned that the US Grundman black cuts were pressed in Mexico.
I’m travelling at the moment, but I have the EU BG on order from an indie store. I can verify once I have it in hand. Hopefully by this weekend.

Iggy and The Stooges, Hey Detroit!

Richie - enjoyed your top USA Bands 👍🏻
@ Thanks. I always enjoy hearing your take on records in regard to the actual sound.

You're right, good catch! Thanks for the correction!

Ah fuelling FOMO

THE CURE KING OF ROCK
BEST ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD !
Great new albums.

The Cure and Pearl Jam albums sound horrible. So frustrating 😢
@ agree totally.
And the musicians being recorded have lousy hearing from decades of concerts and can't tell how awful everything sounds! My theory at least.
