Dude, I just binge watched the whole 1-5 and have to say, it is absolutely fantastic. Required viewing if you're interested in the history of graffiti, how it began and how it is constantly evolving.
Great work! This needs a DVD release.
Before watching this series I never once thought about graffiti or gave it a second look. Now I find myself checking out tags everywhere I go. This doc opened my eyes to this underground art form and culture. Respect to the filmmaker and the graf writers!
I got a drop of etch drip square into my eye. I freaked out, dropped the marker, ran a few feet, ran back to pick up the marker, and then ran to the nearest spot I could get to. I called the poison hotline, and it was either go to the E.R. or try to rinse it out with water. Water it was... I had blurry vision in that eye for about 4 days, and it stayed blood shot for over a week. Everything's good though.
Lol.. I call bullshit… etch eats through everything but hard plastic.. it can totally vaporise your lungs and blood capillaries if you even inhale it. I’ve used it and the guy that gave it to me wouldn’t stop warning me about it.. and tbh I’m glad he did.. I remember I let my mate do some tags with it and it leaked a bit and he got hectic chemical burn rash on his nuts.. left a scar a and everything..you get a drop of that on your actual eyeball like rd said your going blind… stop talking shit toy

Pretty sure the etch bath connection was mid west writers like KYT and then Year spreading it specifically to Sace. Art Basel Miami's first year was 2002, I was using etch in NYC in 99/2000 around the same time as Sace and HEK HGS. I learned about it from a mid west writer visiting NYC.
it was definitely in Chicago in 2000. I was a teenage mural painter apprentice and they warned us about buying etch cream/etch bath and vandalizing "innocent storefronts". Ironically, I had never heard of it before they mentioned it.
It was great to be apart of the NYC graff scene since early 2000s, Being a NYC writer, the Corana V was a amazing time to be an active writer and it was amazing to see so many old school dawgz come back out heavy like "DESA MTA" LES, TD, SET 36, TD, MINT, ZERS, MISTA, and the new school styles like TEXAS , GANE, DISTORT (fukz with heavy) etc. . . . , , , These are great videos to watch as i get geared up for a night out, . . . . SEKO x SIL TSV CREW . . .
They were all active up to covid...
lovvvvvvve TEXAS and GANE. what they do with rollers and extinguishers is mind-boggling.
You are really doing something for the whole community of graff. I thank you so much for this in depth look into an art form that not a lot of people know about much less respect. I hope this really takes off. Amazing documentary

Anyway great watch, just back from New York last week, sparked my graffiti passion back, was so cool srilll seeing writers I used to watch on getting up still painting. i used to break carbide knife sharpening stones diagonally; break them into a wedge shape, then rub them down flat and smooth -(almost like a chisel tip), for scratching. Or skateboard griptape wrapped around a wood dowel for window scratch tags , lol was fun
